Beautiful well maintained property overlooking Otsego Lake. Great location just outside of town. It’s a few miles and very easy to make the trip in. The downtown shuttle stop is in the way if you don’t want to pay to park.

We used the canoes, kayaks and private “land dock.” There is a stretch of land that juts into the Lake to relax on. Very nice way to spend a relaxing morning. The lake temp was around 70 in July so nice and refreshing.

The breakfast service was superb and the staff was excellent. They had different meals each day we stayed there and fresh fruit everyday. The French Toast was outstanding. The owners brother owns a artisan bread company which is served fresh as can be. The view from the breakfast area is outstanding and open at night to enjoy. Makes it all taste that much better!

This is the second time we’ve stayed here (Garden Suite - great for family of 4) and we’ll be back. After this visit the property will be our go-to for Cooperstown. Stay and enjoy the friendly and relaxing atmosphere!

We had the most wonderful stay at Cobblescote! This lovely family owned property reminded us of summer camp. It's so rare to find a true bnb these days so this was such a treat! We loved our view of the lake and the delicious breakfast each morning. Despite being outside of Cooperstown downtown, you are extremely close to the downtown area. We didn't get a chance to kayak or use the grill due to rain, but what an amazing amenity to offer guests. Our room was extremely clean and well stocked, plenty of hot water and fresh towels and quiet! This was the best escape out of NYC and we came back feeling relaxed. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We just got back yesterday and I have to say if you give something a chance, you never know! We never did a a B & B and we have two little ones. The family that runs this wonderful place was fantastic!!!! At first we were concerned if our kids would have enough to do and the staff chatted with us snd assured all would be good and sure enough, it was GREAT. Breakfast was super. Loved talking with everyone. Again, the staff is the best. They even let us borrow two beach chairs (which we returned) after check out to use at Glimmerglass National Park. They made great recommendations and the kids did not want to leave. Thank you Cobblescote!! The kids woke up today at our home and said they missed Genevieve and company. Oh the Deck Suite was the best!!!!

Not what we expected. Upon walking in we were bombarded with a strong smell of “weed”. The main building is old, dark and dingy. Thankfully there were no bed bugs but there were cobwebs, dust and dirt around windows, baseboards and corners of the room. There are limited outlets for charging phones. The add on area with beds had none. The mattresses are thin and squeaky. The bathroom did not have shampoo or conditioner but did have a bar of soap although none of us showered because it was too gross and we were only staying one night. The towels were mismatched, faded and did not look the cleanest. We walked down to the lake-property had lake view but you need to cross the highway and go down steep stairs for access. The kayaks and life vests were filthy and not usable. The view was very nice as we sat on the porch in the evening. The breakfast was good and the women serving/cooking were very nice. I would definitely not go back as this place is very misleading! Our review on another site was not published and only showed the rating 6/10 which was us being generous which leads me to believe they only publish the positive ones. The place has a lot of potential if they update the floors, bathrooms, mattresses and bedding/linens/towels otherwise stay away! For the price per night stay elsewhere.

It is unfortunate that you have felt the need to post such a review; yet none of these concerns/complaints were raised while you were on the property so they could be properly addressed. As the name on this review doesn't match the name the reservation was booked under I will do my best to address some of the concerns listed. New York State has legalized the use of Marijuana. While we expect that our guests will respect that there is a wide demographic that we serve, families included, we can not prevent travelers from bringing it to the property. ALL of our rooms and buildings are NON-SMOKING. Our Main Lodge is "old", built in the early 1900s as our website states, hardly misleading. The property has been renovated and remodeled in a way to keep the integrity and history of the home while updating to the 21st century. We have decorated with Adirondack style décor that just isn't for everyone, again that is on our website. Each of our rooms have queen pillow top mattresses. The Private Cobblescote Beach property equipped with free kayak and canoe use is across from us on the Lake side as shown on our website. As far as another "unpublished review" ... there isn't one. We have nothing to hide and welcome all critiques and suggestions to better improve guest stays at Cobblescote on the Lake.

I feel it is necessary to provide a strong “BEWARE” to Travelers who might be considering a stay @ The Cobblescote Inn, Cooperstown, NY.

There is no intent here to negatively impact a small, family run business but providing our experience related to their Cancellation Policy is truly one to learn from.

Before booking your stay, please read the fine print on their policy.

There ARE NO circumstances where your paid up front money will be refunded, OR even a portion of your money will be returned to you; taxes included!

We had a death in the family of my sister-in-law which occurred the week/weekend we were scheduled to visit.

Genevieve was sympathetic BUT also very emphatic SHE COULD NOT reschedule us (which we requested for just a week or two later) OR refund any part of our fully paid stay! It was a total of $880! A very big hit for a couple living on a Social Security income.

It’s pretty extraordinary & shocking from a consumer’s perspective. Genevieve’s reasoning was “they are a small business & can’t operate like the larger hotels/motels in the Hospitality Industry.”

My husband & I learned a strong lesson from this & felt it necessary to advise others of our unfortunate experience.

We at Cobblescote are again very sorry for your loss. Our policy is clearly posted on our website and is reviewed during any phone conversations. We allow for refunds when reservations are cancelled within the allotted time frames and rooms are rebooked. We recognize that this policy does not encompass last minute life disruptions which is why trip insurance is always recommended

Everything was absolutely lovely. However, we stayed in the garden suite and did not realize was below another suite. The buildings are old and soundproofing is very scant. We heard every footstep above us and at the moment am listening to loud music from above at 10PM. There are many room options to choose from and if you are sensitive to noise you should perhaps choose another.

That being said, the suite was lovely overlooking the lake. It was immaculate and every precaution against COVID is taken. The morning breakfasts were home cooked goodness.

We plan to visit again next summer...In the suite above us. 😂

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Genevieve and Cobblescote! The warmth you’re greeted with makes it feel like you’re catching up with an old friend. The view is spectacular! Make sure to make time to just soak in the tranquility and if you’re an early riser the sun rise is a must see. Seven stars out of five!

We enjoyed our stay here. The view was beautiful, we were in the garden suite which was a small apartment. It was not modern but it was well equipped and very comfortable. The family of the owners were making breakfast and taking care of things. They were very nice and did a great job.

This is our first time staying at Cobblescote on the Lake. We totally enjoyed our stay here. Staff was friendly and hospitality was the best. Enjoyed a nice home cooked breakfast on the enclosed porch. Sits on a hill over looking Ostego Lake and was such a beautiful view of the lake and the fall colored leaves on the trees. Rooms were very nice and very clean. Very comfortable bed. This is a family run motel and they go out of there way to make your stay a great experience. Lots of local attractions to visit. Baseball Hall of Fame, Farmers Museum, Fly Creek Cider Mill just to mention a few places. Great area Restaurants. Mel's at 22, Nicolettas Italian Cafe, Doubleday Cafe just to mention a few. Looking forward to staying here again next year.

Get Mary to tell you the story of her grandfather building this place ca. 1913. We weren't sure what to expect and were delighted with the experience. Excellent location not far from Glimmerglass Opera. The lakeside facilities were convenient and delightful (beach, kayaks etc). Tasty breakfast each morning and lovely views across Lake Otsego.

Is there a beach or good swimming spot within walking distance from the property?
Answer from schpidah
brooklyn29 contributions41 helpful votes
There's a good swimming spot at the bottom of the hill from the inn - not really a beach because it's pretty rocky, but my family swam there each day - the water is lovely! There's a small grassy peninsula area where they have beach lounge chairs where you can lie out as well. It's about a 2 minute walk down the hill and down a set of stairs to the swimming/boating area.
