We spent 7 nights at Rickshaws Pousada e Cafe on the Island of Mozambique. It is a lovely hotel with very friendly staff who go out of their way to meet your needs. The rooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. Our room had a full kitchen so we were able to make our coffee each morning. The restaurant on the patio faces the ocean and it is very relaxing to watch the fishing boats as you eat your meals, enjoy the sunset each evening. The food is excellent! I would highly recommend this hotel whether you are doing business, or there for pleasure. They will help you set up tours to see the old Fort, the museum and even a walking tour of the Island. It was fascinating.

We spent seven nights at the hotel, and loved every day. The room was clean, had all the amenities, cleaning daily, decorated with local antiques and beautiful artwork. The bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning was very welcome after being outside. I loved the coffee and tea bar outside the rooms, as well as homemade cookies to enjoy.

This boutique hotel was comfortable and well-appointed. The room was spacious, clean (housekeeping came daily), decorated with antiques from around the Ilha de Mocambique yet had A.C., hot water, and comfortable bed. The hotel has a beach-front and from the restaurant you could see the sunset over the water. It has the charm of old world architecture (renovated ruin) but all the modern conveniences to make a comfortable stay. We loved our 8 day stay!

Family of 5 staying in the largest room available, it fit us all and had all the amenities and services we needed (kitchen, wifi, tv, fans, AC). The beds were comfy and plenty big, and the seating in the lounge room was as well. The kitchen was spacious and contained many utensils, however there was not any dish cleaning resources (no proper detergent or anything to dry with). The staff were great and brought a detergent to use, although it was very diluted and did not work amazing. The loungeroom was big enough and contained a large couch and 2 small couch/chairs (and a single bed). The fans and tv worked great, we had a problem with the tv electricity right after a big storm but the staff were amazing as always and fixed it very quickly. The rooms were spacious, and the beds were comfortable and the AC's did work, however the remotes were inconsistent and one of the Air Conditioners dripped occasionally while in use. This wasn't a huge problem, and the rooms were always able to be cooled (they also had fans). The staff were amazing during the whole stay, fixing and helping any problems that arose, and cleaning/giving us more water bottles when needed. The roof leaked during a few of the rains we had, which was a little surprising, but in comparison to the floods taking place in Makuti town it wasnt much, and we didn't notice it too much. Would highly recommend, good price and even better staff/amenities. Would go again in the future and would advise you try it out, nice place with great views and in a good location (was pretty quiet). It felt really cosy and we loved the atmosphere of the whole place (especially the restaurant as well).

We spent four nights on the Island of Mozambique in late February, early March of 2020. The bed was comfortable with aircon and mosquito nets both working well, so I slept great! They have beach front property and the location couldn't be better! The staff at Rickshaws went above and beyond our expectations. The food was superb (American and local cuisine) and they accommodated every need! They helped us organize local tours of the island and showed us where to purchase local souvenirs. If I have the privilege of returning to the island, I will not stay anywhere else!

We spent 3 nights at Rickshaw in October 2019. All in all this was the best hotel we´ve encountered in Mozambique in 4 years. It was the small details: super friendly and attentive staff, white wine&juice&milk in the fridge (usually, even if there are coffee making facilities, there´s no milk so this was a nice surprise), interesting locally handmade small soap bars in the bathroom instead of the usual boring liquid stuff in huge dispensers, TV and wifi that actually work, bathrobes & beach towels (the hotel had a good beach for swimming right in front of it so you don´t really need a pool!)... Rickshaw´s friendly staff organised everything we hoped for (a walkig & dhow tour) and, when I expressed my wish about buying certain local items as souvenirs, they helped me find them, too. (I bought the local soaps I had already tried & tested in the hotel room!) Hope to get back to Rickshaw´s care one day as 3 days just ended too soon!

The hotel is uniquely designed and the artwork throughout is magnificent. It is located right off the beach. So, the views are lovely and the sound of the waves are soothing. My room was very comfortable and immaculate. All the staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. For example, I wanted to try kayaking (they provide kayaks) and the owner sent a staff member out with me to show me how to do it and guide me around the Island. The hotel also has a restaurant downstairs that is absolutely scrumptious. The Island itself offers historical attractions and it is easy to get around. It is a must to experience a stay at Rickshaws!

Mozambique Island is a beautiful island filled with wonderful people and old Portuguese buildings. Rickshaws is located in Stoney Town on the west side of the island on beach front property on a bay of the Indian Ocean. The staff was exceptional from start to finish. Very accommodating, welcoming and professional. The views are amazing and the food from the restaurant downstairs was exceptional. Rooms are spacious and boutique. The furniture and artwork gives Rickshaws a personal feel you can’t find at most resorts today. It is a high end place with a down to earth feel. There is a lot to do between swimming, sea kayaks (Rickshaws provides these), boat rides and the island is full of history. If you do the tour of the old fort or the museum ask for James. He is a wealth of information about the history of the museum. While Rickshaws might be somewhat off the beaten path it is a can’t miss!

Wonderful island, wonderful hotel. A 200-year old Portugese house @ the beach of the Indian Ocean Bay. Excellent designed rooms. The prices are depending the rooms. But above all: The staff do their job in a great and respecting way! We felt very welcome and it was a great pleasure to stay in this 'hospedaria'. When we come again to Ilha de Moçambique, we will book Rickshaws!!!.
