The Postgate is your typically British Pub but with spotlessly clean rooms and 1st class food. We had dinner on both nights and found the choice and quality of the food excellent, you can eat either in the restaurant or bar. The bar is very popular with the friendly locals, we will be back.

We arrived today, to an empty bar, we had to wait at least five minutes for the barmaid to come through when we said we had a booking she said 'oh yes your table is over there.' pointing to the corner. When we said we were booked for the resturant the barmaid appeared to question this, but reluctantly rearranged the...

A typical pub trying to produce good food but lacking the finesse. I had black pudding with scallops for the starter - there was enough black pudding for at least two helpings and an enormous heap of mashed potato beneath enough to call this a main course. Unfortunately the taste was drowned out by a large helping of sweet Cumberland...

Rolling heather moors and ancient woodland stretch away in all directions on narrow roads that twist and turn as often as they rise and fall providing any walker with, an unquenchable thirst to explore, a heaven of inspiring scenery and challenges. This was our plan but we also wanted an ideal location to explore the local market towns and fishing...

Stayed at the Postgate last weekend and had a really enjoyable time. Comfortable room, excellent food, good beer, welcoming and cheerful staff - what more could you want! It's also right next to Egton station so travel into Whitby is easy.

This was our second visit to the Postgate Inn. The food was absolutely delicious and portions were generous. Our only complaint was that it was so difficult choosing just one thing from the menu that we will have to visit again to try some more dishes!! :)

Near this review you will find one expressing disappointment at being turned away having not booked. Let me offer a different perspective. The Postgate Inn is a pub that serves exceptional food. It's not all gastro and trendy just a real pub with a a very good chef and a menu that appears to change, at least in part, regularly....

Arrived at our holiday cottage in the village today (Friday) and went to the Postgate Inn for a meal as we were tired after our long journey. We arrived at 6pm as the AA pub site said it opened at 6 but actually didn't open til 6.30. We order drinks and were then told that we wouldn't be able to...

The bar had an excellent local ale and wine selection. The evening's menu was posted on chalk boards in the bar. The was a wide variety of fish and meat items from which to choose. Four of our group selected the monk fish with scallops and shrimp and the meal was absolutely delicious. The dessert menu was also very good.
