I adored this place. We checked out several of the other places nearby, but this one came out tops. The beach and pool areas were immaculate. Lush, well maintained gardens full of beautiful plants, trees, monkeys, squirrels and birds. The room was tastefully decorated, but beware of the mosquitos and other insects... No a/c but the fans were good, when...

It is not your ordinary hotel experience that you would expect in Malawi. The rooms are spacious (at least mine was very) but different from the ordinary run of the mill. From the tea/coffee making utensils, cups soap holders etc they all come in a very different packing. First day I could not find the shampoo because I expected it in...

We had a lovely weekend at the Makokola retreat. We stayed in both the garden rooms (less expensive) and the villas (more expensive)! The garden room were spacious, but the bathroom was small with a small shower. You will need to let the water run for about 5-10 minutes before it warms up, but we liked the tiles in the...

In August I stayed with a fiend for two nights at the Makokola Retreat and it was definitely a highlight of our Malawi trip. By entering through the gate you leave behind dusty roads and busy towns and enter a world of relaxation and recreation. Sunbathing at the beach, relaxing by the pool, strolling through the gardens: the Makokola Retreat...

We stayed here on the way to and on the way back from Tanzania. The runway is in an immaculate condition to land and what a treat it is to have customs at the resort. The welcoming drinks and lunch next to the runway was great, as was the rest of our stay. We were a big group, but never...

Knowing the resources available in Malawi, it is quite a feat to pull off a well run business and Club Mak meets the standards of a first world with the charm of the third. The staff are friendly, the food is always great and the rooms are comfortable and decorated with (tasteful) Malawian made furnishings. The location speaks for itself-...

The hotel provides an excellent view of the lake particularly at sun rise and sun set. The gardens are well laid out but the services are poor and the staff unhelpful. The hotel is overpriced for the services provided, There was no wifi as we were informed that there were problems with the service. We stayed in the garden rooms...

Stayed here for two nights as the Sunbird hotel was full. Stayed in room 53 which is a long walk from the main part. The room was clean but quite basic. The windows wouldn't shut properly and as it was a bit chilly at night this made the room colder. Luckily they had extra blankets. Wifi can only be accessed...
