Detailed Reviews
Location, location...well, you get it. Built in the 1800's so the floors are a bit uneven and the aroma of all things ancient abound. If you want unique and quaint this is the place. Pick up the phone in the lobby, push the manager button and Tom will pick up. He'll give you a brief tour and some history as well as your room key. If baseball is your thing the Hall of Fame is a 2 minute walk away. Restaurants are close by.
The room had a very comfortable bed and all the expected amenities, including a small fridge. If you're on the ground floor you may hear some creaking floors from above. Sounds of history. Two centuries worth.

My husband and I stayed at the Tunnicliff on our recent trip to Cooperstown. Let me say, the breakfast was the deciding factor for my husband but the old building was my choice as I love architecture. That being said, check in is at 4pm but if you arrive early and space is available, they will let you park in the back. We listened to the manager explain all the details of breakfast, our room, the steam coil heaters and the air conditioning as well as the ceiling fans. The climb up the two flights of steps was interesting. Every part of the Inn is clean and orderly from the top floor all the way down to the bottom. IF you have any kind of problems with steps, there are two rooms on the "ground" floor but you will still have to climb up a few steps be they at the front door or the back as well as the step or two between the small lounge to the front desk.
I saw a review claiming there was a ghost in room 206, but it never bothered us. We didn't experience water turning on or anyone in the hall. We could, however, hear one of the other guests in their room talking around 10pm. Keep that in mind if you don't want to be heard as the walls are somewhat thin.
This is the perfect place to stay if you want to be close to the HOF, stores, lake or restaurants. Well worth the price.
**NOTE** we stayed during the "pandemic" and had a modified experience with breakfast but found all the servers to be very kind and helpful as well as efficient.

We were in town for a getaway weekend and to visit the Hall of Fame a d wanted to stay somewhere close. As a was making our plans I came across this historic hotel which is more like a bed and breakfast in my opinion. It's an old building from the 1800's so it has character and charm. Yes the floors creak and may have some uneven spots but it's part of its charm. We arrived on a Friday night and checked in to a happy gentleman that explained everything to us as far as our room, parking, breakfast etc. We got to our room to find a huge king bed which was very comfortable. Our room had furniture that reminded us of a past era in its design, but the room was very quaint. For breakfast each morning we had a cooked to order breakfast which was choose off a printed order sheet, eggs, bacon, toast with butter, home fries, muffins, coffee and juice were my selections each morning. Breakfast was hot and tasty and in front of us in about 5 minutes, very quick. If you're looking for a place that's close to everything in town this is it. We loved it, walking distance to everything we wanted to see and do. All in all we loved this place and would gladly stay here again. A nice place with character plus friendly service, clean and comfortable, a real gem in our book.

Weird old hotel-that-time-forgot. General feeling of decay, and things falling apart: peeling paint, cheap ugly slipcovers on all the furniture, etc. Great location, though. The place would be kind of a hoot if it weren’t outrageously overpriced (high season?) and if it weren’t for the studied rudeness of the gentleman who seems to be their only employee. He does all he can to make you feel that you are not welcome, and that you are bothering him by asking basic questions.

Where should I start? How about parking. What a joke. This Inn has no free parking matter of fact it has no parking at all. The only parking available was 5 blocks away. Bring your own refreshments with you this place has nothing no soda machine or coffee maker. They advertise cable TV and WI-Fi which is true to a point. The WI-Fi was weak at best and the cable was limited to four stations all news based. So if you want to waste a couple hundred dollars for sub par accommodations this is the place.

First, the building is very old. Built in 1802, and probably hasn't been refurbished since then. (I can't remember the last time I saw a radiator used for heat!) The floor sloped downward toward the door, so that at times I thought i was going to tip over. Years ago I would have considered it all very charming, but as I get older the charm wears off.
Biggest issue - no breakfast. The listing calls out free breakfast. I was told rather emphatically, as if I were mentally deficient, that the restaurant opened at 12:00 noon for lunch and dinner. Trip Adviser should fix that in the listing.
On the plus side, the location is great. You can walk to everything in town. And very quiet. But I think on my next trip to Cooperstown I'll try someplace else.

Stay away is correct. I love antique homes but this place has zero charm and just feels dirty. Really disgusting. We paid for 2 nights, took one look at it and stayed elsewhere. I didn’t even want to put our bags in the room, or sit down. Can’t believe anyone thinks this place is charming.

We enjoyed our stay here. Close to everything, very charming! Can’t wait to stay again. Prices were reasonable, so we will be able to come back multiple times my friends stayed elsewhere and weren’t as happy as we were. We ate at the Pioneer Patio, and they suggested we stay here. Glad we decided to stay! We will be back!!

If you are in Cooperstown during the Halloween season, this is a place to visit. The manager goes all out to decorate (inside and out) with some amazing pieces - ghosts, witches, etc. You name and he has it somewhere. Several of the pieces "talk"! A great place to stay as you are a block away from the Hall of Fame. A great breakfast that adheres to the correct CDC guidelines. As scary as this year has been the Tunnicliff brings out some things that will make you smile. Check it out!
