I knew from the moment that my eyes rested on the River Cabin nestled among the trees and overlooking the meandering French Broad River that Paradise was Found! My Five Star rating is not so much for what Deerwoode IS but what it will DO for your spirit! What we have here is 175 acres of lovingly cared for grounds... More

Was fortunate enough to experience Deerwood during a travel thru the area. Unfortunately, my journey to Brevard was brief as it was merely a midway point to another destination... but on a whim I booked a night in the "wolfe" cabin. What an experience. Amazing and beautiful! I found myself walking the grounds and taking pictures before the sun set.... More

A serene picturesque property outside of Ashville with access to numerous outdoor activities. Due to it's proximity & conservation mentality Deerwoode actually allows you to slow down and get away from the stresses of life. Recently our group of 20 celebrated a milestone birthday -- Bill and Matt were simply fantastic host and took time to educate us about the... More

The Deerwoode Resort is just magnificent. Owned by Bill and Elizabeth Mayes and their son, Matthew, it's the story of a family dedicating their entire lives to preserving a sanctified place for the pleasure of others. The Lodge and all the cabins were built with the owners own hands and the property is impeccably maintained by the owners. My wife... More

What a treat! We had about 14 women who graduated from Brevard High a number of years back get together and it was the perfect location for a memorable weekend. We booked the Coyote Lodge which is a wonderful, large, cozy, super clean and warm building Mr. Bill Mayes built years ago. It is awesome - rocking chairs, balconies, huge... More

My daughter and I spent two nights in the Fox cabin which is located in the main lodge. The rooms are situated on an upper level overlooking a giant stone fireplace which I believe had been built in the early 1900's. It was huge. There were old deer heads mounted on the walls and fireplace. It was beautiful. I really... More

Deerwoode is a classic. An old school camp from the 1920s that has been renovated (ever so gently) to accommodate couples and/or families. We stayed in the Coyote Lodge. The room was large and clean, rustic and quiet. And the Lodge itself is great. Large with wood paneled floors, walls, ceiling, a great stone fireplace, rocking chairs, and plenty of... More

Matt Mayes and his cabins are a gift!!! We drove to get out of the city for a night when our car broke down half way up the mountain. Matt picked us up and let us use his car for the night!!! What a place! We woke up in the morning and took a run on the properties trails that... More

We booked a stay here because of trip advisor reviews. And they were right on target. The place is rustic, clean, endearing, quiet, friendly . . . . The grounds and trails are fascinating, the owners extremely friendly, helpful, attentive to your requests, and full of quirky stories about this cabin or that cabin, this feature or that. It's very... More

This will be our second time, once in the Wolf and once in the Bear cabin. What a great place to relax, no kids, no pets, no worries. You can fish, walk, run or meditate. I can't say enough about the place. We love it, honestly. David and Pam

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Historic Deerwoode, 175 acres of green, sustainable, peaceful serenity and wildlife preserve along the banks of The French Broad River, one of the oldest rivers in the world. Once a summer camp built in 1923 and closed in 1991, Deerwoode has matured into a quiet retreat for adults only. Preserving the vintage, old hardwood structures, many unique old stone fireplaces, and all with lake, river and mountain views, makes Deerwoode a must stop when visiting WNC. Deerwoode is truly one of the most ecological and pretty places in North Carolina, and only two miles from downtown Brevard. ... more   less
