After checking into this hotel on Sunday with no problems from the front desk staff, on Tuesday 27 November 2018 while walking through the lobby I noticed some cookies on the front desk for customers. I put one cookie on a napkin and the front desk woman came out from a office and quickly questioned me saying,"Are you checked into the hotel". I did not recognize that she was challenging my presence in the hotel so I simply replied with a friendly hello. She then asked me repeatedly if I was checked into the hotel. I replied with yes and walked towards the front door. Then a minute later my coworker, who is white, grabbed a cookie from the front desk and the same lady did not say anything to him at all. So why was I challenged repeatedly by this front desk woman and not my coworker. The answer is obvious, Im a black man and this is yet another example of racism. Im a paying repeat corporate customer and I was treated very poorly by the hotel staff. A year or so ago this same hotel gave an incoming customer keys to my room not knowing I was checked into it. This hotel consistently fails to provide any level of acceptable customer service from a Marriott level hotel and I intend to report these examples of poor performance to Marriott as well as influence my company against using this hotel for future stays.
Thank John R

Thank you for your feedback. I investigated your concerns and it appears that there was a miscommunication. I understand how this appeared but trust me when I tell you that this was not malicious. I have spoke to my staff to ensure that this does not happen in the future. There is a fine line between joking and knowing when someone is being serious. Please Accept my apologies regarding this matter.

The reviews for Newburgh hotels were all mixed. I think the low reviews were probably people expecting urban accommodations in a more rural location.

The Newburgh Courtyard Marriott was nicely located off 84 and 17, near 87. The facilities were decent and comfortable. The lows were: small pool (more like a giant hottub), some minor paint peeling in the corners of the bathroom and the mattress was one of those pillow top deals where you tend to roll to the middle of the bed.

These are all pretty small quibbles, IMO. It was a solid accommodation in Newburgh, and I would stay there again. I'd rate 3.5 if I could. Not a 4, but not really a 3, either.

Traveling on business I want two things: a good night's sleep and a swim at the end of a long day, which is why Marriott is one of my two go-to hotel chains (and I'm an Elite member). This hotel delivered neither. Pool was the smallest hotel pool I've seen (3 strokes end to end, two small for even two people), the water was very cold, and the hot tub was broken, so closed. My room was really cold all night so no good night's sleep either. Specifically the heat only put out cool air and the fan (on low) was too noisy for sleeping anyway so just turned it off for the night. In the morning I set temp all the way up to 80° and still only cool air. The entire end of the corridor by my room was frigid, so obviously their system in that part of the hotel is dysfunctional. Unfortunately I could even change rooms because they said at check-in the hotel was full when I asked why they put me on the ground floor (with no privacy from parking lot and contrary to my Marriott profile preferences), though I saw very few people and half-empty parking lot. Oh, and their only guest ice machine was broken too. I rely on Courtyard as one of the most dependable brands to be pleasant, clean and comfortable. Clearly this particular one has problems and I certainly won't go back.

Stayed here for a few nights on business, this was a very nice hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, and the shower was nice as well. The bed was really nice after a long day, and I appreciated having hot coffee available in the room as well. The bistro was nice for dinner and breakfast, and the evening bartender was outstanding! The fitness center was nice as well. Would definitely stay here again.

I have been a Marriott elite rewards member for some time and I am used to a high standard from Marriott properties. This property although clean was very old and was very misleading. They advertise 2 queen beds for our room. When we arrived there were 2 double beds. This was very uncomfortable for myself and my husband to sleep and we are both average sized individuals. Also as an elite member we are supposed to receive a welcome package with water and maybe chips. When I asked about it I was told they don’t do that here. If you are looking for the true Marriott experience I don’t recommend you stay here.
