Matey Game Reserve has only 5 lodges which makes it an ultra exclusive experience for just a small group of people. The privacy you get and special service provided by their staff are unique. The place is exclusive yet not exaggerated, so you feel like in the wild but with all the comforts you may think of. Great location, experienced...

After being in SA for 3 weeks and doing a few other safari's we spent 3 nights here. From the beginning Christine and Stacey make you feel very welcome. The lodge is impressive and the food is fantastic considering how remote you are. The real highlight is the quality of the safari under the guide Werner and tracker Paul. These...

We had an amazing visit to Mateya. The rooms were beautifully appointed and very spacious. The service at Mateya was top notch, especially from Stacy, Connie and Phillip. Nothanda was an amazing massage therapist...5 reviewers all agree! We had fantastic meals especially the prawn salad lunch that we requested 3 days in a row! Thank you chef Cuxton for going...

We spent 5 nights at this beautiful lodge. This is our 4th safari, encompassing 10 camps, all in wonderful 5 star accommodation in SA, Zambia and Botswana and Mateya is up there with the best of them. The African art collection built up by the owner over many years is stunning. A special mention must go to our guide, Thomas,...

A small lodge, only 5 "cabins", but it is equipped to the "9's". You arrive in a gated area, and are met with warm towels to clean your face or hands. Original artwork, including full size bronzes and oil paintings are throughout the facility. The meals are fabulous and a dinner card describes what you are eating in each course....

We spent a splendid 3 days here, and can recommend it heartily. Our affable and knowledgeable guide (Daniel, with tracker Sam) gave us a marvelous experience. We saw the big 5, plus cheetah and wild dogs (!) and lots of other species (hyena, warthogs, birds galore). We also got to explore several different kinds of terrain in this area--fascinating in...

After 28 safaris over 35 years, I'm a pretty good judge of what to expect. Going to Mateya was part of my "business" as I operate a safari company as well as a Travel Management Company. Mateya is in the Madikwe area of South Africa near the Botswana border. No malaria meds required. It's like arriving at the right corner...

From our arrival at the nearby air strip everything went smoothly. We were greeted by our guide and tracker who quickly gathered our luggage and took us to the property, only a 15-20 minute drive. The food was excellent, service 5-star and the game viewing beyond my expectations. Francois, our guide, and Devine, our tracker, seemed to know exactly where...
