Let's face it. You're going into this knowing you're not staying at the Marriott Marquis. Take this attitude and there really isn't much wrong with the Oasis (which I think is now called the Motel 88 or something of the sort). It is a bit out of the way, off into the West End of town, but nothing a $5 cab ride can't fix to get you to Main Street or up to either of the college campuses. The room was sparsely furnished, with a desk, counter, night stand and a flat screen mounted on the wall. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the bathroom was clean and well stocked. The free WiFi internet access was a little on the slow side, but hey, it's free. The key card was a little troublesome but we got the hang of it. All the other hotels in town were excessively expensive so we chose the Oasis and weren't disappointed. If you need cheap accommodations while you drop off your kid for the semester, or want a layover halfway to Buffalo, like we did, give the Oasis/Motel 88 a shot.

Don't go in expecting luxury accommodations because you won't find it here. However, if you are on a budget or, like me, waited too long to book your stay near Oneonta, it's not a terrible place. I agree with many of the other reviewers in that it's very outdated and a bit sketchy looking from the outside but I do not agree that it was filthy. Apart from a stain here and there, I actually found it rather clean. My water pressure was good, the AC and fridge worked great, it's in a safe and quiet location, McDonald's and Walgreens are both nearby and it's super close to the Oneonta colleges. The woman at the front desk was friendly and check in and out was a breeze. I parked right in front of my room and had no issues at all once inside. The bed was ok other than a stain on one of the bed spreads (so I just slept in the other bed). No hair dryer. Plenty of soap but no shampoo and conditioner so plan accordingly. I arrived after a day of moving my daughter into her house for senior year, slept fine and was on my way in the morning so I didn't need much more.

I stay in about 50 motel rooms a year on a tight budget. This place deserves three stars easily. I thought it was good value for the price. The clerk was very helpful and positive. The place is old and rooms small but, decent updates and clean. The bathroom was up to date and the bed linens were actually quite nice. Internet was good but the TV was on the small side. All in all, give it a B- and a solid B for value!

Disgusting, horrible, not enough adjectives to describe. Parents heading upstate to visit children in college may be tempted by the low (? $87 a night ?) rate, but it's not worth it. Spent the extra $10 a night at the Super 8 or Econo Lodge. We didn't even have a bed! There was an untreated plywood platform with a boxspring and mattress on top that served as the bed. That's it!The sheets and comforter appeared as if they hadn't been washed. The phone was disgusting. Fingerprints all over it, and crud in between the push button numbers. The bathroom was a disgrace and disgusting.I felt filthy staying there. We would have left but all other hotels were booked for parent's weekend. The motel "office" seems to double as a living room and there are blankets, pillows, newspapers and filth all over. The stench coming out of the 'restaurant' is disgusting.Parents -- when bringing your kids to college, or when going up to visit, avoid the Oasis at all cost!

Nice place for our sports team to stay. We are pretty much busy and out of the place during day. It provides a clean room and comfortable beds for sleeping. There are places in town to eat and Cooperstown is 20 minutes away.

I forgot a pair of Nike sneakers and I called that same day and said, I will pick them up the next day on my way home. The front desk said housekeeping tossed them in the trash already. When I asked to speak to a manager she said.... there is no number to call Mr. Chen and he doesn't take emails. I then called the next day and got the same lady which doesn't speak well English. She was very rude and wouldn't tell me her name. The sneakers were new and only worn once but what gets me so mad is the dishonesty at motel 88. There is a guy is walking around with a nice pair of sneakers that he stole from a guest.

There was no bedding. The rug was covered with stains. The bathtub was icky and there was no shower curtain, toilet paper or garbage bin. The curtain shielding us from the creeps outside was so encrusted with filth it was thick and sticky. Two beds and 1 pillow. Marijuana stems and a joint roach in the night table drawer. Crumbs in the drawer... the door was filthy... in fact the entire place was. Don't go here. Avoid at all costs...

Awsome dude! They have a grand piano in the reception as well as birds, fish and a chinese girl who is practicing Beethoven. All good fun!
Our rooms have tacky drapes and the porch smells a little like fish, but it is cozy ... if you like fish.
Bring your own whiskey and have breakfast at Dennys, and all is well.
This place is great! They have vacant rooms at midnight.

I recently got back from Oneonta NY with a few friends. We decided to take a road trip this summer to visit our old haunts, since we are alums of SUNY Oneonta. Oasis seemed like a cheap and convenient option so we made reservations to stay there for two nights. I totally regret this decision.

The room we got, with two double beds, was terrible. While the beds were comfortable, there were BLOOD SPOTS all over the comforter of one of the beds, as well as blood inside the nightstand drawer (along with crumbs and dust). The AC was ancient and didn't really work, and the curtains were unmovable and hanging on the rod by metal nails. It seriously looked like a crack den. The flat-panel TV on the wall looked completely out of place in the room, which was not at all cleaned in the two days we were there.

The bathroom was just as bad as the rest - rusty radiator, moldy bath mat, and yellowing shower walls. It was just BAD BAD BAD.

Honestly, I would not stay here ever again. Even though my friends and I were rarely in the room, it was not at all comforting to go to bed on dirty sheets in a room that could define the complete opposite of cleanliness. Yuck!

My son and I went to Cooperstown for Chipper Jones' Hall of Fame induction and booked Motel 88 because it was cheap (relatively speaking considering it was induction weekend) and as close to Cooperstown as we could find.

I wasn't real encouraged when we pulled up. The place looked like it was right out of the 1970 ... including an actual key, rather than a keycard to unlock the door. But my mind was put at ease when we got into the room. The place was clean and well-maintained, the flatscreen TV was new, the wireless worked and was free and the beds were comfortable. There was also a Chinese restaurant attached to the front office and what appeared to be a steak place directly across the street.

The thing about Motel 88, however, was the staff of this mom-and-pop operation. The manager Toni was amazing ... helpful, friendly and extremely accommodating. We'll definitely be staying here again on our next pilgrimage to Cooperstown!
