Owner was very friendly and helpful, room was basic but extremely clean, clean comfortable bed. Fridge, microwave were new country location. We will return for sure. Nothing negative only positive! Room walls appeared to be freshly painted !

We found the Algonkin through TripAdvisor. I had my doubts as we drove into the entrance but they were unfounded.

Our room (#18) cost $60!! As if that weren't amazing enough, the room (king bed) was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the tv was flat screen. The shower and bathroom were small but clean.

The owner was very, very nice.

The Algonkin was quite a find! Thank you, TripAdvisor. We would DEFINITELY stay here again.

Great people, clean, nice big TV with good cable, super hot water, "quaint" overall but the catch is there's railroad tracks about 100 yards across the street and on my night 5 trains came through. I thought it was an interesting experience, but then I got back to sleep each time no problem. Think "My Cousin Vinny". Laying in bed listening to the whistles go down the valley while there were still cars nearby was fun...for me. Light sleepers beware...all others...grab this great deal.
My room had a big "dorm" fridge, microwave and great TV. Stand up shower, small sink/vanity and small bathroom...with a view of the Susquehanna River out the back window.
I will stay here again but if NY approves gas drilling I expect this hotel will be mobbed with drill crews. This ruined The Shadowbrook in Tunkhannock PA. as well as another hotleI still use in Wellsboro PA. Great for the economy but hard on nice smaller hotels.

We stayed here overnight on our way to New Hampshire December 20, 2013. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the room was. It was very clean to start. The room had good wifi access,a microwave,a nice big refrigerator and a very big TV. The bed was very comfortable. It looked as though the room had been recently renovated. This motel is close to train tracks. Trains do go by frequently so if that bothers you, you may want consider that. We both liked that so it didn't bother us. The walls are thin and you could here next door pretty easily too. It has baseboard heat and can take a while to warm up. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to operate the heat. But I'm just not used to that type of heating system. But for the price and what you get overall it is a very worthwhile place to for an overnight stay.

This little, privately owned and operated motel is the kind we like to find. No frills to pay for that we don't want. Just an old-fashioned, park-at-the-door motel. Very clean and comfortable at a super rate, including a good discount for cash instead of credit card. If you want a comfortable stopover at a very good rate, you can't beat this.

Do not fear. This is a good motel unless you're really fussy. It's a bit of a throwback if you're over 50. Remember when you drove long-distance on vacation with your parents in a station wagon and would need a motel along the way? You rarely reserved in advance and there were relatively few chains besides Holiday Inn and Best Western. Everyone carried AE Travelers Cheques. That illuminated "Vacancy" sign from the highway let you know there was a room to be had for weary travelers. Well, this is it.

I wanted a hotel about an hour south of Utica for a particular night to avoid too much driving the next morning. Sidney/Bainbridge was exactly the spot on my route. I'd booked it over the Super 8 on the highway based on reviews and not wanting to detour all the way to Oneonta since my reason was to save time the next morning.

I arrived at 10:30pm, as planned. You call a number from the office and the owner/family/staff "come down" and check you in. They actually live there--great safety feature for a female traveling alone. My room was clean and very comfortable, if spare and exactly as advertised. Great value too. It did not smell musty. Bath amenities and towels were nice quality. It had a microwave and refrigerator and flat-screen TV, but sadly no coffee maker or even a glass or ceramic coffee mug to heat water (I'd brought a tea bag...), sigh. I'm quite sure they'd have accommodated a request, but I wasn't going to ask at 10:45pm.

I will confirm some other reviews: it does seem to cater to people who work on the road and get up early. I suspect some are regulars M-Thurs. There appeared to be a communal space with a gas grill outside (great for group travelers or work teams). I did hear the person in the room above me--not loud or annoying, but it might be for someone not used to apartment living. A freight train came by at 6:30am (I'd gotten up at 6, so no big deal). There are no late night dining options, but there are some gas station/markets to procure something if you need and didn't bring.

Early the next morning I awoke to some bird song. The Susquehanna River is literally just behind the motel (well down hill--no flood worries and the river was in flood-emergency when I was there). The delightful surprise was the cute coffee and breakfast/lunch options in Bainbridge, which I definitely recommend. If you're early enough in the evening, there are plenty of dinner options.

Because of the proximity to parks and natural areas, this would be a fantastic vacation motel for several days or even a week on a limited budget.

Suggestions for improvement: coffee mugs and coffee maker in the room and a black-out curtain for the front window. I turned out the porch light in front of my door, but the light from the neighboring door was on all night and illuminated my room from the gaps in the shade. I forgot an eye mask, not that it should be needed.

Our bed was dirty. It had dog hair, and pee stains. House keeper was rude when I asked for clean sheets. The man started yanking the dirty sheets off the bed. We had 2 little kids in room and he was acting like a jerking. $72 a night, I would expect clean sheets.

The price was good. On the website it says recently renovated. Not sure what they mean by that, maybe new carpeting, but nothing else. The beds were awful, you could tell that they had been laid in many times. You either leaned one way or sunk in a hole. The pillows weren't much better. They had to be the flattest ones I've ever slept on. My daughter actually threw hers on the floor because she could not sleep. The MAJOR thing that they do not tell you is that there is a train that runs all night right across the street from the hotel and it blows its horn right in front of the place every time it goes by. This choice was a big mistake,. I think this is why they have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Actually, one more thing, the people that run the place live right next door and rather than staying in the office and doing there jobs, they go back home, so whenever someone comes to check in you ring this bell and it makes this obnoxious noise, not once, but twice so they can hear it in there house. Trying to go to sleep with all that noise was just unbelievable.

We arrived on a busy Friday afternoon to the Algonkin Motel...the manager who helped me was great in providing the room I had requested. During our stay there had been a problem with the drinking water so she brought around some bottles of water for us and offered to get some ice from the "main house, their home" if we wanted some...pleasant people to chat with--down to earth. Would stay there again if needed to. Prices for the rooms are great.

If you are staying in the Bainbridge or Sidney area, this is the spot for you! Don't bother staying all the way in Oneonta. For $60/night, if you are looking for a clean room to spend the night, a room here is a steal! The bathroom was simple and clean - no tub, but a nice little shower. The bedroom was clean and there is a flat-screen TV, microwave and mini fridge - all appear to be newer. I say that this hotel is not good for business because it is a motel - I don't believe there is a business center. But otherwise, this place is great! We will be back for the Labor Day weekend!
