The hotel is basically one of the better classed hotels on Sumatra. Some of the positive and negative points :
Well presented - clean and with furnishings that are up to standard. The room was spacious and had good views over the well presented gardens.
We arrived on a cool day and the restaurants and rooms were not heated, so everywhere felt a bit cool. The open foyer which leads onto the upstairs dining area was draughty and lacked 'ambience'.
The water glasses (or water) smelt very chemically. The meal itself however was good.
There was a small karaoke session going on in the downstairs restaurant which was incredibly loud and could be heard throughout the hotel.
The wifi was only available in the foyer area.
Overall, comfortable for a few nights, but let down by small issues.

We had a spacious room. It was downstairs from the reception and there was no lift but nobody automatically helped us with our luggage. The grounds are very pleasant to walk around. You can’t walk into town as there appear to be no paths. Fine to spend a night there between lake Tabo and the jungle.

I was amazed to see such a quality hotel amongst the poor surroundings of berastagi. Clean and spacious and no need for aircon at this altitude. Dinner and breakfast were ok, not great but edible. Wifi worked but a bit slow which is ok for such a remote location.

The rooms are really outdated, seems like they never renovated at all since opening. Breakfast are really terrible, very little variety and cold food. Really noisy hotel, upon my stay, there is an event at the pool with sound system which was allowed until 11pm, and the buzz of the noise can be heard clearly from the room, the guest from the event were shouting with a mic which is really disturbing. This is ridiculous and unacceptable. The staff are friendly but the management are lack of empathy and consideration towards other paying guest by allowing such event

Before I go to Medan, many friends said Brastagi Hotels are very old and don't expect any good Hotel. But this time, we decided to stay at Grand Mutiara Brastagi Hotel. Very surprised! Hotel very big! Rooms are very big too and feel comfortable. We also had our buffet dinner at Hotel. No bad.
A small garden at the backyard very nice. Flat TV screen. Free wifi at lobby. Breakfast not much choice. No air-cond inside the room but we still feel cold coz Brastagi is a cooling mountain place. Overall is Good for a short stay in Grand Mutiara Brastagi

Stayed here for a night. 3-4hours journey by car to this place from Polonia Airport. This place is a bit similar to Cameron Highland. Cool weather, farmers growing vegetables everywhere. Breakfast was so and so but can't complain much since there is not much option. Oh yes.. They didn't provide any complimentary coffee tea set so I guess you have to buy outside. They do have english tv channel, swimming pools.. Oh yes.. The bathroom was nice. Very spacey. Try to get a room not facing the main road because it is very noisy at night for those light sleepers. Service was friendly hence overall experience was pleasant.

Spacious, peaceful hotel with large rooms, and nice bathrooms. It has a huge garden with a good-sized landscaped pool, which most rooms overlook from their balconies. The hot water is only available (as mentioned in other reviews) for limited periods morning & evening, but it wasn't a problem.
The restaurant serves mainly Indonesian breakfasts which are delicious. There is a small buffet selection of toast etc.
We ate one evening in the restaurant (which is very large!), but we were impressed with the quality & quantity of the dishes. The service was courteous & friendly too. Don't be put off by the size of the restaurant.
The location is on the main road, so it's pretty easy to get to the fruit & veg market. It was misty while we stayed but the views of the volcano must be lovely when it's clear.
Found all staff to be helpful & pleasant. Wi-fi in reception only.

This is actually a very very overdue review. We stayed here for a night during our trip to Medan in 2011 as far I remember, the room was nice and clean. It is actually the best hotel so far in our trip. Worth the money and very well recommended.

Stayed one night in this resort, my review as follows:

1) Location: Near berastagi Town, Fruit market, near to Mikkie Holiday Water Theme Park, Hot Spring as well as the Golden Pagoda

2) Hotel Room: Very spacious with good comfy bed, new flat screen tv, outstanding spacious clean bathroom and bathtub.

3) Facilities: Very wide swimming pool and well maintained Garden. The karaoke room and wifi are not working entirely during our stay -(

4) Buffet Breakfast and Dinner Set: both are equally good and delicious.

Overall, good choice if you are in berastagi. very relaxing

I would have given it a 5-star rating if they had taken care of their accommodation as well as they had taken care of their gardens. The scene out of our room window was picturesque and tranquil, with their famous Mt Sibayak as a backdrop. It was really refreshing and rejuvenating walking in the gardens early in the morning.

But sadly , the room had a stench - a musky old and "wet" carpet smell. We were offered another room but it smelled just as bad.

We stayed on the first floor near the lobby and the noise from party-makers late into the night (past midnight) reverberated into our room. It was nightmarish to bear with sudden bursts of guffaw and shouting. Somehow the noise seemed amplified, like in an amphitheatre.

Also, there is NO Wi-Fi in the room!

Breakfast was very so- so.

Hotel staff helpful and nice.

Won't be back. Sorry.
