Together with a colleague I was on a duty trip to Kayes and we found a place in Kamankole Palace. The city by itself is situated in the south-western part of Mali along the river Senegal. Kamakole is probably the best hotel in the region of Kayes, but that is unfortunately not saying much. On the strong points: the beds don't have holes, the AC mostly works (Kayes is extremely hot) the showers have decent pressure and there is hot water and there is even a pool and a pizza oven. This place is quite average all the way around. It has seen better days. The rooms are quite dated but fine for sleeping. The hotel has a wonderful pool: huge, surrounded by trees, dark blue tiles. And you will want to use it because Kayes is HOT HOT HOT. If only they would keep it clean! Of course there are...
