I booked this hotel to celebrate my wedding day and all the family stayed in this hotel over the weekend. During our stay, the staff was always very helpful and supportive. However, some of the rooms were quite small, and as many of the reviewers mentioned before - the bathrooms really need some upgrades. Despite that, the worst part was that I left my wedding gift (expensive earrings) in the hotel (I know is my own fault and I can blame just myself for that) and I notice this 4 hours after we left. I asked the hotel if they could send them back to me (I would pay all the shipping cost) however they said that they found the earrings but didn't send them and just kept them to themselves. Feels really sad that the hotel staff that was so friendly during our stay was more than ok just to keep such an important piece for me...…

Awesome hotel-Lorenzo so friendly and helpful-thanks to him we had the best holiday ever. The owner and boss is super friendly too. Front desk so helpful and tell you amazing places to go. The guy who drives the shuttle so friendly and helpful and does everything for you. A super ,friendly hotel where all the staff are so helpful. The breakfast and the view are outstanding

I would advise anyone who is considering booking this hotel to avoid at all costs. The pictures on the hotel website and booking.com are not representative of the reality. I was told my booking had a view of Monte Solaro. I was given a room on the ground floor with a view of a wall. Floor tiles broken, the toilet flush fell on the floor when used, lights practically hanging off walls with wires visible, broken wall, thick dust in the wardrobe, wardrobe handle broken, mould on the wall, holes in pillows, paint peeling off the radiator and rust showing. Generally a complete state of dilapidation. The room was next door to the downstairs toilets, which wasn’t a pleasant smell. Complained to the hotel and was told there was no alternative, they weren’t even that bothered. Complained to booking.com on the evening of arrival and the customer service agent was very apologetic and said I would receive a refund. I’m still waiting. Booking.com have offered me €33 for something that cost €225 with the excuse that the hotel hasn’t responded to them within the given timeframe. Which is just booking.com fobbing me off too. The hotel is not likely to respond since they haven’t even responded to one single review good or bad on Tripadvisor. They probably don’t think they need to because of their location. People should stop booking this property and then maybe they might take some notice. If you want to ruin your trip to Capri, then stay here. My opinion….. to be avoided at all costs.…

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It’s in a stunning area of Anacapri with amazing views at every turn. Our room was a little dated but we didn’t mind that as it was spotless as was the bathroom. All staff were very pleasant and approachable in every area of the hotel. Great breakfast selection in the dining room which has the best panoramic views. Also had a very nice meal in the bar/restaurant downstairs. Really nice pool area too and the hotel grounds are beautiful.

A nice historic Hotel. Did not read the reviews before booking otherwise maybe I would not have booked which would have been a crying shame. As with everything in life there are pluses and minuses. Taking a point from some of the comments below. The star system in Italy is not based on the star system you may find in Europe or the USA. What people may deem to be unfriendly is the staff trying their best to cater for all in a professional manner. I personally found all the staff very approachable. The hotel is old and possibly the oldest in Anacapri so there are limitations what they can do. Yes there is possibly room for improvement in some rooms. Our stay was within a polonged storm. We could have done with coffee making facilities but we survived without. We were confined for almost 48 hrs with only the occasional break in the weather. You can use the road to get to the Anacapri bus stop but we recommend using the route via the pathway to Villa San Michele. The buffet breakfast was extensive and was a great way to start the day. We had only one low experience during our stay when the hotplate with the hot food was off. However there was so much choice that it did not really matter. There is a free pick up on arrival which we did not realise. However when we checked out we took this service to the port. The driver was exceptional around the hairpin bends. We had a twin bed rather than double and we could have done with extra bedding due to the weather at times. Am sure reception would have helped out but we did not ask. The room could have done with some care in some places. However room was spotless and the bathroom was lovely. Powerful shower. I hold my hand up at not speaking much Italian but the staff accepted that and were seemed okay. I cannot speak for other guests but we enjoyed our time at Hotel San Michele. Reading through the reviews its down to expectations. We just wanted to be in Anacapri and this hotel was the ideal fit. Would I stay again. Yes I would. I would possibly book direct next time.…

A lovely hotel in a great location. Easy walking distance to Anacapri, which is a lovely area, much less commercial than Capri, full of lovely restaurants and bars. The hotel itself is reminiscent of a bygone era, and would have been at one point very grand. Now it’s a little shabby and worn, but still beautiful. Great breakfast and extremely helpful staff. Good value for money. Don’t forget your insect repellent when visiting this area!

Hotel was ok. It’s well located just a short walk from Anacapri. Also has breathtaking views over Capri. Breakfast was good and plentiful and the shuttle was very convenient from Marina Grande. But the hotel is definitely showing it’s age rooms are small and the restaurant was non existent with a very small menu with half of it not available

Hotel San Michele is a majestic and historic hotel situated at the edge of Anacapri and only a few minutes taxi or hotel shuttle ride from the main port of Capri. Our first floor room was large, clean, and perfect for a 3-person family. It had a long balcony with sweeping views of the hotel grounds and sea. Breakfast was ample and included everything from eggs/bacon/sausage to a variety of delicious pastries. The hotel pool is also very nice and great for families. Be sure to taste the best iced cream coffee at the pool bar! Downtown Anacapri is a short 5 minute walk where you can find amazing shopping and restaurants. Our favorite restaurant was Il Saraceno, which had the best linguine with clams. We look forward to returning to this hotel next summer. Thank you for a wonderful stay!…

I am here at the hotel San Michelle in Capri. Yes an older hotel but with charm & character. The staff are very helpful & the views are stunning. I will be coming back here again & will reccomend the Island & hotel to all my friends.

AVOID THIS PLACE. We prepaid for our room 6 months in advance and phoned them before boarding the ferry to Capri with no issues reported by them. I phoned them again 30 minutes later after arriving on the island to arrange a shuttle to the hotel. At that point, I was told that we no longer had a room and that they'd booked us a room at a lesser, noisy ground level hotel on the marina with a bad view. This is not the type of service becoming of a supposed 4-star property. Don't let this happen to you!
