Capitan is a small mountain town near some very significant Old West history. If you come up here looking for Marriott or Holiday Inn, you'll be very disappointed. That said, the Smokey Bear Motel is typical of a small market. They enjoy surges in tourism, and the rest of the time the place is mostly idle. The room was spacious...

Older hotel but owners are making great progress with updates. Clean, large rooms, with every Convienance one could need. The hotel is close to restaurant and Smoky Bear museum. Owners are very nice and helpful! Only hotel in the area but a great place to spend one or several days as we did.

Spent the night here in between travels. Although they did not provide breakfast the rate was reasonable and there was a restaurant adjacent. The room was roomy, comfortable and well apportioned. The manager was quite knowledgeable about the area. A nice, comfortable, reasonably priced motel in Capitan

The hotel was clean, but a bit run down. The wi-fi barely worked . The bathroom was frigid. I would stay there again, but only for a night between destinations. You could hear the people in the next room, they were not loud, just watching TV.

A great little motel with a very friendly owner. Stayed for three nights while hiking in the area and were very happy with our stay. It is old and it does need a bit of work but it is very clean! We'll definitely stay here again when we come back to th area!

Spent the weekend there, it's rustic, a little run down but very clean. Prices are very reasonable. The owner's bend over backwards to accommodate. We had an issue with the TV not working due to an electrical storm and one of the owner's came and fixed it within 5 minutes of me calling the office. I have stayed here before...

Riding through capitan and stayed here. Family running motel were very friendly. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Needs some trim work and update but overall it was a good place to stay. Would stay there again if ever back on that trail.

Smokey Bear is a classic motel with old style prices. There is a rustic atmosphere compared to the newer cookie cutter motels. My impression is that most negative reviews come from people trying to sneak their dogs in without paying an extra fee. These people cheat or try to cheat the owner and are the first to complain when caught.

Old motel; needs updating. At least the room rate was commensurate with the accommodations. The wifi didn't reach my room, the bathroom fixtures were cracked and grimy. At least the restaurant next door is decent. But--all I did was sleep there. Suggest going down the road to Lincoln, where there are 2 cute, nice B&B's--the Ellis Store, and the Wortley...

Just a small little motel privately owned and operated. This motel is super clean and quiet. No frills yet it does have great internet. My room was spacious and cute with handmade heavy wood furniture. There is a restaurant next door and another down the street. Also a great grocery store in town. The room has a small fridge and...
