i actually had a great experience here. much much cheaper than anywhere else and the furniture was antique and cosy. There is a beautiful lake right outside the rooms and a garden to relax in. really quiet and relaxing. The rooms are not high end hotel standard but cute and cosy. C

We stayed here for two nights in August and while I wasn't expecting much of this hotel, it was even worse than I imagined. The rest of Montauk had no vacancy, so we had no choice but to stay here. The room was dirty-- sand and dirt on the floor, dust visible, bathroom tiles were unclean. It looks like it hasn't had a proper cleaning in years. We had no hot water while showering both days. The bed was very uncomfortable and the towels were rough like cardboard. Management completely lacked hospitality skills. Next time, we know to book a different hotel earlier so we can bypass this dump.

Similar to the experiences of others (now that I've read other reviews) I was hung up on upon trying to make a reservation with the same woman. When I called the first time, she misunderstood my inquiry stating, "I don't want to be solicited or buy anything you're selling, goodbye!" and hung up. Confused and perplexed by her attitude, I decided to call again, just to clarify that I was not a telemarketer. The same woman answered the phone and told me, "WHAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT A HANG UP?! I'M NOT INTERESTED IN WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY!" and I had a moment to sneak inbetween her outburst, "but ma'am, I'm not trying to sell you anything" and she said, "I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY, DID YOU NOT HEAR ME?!?!!?" and hung up again. Needless to say, I won't be calling here again.…

This number goes to the owner's cell phone - and she answers the phone "What do you want?" I'm trying to book nights at the hotel - and she says that she can't take my reservation for a block of rooms and hangs up on me. I'm trying to book a business trip and I was hung up on. Nothing but rude!

Just wanted to warn anyone who deals with this place what the Avalon people did when we tried to get a room there recently. I had called the day prior to our trip and was told by a gentleman who answered that there was a room available for one night (which is all we wanted). We did not book at that time, however considered we might like to stay there. When we got to Montauk the next day, we phoned the Avalon to find out if the room was still available. This time we got a woman on the phone. She said " Yes", she had a room available. I said that we were very close to the resort and asked if she needed a credit card at that point to secure the reservation. She said yes to that as well. I proceeded to get my credit card out of my wallet. She said that check in would be later that day, not now. I asked if we would be able to bring our things there and perhaps just leave them in the room. She abruptly changed her tune on a dime and just matter of factly said that the room was not available for 1 night only! I mentioned that I had been told it was by a man who took my phone call just the day before. She didn't care at all about that. Very bad business if you ask me!! In my mind she should have honored that. But she didn't even acknowlege that. It was as if I hadn't even mentioned it at all. She was very dismissive AND very strange. Since I had her on speaker phone, my husband heard the call as well and thought it was very "off". We ended up staying at the Beachcomber Resort, which had such a great view and so many things going for it. But the whole exchange with Avalon was very dissapointing. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone because of the way we were treated.…
