we stayed 4 nights at Barra Lake Camp, the campsite at the lake run by the owners of Namizimu Forest Lodge. They recently extended the place with somr tree houses. We were the first guests to stay there. We had an amazing 4 days at thus place. Sleeping in a tree house is a stunning experience in itself - outdoors,...

Namizimu Forest Retreat is not something you would easily find in this region of Africa. It is special and not the usual touristic location one would expect - it is amidst a beautiful forest reserve with a stunning view at Lake Malawi. Even though it is a perfect location if you are on your way to the border to enter...

I had always wanted to visit Namizimu Forest Retreat after viewing the stunning photographs on their website and from listening to the rave reviews of friends. While I stayed there in February 2014, the overall experience was so memorable and immersive that it seems like I only travelled there yesterday. What makes Namizimu stand out from the other properties in...

I was there in September with a small group of volunteers working in Malawi. We were made to feel so welcome by Tara, Dave and their lovely staff. The homemade food, especially the bread and cakes are delicious. The room. The rooms are small but charmingly appointed with individual decor and very comfortable beds. Most rooms have a toilet and...

Its so good that I have been back twice since I took my parents there at Christmas. A place where you can relax, enjoy the forest and outside showers and pool, or take part in some hikes to wonderful places. Well done to Tara and Dave for creating a space to relax as a group, with your (adult) family or...

Hidden up in the hills, overlooking the Mangoshi valley, Tara and Dave, with their loyal local team, have renovated this old English house ,with its outdoor natural dip pool+ extensive parklands into simple, comfortable, peaceful and friendly haven- ever respectful of the history, of the local...

A truly magical place. Tara made us feel so welcome and part of the family. Namizimu Forest Retreat has given us some of our most memorable times in Malawi. Sitting on the plateau making pottery with two wonderful ladies from the village who astounded us with their skill and wisdom. A walk through the village, so many smiling children and...

I had the pleasure of staying for 2 nights at the Namizimu Forest Retreat and I was instantly in love with the resort. Right away I felt like I had always known both Tara and Dave who were most welcoming. The rooms are exceptionally clean and I slept like a baby in the clean mountain air. Since Namizimu is pretty...

I highly recommend Namizimu Forest Retreat. Off the beaten track, in the Mangochi Hills about 20 km south of Mangochi town, it's as tranquil and relaxing as anyplace I've ever been. No electricity (solar lamps often available), no traffic noise - only the chirping of the chicadas and the occasional grunt from the baboons who live in the surrounding forest....

Namizimu is absolutely incredible. My boyfriend and I stayed here for three nights during his visit from the US. It was by FAR our favorite place we have been to in the world. Everything about Namizimu is so wonderful, welcoming, and magical. The owners, Dave and Tara, are incredible, the staff is so friendly and welcoming, the food is amazing,...
