Friendly staff, lovely rooms ,short walk to the beach. The social hour and a glass of wine on the deck was sweet. It had a vintage beach cottage feel. Chris at the front desk was especially accommodating since I didn't have a reservation but found the place just by passing by it. I really enjoyed my stay.

Thank you for your review and for taking the time to mention Chris. I will make sure he sees this. I hope you can come back again and spend some time on the Outer Banks. We are open pretty much all year...closing for a few weeks in January/February. Thank you again.

Coming from Boston and not knowing the area, it was nice to have Trip Advisor guide us! First Colony Inn combines a first-class feel, with the charm of an historic inn. It is the perfect balance of clean and nice, with a rustic casual atmosphere. Chris and staff simply make you feel welcome and attend to the details of a...

I recently stayed here while participating in a photo workshop. This was my second stay and reconfirmed my view that this a special and rare find on the OBX where the relentless tide of new projects tend to wash away any signs of the Outer Banks past. Wonderful staff, excellent included breakfast, afternoon wine and dessert, spacious rooms and fast...

Our entire experience at the Inn was amazing but one of the BEST things about our stay was the bed, it was incredible!! We stayed in the George Howe Room connected to the Virginia Dare Library and it was just perfect, there was even a great collection of DVDs that could be checked out for a nice evening in. The...

The First Colony Inn exudes charm and ambience. When we arrived, Chris introduced us to the place and showed us which room was ours. The rooms are charming and have great character. Not at all like a standard motel room. Ours unfortunately had a problem with the toilet not flushing properly, but that was immediately handled -- by moving us...

Monday mornings are not my favorite but starting off by reading your review of First Colony Inn has made my day. Thank you. We really like what we do and are very proud of our little inn by the sea, and we love sharing that experience with visitors. Please come back as often as you can.

For our first time on the Outer Banks, we chose to stay at the First Colony Inn. Originally, this Inn was located on the beach (1932). After years of neglect and a potential developer threatening to tear it down, it was rescued, moved, and restored in the new location of 4 acres. The property is beautiful. We were there in...

This is a terrific place to spend a few nights on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The rooms are spotlessly clean. The bed was full size which was a little disappointing, but everything else was just what a vacation should be. The breakfast was above my expectations. Not like the chain hotels. The staff bend over backwards to assist...

This is what the Outer Banks is meant to be. Very comfortable. Friendly staff. Delicious food. History. Relaxing. Easy. The only minor thing is that the rooms are showing a bit of aging, so time for some appliance upgrades.

We've been coming to the First Colony for 20 years and always enjoy our stay.
