Small rooms but appear to have been recently remodeled. Twin beds only, one was very comfortable but the other was very hard. Could not access wifi with iPad but could with non Apple system. Worth the stay if only for one night. If staying for 2 nights I'd recommend their cabins.

Just wanted to clarify that all the beds in the Motel rooms, Cabins and Lodges are double (full) beds. The Pond Breeze Cabin the only one with twin beds. The Mattamuskeet Retreat has a king and one lodge has two twins. Not sure if they did not know the size of the beds or if they have us mixed up...

Visited here last week while waterfowl hunting at Lake Mattamuskeet. They have motel rooms, as well as, cabins. We chose one of the cabins located very near the entrance to the lake. Cabin was clean, well furnished and fully complimented with kitchen, bath, bedroom supplies, flat screen TV, heat & ac, comfortable beds and reasonably priced. Owner/Operator Lisa Carawan was...

There are not many options in this remote area to stay so this was one of the only options. However we really enjoyed our stay. The cabins are outdated and could use a good deep cleaning and some sprucing up. But they are adequate and comfortable. Price is good. Staff is great and helpful. The fishing in the area is...

Basic accommodations as expected. I had to boil water to wash dishes as the tap water was not hot enough due to the cold temperatures during my stay. Cabin is clean with some dust bunnies rolling around. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Everything needed for cooking was available, there were not many spoons for eating however. I had brought plastic...

The cabins are the place to stay while visiting Lake Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge. Perfect location for nature lovers and bird enthusiasts. Clean and nicely decorated. There are not many restuarants around (no fast food either), so we are glad we went prepared to cook. The only thing I would recommend would be to make sure to bring a hair...

Carawans was recommended to us for a visit to Lake Mattamuskeet, and we found in not only extremely clean and comfortable, but very convenient for visiting the refuge. It is basic. .. although they have other accommodations, the "hotel" section where we stayed had showers only, and if you expect a lot of extra details, this may not be for...

Visiting Lake Mattamuskeet and Swan Quarter has been on my bucket list for a long time, and now I wish I had come sooner.I visited during the early part of December 2013, the variety of birds and wildlife that were on and around the lake...

I've stayed here yearly for the past five years or so at least. It is a jumping off place to catch the early ferry from Swan Quarter to Ocracoke. The motel rooms are basic, but well-kept. There is wifi, cable/satellite TV. The owners live on site and are very accommodating. One year we limped on a bad tire and Lisa Carawan...

My partner and I stayed in the Pond Breeze Cabin for 3 nights. The cabin was cute and very clean. We were greeted by Lisa the day we checked in. Our cabin faces a pretty pond outlined with trees and only 20 ft from our rocking chairs on the front porch. If you want quiet, this place has it abundance....

My family and I spent a single night at the Carawan's Motel in order to catch the first ferry in the morning. Given the sparsity of motels in the vicinity of Swanquarter, let alone information about them, I just wanted to share our experience. The motel is located adjacent to the Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge and is definitely geared towards...
