My daughter and I stayed in this beautiful part of the mountains to hike some high peaks. JBL is the perfect base camp, and felt like our wilderness home. The staff were terrific, it was nice to mingle with other guests. Our stay was before...More

We love staying in the leantos at heart lake! Go several times of year. We typically go mid week to avoid weekend crowds, and it’s generally peaceful and quiet. Loons sometimes call from the lake, and there are tons of great hikes nearby. If you’re...More

Second time camping at heart lake. Great location to trailhead. Friendly staff and clean sites. The Hungry Hiker is going to be a nice addition once complete. Suitable lodging no matter what type of camper/glamper you might be. See ya next year.

It is not within walking distance of Main Street. I believe its site says 8 miles from Lake Placid and it a goodly drive off the main road into the property (which of course makes it very private)

Dogs should be allowed as long as you are not staying in the lodge itself. Yet, as Ken T. suggests, i would confirm directly with ADK club which maintains the lodges.
