Rita, Christian and staff went beyond our expectations for this stay. They went the extra mile assisting us with transit, directions, reservations and made us feel right at home. The hotel is located a lovely 5 minute walk from the center of Anacapri which is one of the most gorgeous and quaint places I've ever been. There are so many cool shops, restaurants and fun things to do in Anacapri, which is just a bus ride away from the marina or Capri. I highly recommend this stay as you will be treated like family and staying at a very clean and well run hotel.

Small cosy traditional family-owned Hotel in Anacapri that is second to none! This hotel is situated near the city center, but you will find your way easy trough the small charming, mazelike streets of that neapolitan island.
The friendly lady welcomes you with cute smiling at the reception and is not above giving you the best tips for a perfect accomadtion and stay around.
A place to furfill every wish at this neat and native island with crystal clear water.

Hotel Bussola is definitely worth a visit and worth every cent you pay for it. Rita (Host) and her staff is wonderful and very service minded. Breakfast was incredible, and you really feel like home.
Originally we were only staying for 2 nights but couldn’t help but stay for even longer. Location is incredible if you want easy access to the town of Anacapri and it’s restaurants, as well a 5 minute walk to a short bus ride to the beautiful beach of Faro. The hotel is very clean with modernistic features in a classic Mediterranean authentic style .

The only negative thing about our experience here was... that we failed to book at least 2-3 nights. We only had time for one night on Capri, but it was an unforgettable evening. Rita was extremely helpful from the jump, even when exchanging our first messages when we booked 3 months in advance.

My girlfriend was not feeling well on the way into Sorrento, where we caught a ferry. Rita helped arrange people to help direct us at several locations, and gave us tips on how to find a good cabbie. Once we arrived, we were greeted with all the knowledge we needed to enjoy our stay on Capri. I took a 3 minute video of Rita giving us the run down on where to find busses, where to eat, and sights to see, all located on the very detailed map they offered us. We checked in and the room was delightful; great room temperature control and very inviting. The whole property was a bright, decorated display of what the island has to offer as a whole.

Top-notch breakfast included, very reasonable rate. Round the clock service, so beverages are always accessible, with a nice variety.

Upon checkout, we were given a private shuttle to the center of Anacapri, where we linked up with a very friendly taxi driver. All around a great experience.

It was incredible, extremely attentive, helpful, welcoming friendly people.
Family run, nothing is too much, even if like me you want 4 cappuccinos for breakfast.
Perfectly situated for a relaxing stay in Anacapri.
We even asked for a twin room & they changed us the second day with no problem at all.
Transfer to & from the bus stop, even a lift one day to the ski lift

Prior to making this reservation, I read several good reviews about Rita who apparently runs this hostel. She was referred to as the Lovely Rita. I made our reservation approximately 6 months in advance and followed up with an email updating our new credit card expiration date. This email was confirmed by Rita. The day before leaving for Italy, I received an email from Rita stating that if I did not send my current credit card info, she was going to cancel my reservation and we would lose the private room we had booked. I responded that she already had this info and she replied "OK, thanks".

Upon arrival in Anacapri, we discovered the internet directions to the hostel were terribly incorrect. We spent a considerable amount of time "wandering aimlessly" and asking several people for directions. The room was very nice - no complaints - except that when we asked about security, she assured us it was not a problem. She indicated the door locks and the locked outside gate. We went out for several hours and when we returned, we explored the room further. We were quite surprised to open the drapes to the three sliding doors in the room and find that not only were they not locked, they did not even close properly. One of them was open a good 15 inches! Fortunately, we had no theft problem.

The straw that broke the camel's back was when we went to check out and leave. Rita took a phone call, which seemed to be a personal call. She kept us waiting at least 10-15 minutes while she talked on the phone. Another employee tried to check us out, but could not run our credit card since she had the phone line tied up. She finally hung up and I handed her my card. She informed me that they didn't accept credit cards! I told her that everything I had - emails, etc - indicated we could pay by credit card. She pointed to a sign above her desk - cash or travellers checks. My husband told her it was difficult to see the sign from the United States, but she was not humored. She finally said she would take the card, but would have to charge a commission. She continued to argue with us, then accused us of causing a problem in the first place by not sending the expiration date of our credit card! We really had no choice at this point - we were already quite late for the bus and boat off the island - and did not have the cash on hand. We paid by credit card, including the "commission".

After leaving the hostel, we met up with another couple who had also just checked out. Their story was quite similar - the "Lovely Rita" wasn't so lovely to them either.

FYI - this hostel does not have internet access for the guests - another misrepresentation.

By far the worst accomodation we had while travelling for several months around Europe.

The description of the hotel is misleading, the owners unprofessional and the rooms extremely overpriced. While our room had air conditioning, we were not permitted to keep the remote control (the only way of turning it on or off) and had to ask to have it switched on or off. Rita would only do this between certain hours of the day as she felt it was too expensive to run in the 30+ degree celcius weather.

The towels were tattered and had ugly brown stains and our room had a glass door opening onto a communal courtyard where the lights shone through all night and the people talking seemed to be in our room. We had to use our portable closeline to rig up a screen for the door so we could try to sleep. Unfortunately the water pipes were old and rattled late through the night preventing us from sleeping anyway.

We did not feel that our room was secure and found the staff to be rude, inflexible and unhelpful. We did receive the local advice that was mentioned in other reviews but it had the feel of a tired spiel that even Rita was bored with.

I strongly recommend you find somewhere else to stay, I can't see how this place can lead to anything but dissapointment on what is a lovely island. (Marina Piccola is an absolute delight)

We booked ahead and were met at Capri and taken to the hostel. Rita wasn't there and there was neither running water or heating working. Needless to say we left and had to get ourown taxi to Capri.

I found the hotel 'Bussola di Hermes' to be entirely unprofessional and overpriced. When we first arrived, the room we were shown (for 85 Euros a night) was in the middle of the noisy breakfast room, used as a social area in the late evening. We could here every voice from inside. When I had called to reserve the room(from the Rough guide to Italy), the location of the room was not described. When we inquired about a room switch, we we offered only a newer room for 95 euros. She made it sound like she was doing us a favor. The room, although brand-new, had electrical wires out of the walls in the bathroom and in the bedroom, no air-conditioning, no telephone, and was sweltering at night. The breakfast was straight out of a discount store- powder cappuccino's from an automatic machine, and packaged croissants of poor quality.
When we asked about whether we could have an extra towel, we were told that it was an unreasonable request. We were granted one old towel with a very condescending scoff.
The credit card machine was 'broken' the next morning, and by the time we got out of there, we were thankful to leave. It was, by far, the worst place we visited on our trip. There are better values out there!

I stayed at the Bussola over US Thanksgiving Break with fellow college students on a class trip. The first room they put us in had no heat, IN NOVEMBER, and no hot water for showers. We spent the first night huddled together for warmth around a tiny space heater that they provided. The second day, we talked to Rita and were given a new room. The room was nice, it had a small dining area, but STILL NO HEAT... It was ridiculous. We had a terrible time there, with no heat and no hot water to even attempt to stay warm. I would not reccomend anyone staying there becuase you don't know what you are getting into.

PS... Capri was AMAZING... Stay somewhere that deserves to be on the island.

Is there a pool at this hotel? Thank you.
Answer from Grizellegl
Irving, Texas9 contributions4 helpful votes
Yes, there is an above ground pool. For a more amazing view of the Tyrrhenian Sea, may I recommend Faro Beach. 90% of all beaches on the amalfi coast and Capri are rocky not sandy. Faro Beach is Rocky but OH MY GOOD, it is beautiful. For about $25-$30 USD, you can get a chair with umbrella on the beach next to inground cliff pool that is quite large. Take a few steps down and you can go into the sea. Would go again in a heartbeat. It was also not very congested like the other touristy beaches. Faro means lighthouse and it is on the southern western corner of the island and about 15 minutes by bus.

The room I stayed in was for two. The bed was the equivalent of a full-size bed. You can ask Rita (she responds quickly) if there are sofa beds or portable twin beds that are customary abroad. Everything in Italy seems to be just a little smaller than what we are accustomed to in the States, including the bathrooms. While in Italy it is simply the norm. Showers instead of baths, minimalist decor etc. I asked why that was while on the Amalfi Coast and the answer simply was, that they rather spend more time out, enjoying life than inside.
