Had a wonderful 2 night stay at TRC with my two teenagers. Thanks to Jungle Paul and Laura who made our stay memorable. Most rooms now have private bath rooms but also the shared facilities are very clean and easy to reach. A wonderful place to experience wildlife. Great kitchen, bar and most important very friendly and caring staff. Highly...

Have just returned from here. We stayed for 4 nights. Our guide was Paul. He was extremely knowledgeable about everything in the Amazon, all the different birds, monkey sounds and plants. We saw many macaws, monkeys, spiders and a tapir during our stay. The food was great, really tasty. We would go for a morning walk before breakfast and then...

I have the best memories of my time at TRC. Started from when we were picked up from the airport in Puerto Maldonado, to the amazing boat trip up river for so many hours, to the magical arrival at TRC in the late afternoon. We received such a wonderfully warm welcome from the staff and an orientation to the Centre,...

Fascinating visit, very interesting address by the professor leading the research. All the staff and researchers were engaging and welcoming. Good was simple wholesome and top notch. Lodge is kept spotlessly clean. Manager was especially knowledgable and happy to share with us. Go!

We took a 5 day/4 night expedition with Rainforest Expeditions in which we visited Refugio Lodge for 1 night and spent 3 spectacular nights at the Tambopata Research Center where we saw the beautiful macaws and parrots and many other animals thanks to our amazing guide, Jose Luis. It was also great to interact with the researchers at TRC and...

The darkness of the night sky began to soft though dawn had not yet broken when like an axe laid to the trunk of a tree the first howls split the calm. Then it stopped. I lay in bed waiting for what I knew must come. A rhythmic percussion started outside our bedroom, a distant call here and there, long...

A unique experience to see the rain forest and all its wonders upclose and personal, sleeping in a three sided room was different but other than making sure the mosquito net was in place is perfectly safe. Take a low wattage torch it doesn't attract as many insects especially on night walks, the food was good not surprisingly plenty of...

This lodge has 18 guest rooms and 8 shared bathrooms. The rooms have fresh linens on the beds, netting to protect from bugs, fresh towels provided, fresh drinking water every day, clothes lines to hang out wet items, night stands, chairs and battery operated night light. Very clean! And the spacious bathrooms were extremely well kept and cleaned several times...

Amazing place to stay. Loved it. Very unique experience. I stayed in this 6 day 5 night classic in October 2013. The food, staff, walking, bird watching, and showers are something unforgettable. I rated this place better than any 5 star hotel.

I recently came back from the 4 day/3 nights Tambopata research center tour, with Rainforest expeditions. I rate this place as 5 stars based on my overall experience. Many people may not appreciate the open concept of the rustic hotel condition, including no 24 hour electricity, very weak wifi signal, public bathroom, etc, but those are essential to bring you...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Tambopata Research Center (TRC) is a spartan yet comfortable 18 bedroom lodge with 8 shared bathrooms. Because of its remote location in uninhabited wilderness, housing stable populations of endangered wildlife, the small scale of its infrastructure and operations and the presence of researchers and naturalist guides, Tambopata Research Center is an excellent headquarters for in depth explorations of Amazonian nature and wildlife. It is located in a half hectare clearing in the middle of the uninhabited portion of the Tambopata National Reserve, less than a kilometer from the world's largest and most diverse macaw claylick. ... more   less
