This is one of the best boutique hotels we have ever stayed in. The location in Franschhoek is perfect and just a few minutes walk to the main street. We had no hesitation walking back at night / the area is clearly upscale! Declan is an amiable host (along with his partner Paul) and along with their team, know the area inside out. Theu went all out to get us a couple of restaurant bookings as soon as we arrived - apparently many get booked in advance but I’m reasonably certain a smaller party would be accommodated on short notice without issue. The hotel itself is beautifully laid out - we had a private pool, and if we’d stayed longer, would doubtless have used the central pool. Everything is complimentary (a pleasant surprise) and we enjoyed a few drinks in the Orangery prior to dinner listening to and chatting with Nicky, the pianist. Declan also arranged a three estate wine tour with Francis on a tuk tuk (3 was a good call as the tasting measures as advised, are generous!!) - apparently there are about 54 estates in the valley area. I’d not hesitate to stay here again - Akademie represents fabulous accommodation and service quality - thank you

Hotel's Favourite
We ended our trip to South Africa by staying at the Akademie Street Boutique Hotel in Franschhoek for one night. BIG mistake!!!! We should have planned on staying for at least a week! This place was amazing! Declan and his team were super! From the moment we walked in we were awe struck by the charm of this hotel. There were 4 couples staying so we got to see 4 very different rooms-all beautifully decorated and so quaint and charming. Everything is done just right and no detail has been overlooked. Wine before dinner in front of a roaring fire, a nightcap drink and a scrumptious breakfast all offered in the beautiful Orangerie! Located in a quiet neighborhood just a short walk from Huguenot Street. You could not ask for anything better!

We couldn't be happier with our experience at Akademie - our only wish is that it were longer. Declan and team truly did an awesome job making sure we had the best stay. The staff was excellent - thorough and friendly service throughout, from a thorough property walk during check-in, to impressive attentiveness at breakfast or the pool, to Preston doing an amazing job at the nightly happy hours. The ambiance of the hotel was truly next level. The entire hotel was well appointed. Rooms were spacious and well appointed. Outdoor shared spaces were attractive and well decorated. Whether breakfast poolside or happy hour cocktails in the orange room, we couldn't help but enjoy the setting. Overall, a truly excellent stay that we wish had been longer. Thank you Declan and team for helping make the occasion special.

From the moment you enter this boutique hotel the attention to detail is superb and attentiveness of the staff make you feel immediately at home without feeling fussy. There was nothing to fault from our stay. Breakfast was amazing and likely one of the best hotel breakfasts we had ever had. Rooms felt like your own piece of paradise and the location was central but very quiet. Declan, and everyone else at the establishment made us feel like part of an extended family. We could not recommend this place any more highly.

I first stayed at Akademie St about 15 years ago and enjoyed many lovely holidays there under the hospitality of the original owners. So I was a bit skeptical when I heard the place was under new ownership and management. I was thrilled to return to an expanded and upgraded property that had maintained its original warmth and charm. If you’re looking for a quiet boutique experience walking distance to everything in Franschoek, this is the place. Highly recommend

Having heard about this boutique hotel just down the road from us in Franschoek from our architect, and then having researched it on the website, it seemed like the perfect place to celebrate our 10th anniversary. It was indeed the romantic setting we had anticipated. The staff were exceptional - friendly but professional, and every detail was spotless. Suzette simply fell in love with the style and all the small touches that make the place special. Definitely a 6 star experience! Thank you

My daughter and I stayed in this stunning property in October for 3x nights. Everything about this hotel is exceptional. Declan, Manette, Leon and all their staff are so welcoming and really went out of their way to make our stay exceptional. The breakfasts are renowned and I can see why. Don't miss the sundowners and their own brand of wines! It really is a home from home, but with added luxury. I can't recommend this hotel enough and look forward to our next visit!

We once again returned to this absolutely superb Boutique Hotel which we note has just been awarded Best Boutique Hotel in Africa. From our check in to check out we were treated royally by Declan, Manette and the Akademie St team. The room was superb, it included everything that one would need, decor was fab, pool, hot tub…what more can we say. All of the staff were so so helpful…we just felt that we were at home but being treated like royality! The beautiful breakfasts…everything on the menu was so tasty but the “specials” were just out of this world! We will definitely be back!

from the moment you walk in through the door Declan and his team welcome you into the most beautiful and comfortable hotel you may well have ever stayed in. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated and charmingly quirky. Every single thing has been thought off from the make-up remover wipes, to the electric blankets, to the generously stocked minibar. The pool is stunning, and we spent alot of time in that jacuzzi. The atmosphere in the hotel is both intimate and private - the staff appear as if from nowhere to offer you a drink or a refill, but its as if they appear by magic - they are attentive without being intrusive. They help with restaurant recommendations and bookings, and Declan is a fountain of knowledge. We stayed two nights and can't recommend it enough to anyone visiting the winelands. Simply amazing! P.s I couldn't walk away without purchasing some of their amazing scent which perfumes the hotel and has been created specially by them, for their guests!

Stellar experience at Akademie. Super friendly staff with excellent facilities. All the amenities you would want, additionally, I'd say this is probably one of the best breakfasts we have ever had in our travels. Close enough to downtown Franschoek to easily walk without being in all the traffic and crowds. Kudos to Decklan, Amy, and Charlene.
