We have stayed before and prefer Main camp. This was booked out. The cottages are still very private and well maintained. The equipment, linen and utensils are all in good condition. Unfortunately the vervet monkeys have made staying there very uncomfortable. If you leave a window open even slightly they are in, and pick up whatever food they can find....

Lovely peaceful setting. Big decking area with a braai. We stayed in the family cottage which is spacious and nice. We had ants in the kitchen area but generally clean. Just something that comes with a quiet rural retreat in a hot climate. There is nothing else here so buy food before you arrive. There is a fridge freezer. I'd...

Was a very brief overnight stay. The facilities were good as were the views of the mountains in the background. Picking up the keys after dark was not an issue and they accommodated a late check out. Definitely a much better option for couples/families. Please remember to take food if you are checking in late. There is hardly any place...

Very recommended camp at the southern entrance of the addo elephant national park. On the game drives in the area you will have a fraction of the cars near the main camp, however very good sithings of animals. The elefants are everythere, as well as big game like buffalo and eland. The camp is very quiet, very nice cottages, with...

Nice Chalets in the Bush close to the gate, quite modern. It is quiet, with a lot of privacy, with a lot of animals in the southern Addo. It was principally very vlean, but the many cockroaches in the Chalet were disturbing a bit, but on the smaller side.

It was our second stay at Matylhoweni camp which is situated in the South of the park and approx. 40 km from the main camp. Check-in is strictly after 14:00 h, however, you can take a drive through the park until your room is ready. The chalets are basic but offer everything you need - linen and towels are provided,...

The rest camp was beautifully done and the veranda was a great spot to sit and listen to the birds and to relax. However, the safari drive at the main camp was a big disappointment because no elephants were even spotted! We believe the game ranger was looking for the lions that had made a kill the night before and...

We stayed at Cabin 8 in the Matyholweni (which means “in the bush” in Xhosa) Rest Camp in October 2016. The cabin was very basic but cleaned and spacious for two people. Towels and linens were decent and comfortable for a bush camp. Bed linens and comforter were white (not the burgundy red that you see in the tripadvisor picture)....

“Stock up with your own food and drinks before heading for the Addo Elephant National Park - Matyholweni has no restaurant or shop. There is a supermarket relatively close if you have forgotten anything. Don't bother with breakfast or lunch at the restaurant at the main gate - rather have a picnic at Jack's in the middle of the park.”
