This hotel has a great location. It is right on the beach, on a quiet road. There are bungalows to rent, or rooms in a large, old house (sort of) structure. We stayed in the house on the top floor. It is a bit strange, as the rooms are all facing the ocean, but there are no windows...very dark indeed....

I spent 2 nights at Auberge de Grand Popo. Mr. Guy, the owner, is super friendly, helpful, and speaks English. He has lots of interesting stories to tell and can help you to arrange some day trips at a fair price. We did a trip to the voodoo village. Great fun in the village, on the boat, walking to/from the...

The Auberge is a very nice and quiet place to stay. We went here as we had the experience of the Auberge in Abomey. The place is nice, but not well maintained so it definitely doesn't look anymore like the pictures. We enjoyed our stay in the Auberge, although the outside bungalows don't have mosquito nets and the room wasn't...

The beach is just a minute to the room and the sound of the wave made me have a beautiful sleep. Also, breakfast was amazing and fresh! Very old hotel, rooms and almost no amenities. The WI-FI does not work, there was no telephone in the room. The floor is bare, wooden windows. The beach and breakfast are the only...

I spent a few nights there. The place still has some old charm, but that's about all there is to it. The rooms are old and neglected. The swimming pool is a joke. The food is bad. There are better beach hotels in Grand Popo

This review is about the restaurant, not the hotel per se. I have been here for lunch twice now, and I was nicely impressed on both. The setting is great: right on the beach, with a nice decor and an equally nice veranda, everything comme il faut. The food is good as well: on the first visit I had one...

The auberge is a stunningly beautiful place. Situated next to the ocean in a clean area. The old colonial buildings have been modified into a restaurant, hotel building and bungalows. Swimming in the ocean is not possible due to the strong current. The swimming pool is a bit small and shallow. For European standards it is great value for money...

It's a lovely place to stay, fantastic location and environment. The staff are really nice, even after about 4 days when we were the only customers for most meals. They speak mostly french but make friendly attempts at English. The food is good with mains about 4,600 CFAs and drinks about 1000. The beach is nice and the pool is...

In spite of the vicissitudes in my experiences here I still love this place. I can't count the number of times I've been here. Initially I was absorbed by the great service so when that seemed to slip a bit I was disappointed. However, they have recently begun a gradual upgrading of the rooms so that they now have 4...

It is difficult for me to rate this hotel because it is very basic, lacking air conditioning (except in one room) and hot water, but the restaurant is absolutely superb, even compared with good restaurants in New York. In addition, the owner, Guy Catherine, is extraordinarily helpful in all ways, beyond the call of duty. For me, the restaurant is...

“One of the coolest things about this hotel is that it has essentially 4 different room choices. All of the rooms are essentially the same in terms of amenities. The least expensive rooms have all the other rooms have inside but no view and no outside area. Those are the "garden view" rooms. There are 4 rooms in two "bungalows" which are the most expensive. These small stand-alone houses have private front porches which are comfortable but not really necessary since there is so much other space in the hotel which is so nice to spend time in. There is one large building which looks like an old colonial building they have adapted to this purpose. There are only 8 rooms in that building, 4 upstairs, 4 downstairs, all with access to a large veranda, the view upstairs being the best in the hotel. The coolest thing about the downstairs rooms in this building is the loft in each one with another bed and a staircase in the room going up to it. These are the rooms I always prefer if I am there with more than one other person.”
