Our rooms have tacky drapes and the porch smells a little like fish, but it is cozy ... if you like fish.
Bring your own whiskey and have breakfast at Dennys, and all is well.
This place is great! They have vacant rooms at midnight.
The room we got, with two double beds, was terrible. While the beds were comfortable, there were BLOOD SPOTS all over the comforter of one of the beds, as well as blood inside the nightstand drawer (along with crumbs and dust). The AC was ancient and didn't really work, and the curtains were unmovable and hanging on the rod by metal nails. It seriously looked like a crack den. The flat-panel TV on the wall looked completely out of place in the room, which was not at all cleaned in the two days we were there.
The bathroom was just as bad as the rest - rusty radiator, moldy bath mat, and yellowing shower walls. It was just BAD BAD BAD.
Honestly, I would not stay here ever again. Even though my friends and I were rarely in the room, it was not at all comforting to go to bed on dirty sheets in a room that could define the complete opposite of cleanliness. Yuck!
I wasn't real encouraged when we pulled up. The place looked like it was right out of the 1970 ... including an actual key, rather than a keycard to unlock the door. But my mind was put at ease when we got into the room. The place was clean and well-maintained, the flatscreen TV was new, the wireless worked and was free and the beds were comfortable. There was also a Chinese restaurant attached to the front office and what appeared to be a steak place directly across the street.
The thing about Motel 88, however, was the staff of this mom-and-pop operation. The manager Toni was amazing ... helpful, friendly and extremely accommodating. We'll definitely be staying here again on our next pilgrimage to Cooperstown!
"Pay extra and go elsewhere, seriously. This room was worth $18 along the highway in a ghetto."Read full review
