Rio Azul's two main strengths are its location and its staff. We were there primarily on a fishing trip but also to relax and get away from the bustle of Johannesburg. We were met by Charles at the airport and did the 2 hour northbound trip to the lodge with him. He was friendly and informative, this theme was to... More

Rio Azul is a fantastic African resort on a beautiful estuary. The staff are wonderful and the villas/rooms are more than comfortable. Our villa had a private pool which was a real treat. We were happy with all the amenities provided for fishing and the eagerness and willingness of the guides to assist us on our outings. The food was... More

We went to Rio Azul for 8 nights in July16. The intention was a fishing holiday with our three sons and while the website is OK we relied on only a few tripadvisor reviews and jumped in. We have been to Moz a few times and stayed in some wonderful and v pricey offerings. The cost was reasonable. Driving (from... More

We stayed at the Rio Azul lodge for four nights over Easter after staying at Vic falls then Sabi Sands. After a very scenic transfer along the beach we were given a warm welcome at the lodge by the Lodge manager Andre and the staff. The owners of the lodge John and Jane were present during our stay and were... More

The drive from the airport at Villanculos to the lodge is about 1.5 hours and isn't too bad considering how remote and idyllic the location for the lodge is. The lodge is situated on an estuary which is brilliant. The water is calm and very clear. It's also extremely warm and swimming is mandatory. We stayed in Villa 1 which... More

Rio Azul is an amazing place to experience Vilanculos. I was there for a friend's wedding and would recommend it to anyone looking to have a destination wedding or looking for some time out. I spent four lovely days there, the vilas are divine, the food was yummy and the peace of mind I left with cannot be bought. We... More

A magical place on the estuary with great staff and management, both very friendly and professional. Erhardt gave us a delightful late afternoon introductory cruise on the estuary & we followed that up the next day when we took out two tinnies, with Milton as our guide. We also went exploring ourselves when we paddled around in the sea kayaks.... More

Arriving at Rio Azul on the first night of our holiday (30th April - 10th May 2014) was such a relief after a long drive from Harare Zimbabwe. Having not heard about this well kept secret, we were a bit apprehensive booking our 2 week holiday over the internet so arriving to an extremely tastefully decorated, luxurious spacious lodge was...
