Nice place, with a fantastic restaurant on site. Rooms are clean and have good coffee and a fridge. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star rating, is the beds tend to be a bit noisy. But I have no other complaints.

We spent two nights at Fred's, using it as a base while we visited friends in the area. Did NOT try the restaurant, so this review talks strictly about the hotel accommodation. It may be the best in Norwich, I can't say. I found it perfectly adequate for what we needed: A bed, a shower, good AC and decently clean and quiet.

My companion thought her room was less adequate than mine; perhaps expectations made the difference.

MY AC was terribly loud 1st night, before the 2nd night I spoke with the bar tender, we pulled the front filter and washed it in the sink. LOTS of dust, and maybe it was quieter 2nd night.

Bed was comfortable. Beautiful sunrises if you wake up early.

Not much for the business traveler in the Norwich NY area. We stayed at Fred's Inn for 4 nights. Clean, large rooms, excellent service and the food is the best in town. We met others staying in nearby hotels who came to Fred's to eat.
If I must reurn, I'll stay at Fred's Inn.

Very Clean Comfortable Room! We had a room with a king bed, sleeper sofa and fireplace. The room was very large and had a fridge, microwave, Keurig and small table. The room had plenty of space even with all this and a desk. I room was very clean. The housekeeper and staff were friendly. I will be back to stay.

If you are in need of lodging in the Norwich NY area, this is the place to go. Avoid the chain motels which cater to the "not so nice" crowd. Fred's is a clean, comfortable place, with large rooms and an extra: One great restaurant on site. The food at the restaurant is very reasonable, and excellent.

My wife and I stayed here for a mini weekend vacation. This was an adorable inn. Very clean and everyone was friendly. The room we had was comfortable and well equipped. The buffet was yummy as well. We only stayed two nights but we will definitely come back!

The room looked clean at first. Went to turn the bed down and it looked like someone had just slept in it. Dirty stains on the blanket and the sheets. Drove down the road to the Walmart and bought a set of sheets and a blanket for our own use. No heat at night and it was in the 30s. In the morning the toilet had a plumbing issue but there was no answer at the lounge (aka front desk) and now we can't use the bathroom until we physically hunt someone down. Tried the buffet the night before. Salt, salt and salt....and the beef was as tough as shoe leather. Stay at the Howard Johnsons...at least you are in town and can walk to find breakfast.

The room is OK. The advertised price on the internet for our room with a King Size bed was $79 per night. I called and was told the room was $89 per night. I was OK with that. Then comes time to pay...now the room has unadvertised weekend rates of $149 for Friday and Saturday nights. I was not told this during my phone call to Fred's Inn, nor is it on their website. We stayed for 5 nights, the "owner" was never available and was the only one who could fix the problem. Humm, not good.

I stayed at Freds on during Hall of Fame Week at Cooperstown. The Reception area is in the bar as some have posted, but they assist you almost immediately when you walk through the door. Use the door along State Highway Twelve the other door from the parking lot takes a lot of turns to get where you need to be. Walk right up to the corner of the bar and someone will help you.

I had room 18 and when I walked in I expected something much less than what I was in. The room was clean, nicely sized and appointed well with above normal grade furniture than I expected from an upstate NY Motel. The room however did smell like men's cologne and i wondered if someone dropped cologne on the floor or if the Freds Staff was trying to cover something up. The AC was already on, relatively new and did not make a lot of noise. The bed was definately not new, but was comfortable and clean.

Noise was heard from other rooms, but not to the level that it kept me awake or was annoying in any way. I can see some people being bothered by it if they are light sleepers. Room Eight as someone has posted is right between the two stairs leading upstairs so that one probably has more noise than any other room. The bathoom was clean and the bathtub was relatively new.

The bar was good, they have Horse Racing and Keno hookups so that you can bet on the races or play Keno. It draws some local in who were very nice and friendly. I didn't eat any food here so I can't comment on that.

All in all Freds was above average, not great but certainly not bad. The one policy they had that I did not appreciate was that during Hall of Fame Induction week they charge $89 a room not refundable if you cancel. If I go to that area again I would stay there again and hope for a better rate.

There is just not much of a choice in the area. The room was relatively clean. Beds were "a la summer camp" -- very uncomfortable. Bathroom was spacious and clean. They provided plenty of towels. It was nice to have a microwave and fridge. I agree with other posts that the walls are very thin. It appeared there were only four other rooms booked on the night we stayed, but we could hear everything. Would not want to stay here when they were fully booked. And yes, the highway noise is there if you are a light sleeper. A bit pricey at $79 for what you get, but there just isn't anywhere else to stay in the area if the Howard Johnson is full. The staff at the onsite restaurant and lounge were lovely and made every effort to please. The food at the restaurant was okay -- not great.
