The Red Carpet Inn is a no frills property located a few miles outside of downtown Cooperstown. The hotels in the Cooperstown area are very expensive and this was one of the lower priced options. My room was clean and comfortable enough but the hotel had no amenities to justify a $200 per night charge. The check in staff was poorly trained and the office was left unattended at times. The continental breakfast was very minimal. That said, my stay was uneventful but I didn't get much bang for my buck.

Stayed at this motel for 2 nights because the Holiday Inn Express had no rooms available. The lady at the front desk was less than friendly. The room was decent-sized and clean. The housekeeper did an acceptable job. There is no pool, game room, or any other on site diversion for kids. The room was quiet, and the a/c cooled the room effectively. I would stay there again, but it would not be my first choice in Cooperstown.

Great place, close to downtown. Quiet, comfortable, and clean. If you are just looking for a place to sleep then this is the place to stay. Refrigerator and microwave in room. Plenty of towels and soap and shampoo.

Me and my two daughters went into our room and immediately felt dirty. The smell in the room was terrible and the bed had two bugs on it. Charging $170 a night! We went back to the office and I told the person at the desk I wanted to cancel my stay. He was not accommodating at all. He called the manager and the manager said the cancellation fee is a one night stay. We literally walked in... this was not a reservation made weeks or months prior. We were there for a total of 10min and our luggage was still in the car. There is no continental breakfast except for pre packaged muffins. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We booked this location because it was rated by AAA and was convenient to Cooperstown. We should have slept in the car because it would have been cleaner and the staff less abusive. We did not inspect the room upon arrival because given the track record of AAA reviewed places we assumed a certain level of quality. However, when we went to shower the following morning we discovered used towels hanging on the hook behind the door, a filthy tub including brown/black residue on the bottom and a streak of shampoo on the wall and a soap wrapper behind the door.

Friends of mine who stayed in the adjoining room also reported poor shower cleanliness and apparently a dirty toilet as well.

Upon checkout I brought these details to the attention of the clerk who assumed a combative tone and stated because we did not notify him he was not given the opportunity to correct it. I stated we did not discover the issue until just before checkout but again he essentially told us it was our fault since we did not notify him. It wasn't the hotels' fault because they failed to clean but it was instead the customer's fault. Hmmm.

I attempted to give the clerk a final opportunity to make amends and he became visibly angry. Thinking at this point discretion is the better part of valor I decided to just pay for the room and leave.

My wife and I (and my friends) emphatically DO NOT recommend staying at this hotel, at the very least because hotel staff was rude and decidely un-accomodating. Stay there at your own peril!

My sons and I stayed at the Red Carpet Inn expecting to find the motel acceptable based on AAA's rating. It took 10 minutes to check in ( I was the only one in the office) which should have sent up a red flag immediately. The clerk seemed to be "bothered" by my presence.
Upon entering the room everything looked fine. We settled in and one of my sons used the bathroom and upon flushing discovered the water in the bowl filled to the top. It did not run over, yet. The water slowly subsided but about 15 minutes later my son hears water running. Upon entering the bathroom the toilet had overflowed because the water in the tank was running. I turned the water off at the stopcock and proceeded to "mop" up the mess. I called the office and no one answered. We shortly departed to go downtown and I stopped in at the office to report the problem. The clerk, a different one than when I checked in, acknowledged the complaint. When we returned from downtown we went straight to bed. The next morning we noticed that there had been no change in the condition of the toilet. Upon checkout I mentioned it to the clerk again and all he said was that no one told him.
My advice is not to stay at this place. It seems that the customers are a bother to the staff.

We stayed 1 night 6/28/09, choosing the hotel through priceline[--]. The room had 2 double beds, a dorm frig, coffee maker, microwave and wifi. For the price, a little over $100, It seemed adequate for our brief stay. The next morning, my husband mentioned that his back felt itchy. Not suspecting anything unusual, we checked out early the next morning. After visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame, we drove home to NH, arriving early in the evening. My husband removed his shirt and there was a trail of red welts in several places. Suspecting bedbugs, I researched the internet, photographed the chain of welts and called the Manager the next morning advising him of the situation. He was rather confrontational on the phone. The manager did check the room, but was unable to verify any bugs. I emailed my photos and he responded back threatening to turn this over to his attorney if I wrote a review or posted the photos. This is no scam or ploy to get a refund. We were appalled by the bites and pursuant poor customer relations. Travelers - BEWARE.

Response from RedCarpetCooperstown, Manager at Leatherstocking Lodge
Responded 24 Jul 2009
The guest did not indicate anything wrong with the room upon check-out. Called later in the afternoon to tell us he had developed bug bites. The photo sent to us showed bites inconsistant with bed bugs. Bug bites show up immediately, not hours later. After a complete inspection of the room, no bugs of any kind were found. We have had no complaints about bugs in the room before their stay of after. Guest threaten to post this review if we did not refund their room completely. We do not give in to blackmail.

My sister and I took a trip all over New York and one of our stops lead us to the Red Carpet Inn. The motel is quaint, very quiet and just a treasure! The bed was comfortable, we enjoyed having a refrigerator in our room and the staff were very friendly and professional. We were pleasantly surprised with the motel.

Compared to the Chestnut Street Apartments, this place is a palace. However, this is no palace.

The room rates were average for Cooperstown. It was close to restaurants, a gas station, a shopping center with a grocery store, and most importantly, about a mile to Dreams Park. It was even a straight shot to the Cooperstown shuttle or the town itself.

The room itself was small, the beds very low to the ground and the mattresses were hard, rutted and uncomfortable. The sheets were clean but all had stains from years of use. The same for the bedding. The fitted sheet was also uncomfortable, almost sandpaper-like. The hot water was either non-existent or scalding.

The cleaning staff were nice but did not speak English or even limited Spanish. When I asked for more towels, they had no idea. We left a note to have the tub unclogged; the note was taken but nothing was done. I told the office and they did get the tub draining again.

The biggest problem was the dampness of the room. The room smelled moldy and the air coming out of the HVAC smelled the same. The carpet felt wet to walk on. The bedding remained damp. It went from tolerable to annoying to unbearable. The office promised to change the filter but it didn't help. We checked out a day early and left for home so we wouldn't have to spend another night sleeping in dampness. All of our clothes, even the clean ones we didn't wear, smelled musty and had be washed when we got home.

The place is quiet, has a great location and some potential. With a little effort it could be recommended but not now.

The room was adequate with dated furnishings but enough amenities to make our three day stay tolerable. I liked the big screen TV and my wife disliked the cramped bathroom sink area. The fridge allowed us to keep milk and eat cereal for breakfast at the small table provided. Parking right at your room is a plus. The location close to the Dreams park was great. Also it's just a short drive to where you can catch the trolley into town. The continental breakfast is just coffee and mini-muffins. One morning they were out of coffee and I had to drive to the nearby McDonald's for my caffeine fix. Because its located on a highway with narrow shoulders a walk/jog can be a bit dangerous. When compared to what you'd spend at some of the other area motels it's not a bad deal. One more thing, bring pillows.
