The setting of this establishment is great and there is lots to do and explore. The area is obviously famous for trout fishing (which you certainly can do in the many dams scattered around the property) but if you don't fish (like myself) there is more than enough other activities to keep you busy - zip-lining, rock climbing, game viewing,...

No suited for people with disabilities, The bathroom was full of crawling insects every morning. The restaurant was awful. The grab rails that is installed in the disabled bathroom at reception is installed incorrectly and making use of the facility very difficult.

A great venue with an unexpected amount of trees at a lovely setting. Stayed in the main house a little remote from the other cottages but well maintained. Only negative issue is the silence disturbing noise made by water pump unit at night.

The entire resort needs a good clean. Restaurant - clean cutlery should be handed out with every meal and not left on the table for days, rooms need to be cleaned before arrival , showers need to be cleaned and free of black mould and clean towels.

Great venue but for me in the wrong location. The roads and entrance was really bad yet there is so much space.Worst of was it is located right next to a squatter camp. Wasted a whole day driving up from Johannesburg, there are much better venues closer to Jhb,in Lanseria and Magaliesburg and Harties

Although we've only done a few day visits at Dunkeld, it was always a treat for me to visit. On my first visit we got engaged next to one of the picturesque dams and had a celebration drink at the bar. The staff are always friendly and very helpful. This weekend was fully booked so we we enjoyed a day...

Had a great w/end, stayed in Lake View house, it had 1 double bed & 2 singles. Lovely setting, nice walks, mountain bike trails and fly fishing, we could easily have been in Scotland?? Look forward to returning.

Our Woodlands unit was immediately enclosed by thick Bluegum forrest, a dam that flowed right under the patio, and a picturesque hillside framing the perfect surroundings. The property is enormous and allows for excellent fly fishing, wildlife watching, and long wonderful walks. As you enter the estate you are immediately greeted by a dense forrest that promises that something mystical...

We stayed in the two Woodlands units for the weekend... wow, what an incredible treat! The units are hidden away and private, beautifully decorated inside and so comfortable! The staff were beyond friendly and helpful, going out of their way to make our stay special. We went horse riding, half on the advanced ride with Carla, wow - the most...

Excellent - the only problem was that the DSTV Remote didn't work. We were allocated a room for children while we are a couple. When a complaint was logged, the staff attended to it immediately. William was a star.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Dunkeld Country Estate is a beautiful trout-and-game resort situated on over 1000 hectares only 3.7Kms from the popular village of Dullstroom. The area, renowned for its sub-alpine climate, high altitude and fly fishing waters, is favoured by city dwellers wanting to relax in the country and enjoy fresh air and panoramic views only 2.5 Hours from Johannesburg. The Resort consists of a central Lodge which offers 13 spacious Hotel rooms dotted around a fishing dam and near the main restaurant/ reception area. Our self-catering accommodation consists of 4 private self contained family suites and an additional 20 self-contained one bedroom chalets. Most of our rooms have an open fireplace to keep warm on those cold, and most popular, misty days. The heritage of the estate has been preserved with the conversion of the old farmhouse into a restaurant, which is more than a hundred years old. Our new reception, lounge and jazz bar was opened in August 2014 and compliments our banqueting facilities which cater to weddings, functions and conferences. We have a stone chapel, tea garden and can cater to your every need. Dunkeld is well known for its forest weddings. The resort boasts many well-stocked dams filled with Brown, Rainbow and Golden Trout, offering fly-fishing enthusiasts from novice to experienced the enjoyment of quality angling time in pursuit of that perfect catch. We are also passionate about introducing children to the art of fly fishing and one of our on-site guides holds a demo and teaching session every weekend. The estate also offers a host of family and child orientated activities. Our horse out rides are very popular as is our kiddies activity program. We are introducing new and fun activities every week. The Estate is located on the famous Panorama Route which takes visitors from Dullstroom all the way through remarkable landscapes to the Blyde River Canyon, Echo Caves and Pilgrims Rest. Dunkeld is also the perfect rest stop on the way to the Kruger National Park and the private reserves located in the Timbavati and Sabi Sands Reserves. ... more   less
