Going on safari was never on my “bucket list”. I simply did not “get” the allure. Despite my ambivalence, this past January (2017) I joined my extended family on a trip to South Africa culminating in a stay in the Madikwe Lelapa Lodge. Wow! What an experience!! I truly loved every minute! The Lodge management and staff, including Alan and...

The service was exceptional, and the pool overlooking The Valley with a watering hole 100 yards away brilliant. At one point I was in the pool with my kids watching eight giraffe, ten zebras, a few impalas and a couple of wildabeats all drink at various times. It was beyond special.

I would highly recommend Madikwa (and the Lelapa lodge in particular) if you want an outstanding safari experience. Not only did we see all the BIG 5, but we had great accommodations, phenomenal food and the hospitality from everyone (guides, waitstaff, Lodge management, etc) is probably the best we've ever had and we have traveled extensively. If you want to...

Wonderful place, excellent service, Big 5 and many more, great rangers, fabulous vacations! The food is good, the main area is very enjoyable, the pool area is beautiful, over looking at a pond were many animals come and drink, true enchantment.

We have just experienced the most wonderful 3 nights at Lelapa Lodge. Truly nothing could have made it better. We travelled with our 9 year old and 11 year old - our 11 year old said he'd experienced the best days of his life and would now like to grow up to be a Park Ranger! Thanks to Elaine and...

Amazing lodge for our family. We stayed at the Lelapa lodge because it was most suitable for families. The best holiday ever so it lived up to expectations. Superb game viewing with excellent rangers and a great pool back at the lodge right near a water hole for game viewing also!. Wonderful staff and great food and service and an...

We enjoyed our stay at Madikwe Safari Lodge which was the only lodge in this sector to allow kids. Our son is 9 and the staff really goes out of their way to keep them occupied when we're not on safari. We were all greeted so warmly upon arrival. The manager and staff do whatever they can to accommodate your...

We had very high expectations based on the reviews on this site and the recommendation from our travel agent. The rooms are spacious and the staff is very friendly. They really don't know how to be a "luxury" property. Our meal orders were wrong on a constant basis. Simple things like "no onions" were missed at literally every single meal....

Dear ‘traveler32678’, It was with great surprise that I read your review, as I recall your visit clearly. I spent a fair amount of time with you, and was confident that my team and I had worked hard to ensure you had a memorable experience. It was on your second night with us that you thanked me for all my...

We have been to other very luxury lodges, but this beats everything! Our friends set this up for us and we spent 3 nights at Madikwe Lodge, what an experience. The staff is absolutely amazing. We never heard the word 'No'. Every night was a different setting for dinner. Our accommodations were 5* +. They do something very special the...

We arrived late afternoon after a 2 flights from Cape Town. The staff was expecting us and made us feel like apart of their family from the moment we arrived. The bush drives were so relaxing, thrilling and educational. Our young and engaged guide, Wienand, was the best. Professional, courteous, smart and kind. He handled my mom who was celebrating...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The rich red timbres of the African earth are reflected in the warm tones of Madikwe Safari Lodge. Cradled between rolling hills, overlooking game-filled plains intersected by the Marico River and framed by the Dwarsberg Hills, just 20 suites are clustered in three intimate camps. With circular fireplaces at the heart of every suite, and big glass doors to blur the boundary between inside and out, Madikwe embodies the warm, bold heart of this spectacularly rugged corner of Africa. Spacious wooden decks embrace inviting plunge pools, and book-filled shelves in quiet corners entice and captivate, while large pizza ovens add a fun twist to meal times. ... more   less
