Firstly, I want to say a huge thank you to Tony, he was very welcoming and made us feel right at home straight away. We usually stay in hotels but trying to save a few pennies we tried his home stay and out of the 5 places we have stayed in Penang, I can comfortably say his place was the best! The value for money is amazing, it’s situated in a very quiet area, the rooms are a decent size with a good bed, mirror and dressing table. The mosquito nets stop all the bugs and the fan worked great. The communal areas are well equipped with cold drinking water, a washing machine and cooking apparatus. There’s plenty of seats to chill under the fans and a great view of the landscape. There’s even a shelter with lots of bikes to choose from which are all free to use, sure they might be a bit rusty and old but they work perfectly fine and it’s much quicker than walking! The WiFi is brand new and is very fast, we watched lots of Netflix and used FaceTime in the evenings with no issues. I’d say the only improvements would be A/C in the rooms, but for RM50 a night, we really couldn’t complain! The toilets might be a bit close with nature, but that’s all part of it right? In summary, me and my partner stayed for 7 nights and might even be back sooner than expected! The atmosphere from Tony and all of the guests, along with the relaxing area and only a 5/10 minute walk to the supermarket and food area, we think you can’t beat Tony’s Guesthouse! To top it off, he even dropped us off to the nearest bus station so we didn’t have to walk with our heavy backpacks in the hot sun! Thank you Tony.

We selected a two night stay here because of the rave reviews on booking.com. First impressions seemed quiet and idyllic. We were seriously considering extending our stay… glad we didn’t! Rooms are basic and beds are not comfortable.the bed covers are scratchy. No soundproofing can hear every creak and voice. WiFi barely works. Very slow and erratic. The free bicycles are rusty and poorly maintained. I didn’t feel safe using then. The roads aren’t ideal for cycling long distance to town. Location remote. 25 minute walk to bus stop as nearest stop is out of service, then another 15 mins on the bus to get to shops and restaurants. Not much in the local village of interest or to eat. Escape theme park nearby. Two bathrooms for 18 rooms! Only one shower worked. No hot water. Bathrooms dirty, hair in plug holes and buckets of filthy water sitting around attracting mosquitoes!! Despite all of above we weren’t put off because we enjoyed the scenic nature and adventure of it. In general this is more like a hostel than a guest house. Most occupants were young adults. We were given a room next to the communal lounge and kitchen area. ( in hindsight not the best for an older couple) Some residents decided to have a gathering/party into the wee hours, keeping us awake. Tried to ask Tony for a room change the following morning but he seemed in a bad mood and wouldn’t even offer a greeting. So I set a friendly request via WhatsApp which was seen but not responded to. There were other rooms available so no excuse for poor customer service. After several hours of waiting we decided to leave. Tony cancelled our booking on booking.com so we couldn’t leave a review! Any positives have now been outweighed by

We are a couple and we book the place for one week to be quiet of the noise of the city. We left after three days because our skin was very itchy and red spots. After the visit to the pharmacy, they told us it was bedbugs so we decide to get out of Tony's house immediatly. We ask a refund for 4 nights for that bad situation but the owner didn't want to give our money back. He accused us to be scam travelers to avoid reimbursement which we aren't. We came back with the proof paper of the pharmacy, however he was not agree with that paper so we pay for the nights that we were not there. We felt very uncomfortable and incomprehensive situation. Be careful with that place.

It’s a bit basic, with old beds and toilets which are a bit open to the elements. But if you look past these things, you will see it’s charm. Tony is really nice, and had an equally nice friend staying with him at the time we stayed. There are loads of fruit trees in the area, and Tony quite often gave us bananas and coconuts. There is a kitchen you can use to cook, which was decent and actually is rare in South East Asia. At breakfast you can watch the monkeys in the trees. It’s way out of Georgetown in a village where all the locals say hello to you. It was close to ‘escape’ the adventure park which is so much fun, the National Park which is nice and the spice garden which was meant to be lovely (although we didn’t get a chance to visit). The bus into Georgetown is regular, cheap and good. We really enjoyed our stay at Tony’s :-)

After reading all of the positive reviews on Google, TripAdvisor and Booking.com, we were very excited to stay at Tony's Guesthouse. We booked for three nights, but in the end we left after one. We are very sorry to write a negative review, but our experience didn't match the positive ratings at all. But as guests rely on reviews and we had a frustrating experience, we felt the need to write about this guesthouse. Here are our reasons why we rated our stay with „poor": -The guesthouse is at least 1km from the nearest restaurant and 3km from the next decent one. You need bicycles to go everywhere, apart from Escape Theme Park. When we arrived, there were only two very rusty and unstable bicycles left and no opportunity to rent good ones. We don't need free bikes and we don't need new bikes - we just need bikes that are safe to ride; those we received at Tony’s weren’t. The brakes didn’t work, the chains were completely rusty and the bikes made loud cracking noises. We have traveled quite a bit in SEA and have never seen bikes in such poor and dangerous condition. We would like to mention that Tony made the effort and went to the mechanic to have other bikes repaired, what we greatly appreciate. Sadly, the mechanic in Teluk Bahang isn't well-trained as he put on a tire that doesn't fit the rim, which is downright dangerous. -The reviews said that breakfast is tasty and versatile. In the morning we were only served sea food noodles without being asked about our preferences. Out of the six guests staying at the guest house at the time, four were vegetarian. A lot of food went to waste, which was completely unnecessary. There was nothing else to eat, apart from Rambutan fruit. And there wasn’t even milk (powder) for the coffee. - The wifi didn’t work during our entire stay. As there are hardly restaurants and supermarkets near by, you really need a bit of wifi to find something to eat. Tony told us that the guests watching the World Cup used up all the data so there was none left. However, the last World Cup game was 5 days before we arrived. We would have appreciated if he had used the time to top-up the data. Even after we kindly asked him to do so, it took him more than a day to do so. By the time the wifi supposedly worked again, we had left. Positive: + Clean rooms + Clean bathrooms + Pick-up from the bus station

This is definitely something you should do! Tony is super friendly, you get water when you arrive, fruit, there is coffee everyday. It is very close to the Penang national park, you can use bikes from tony to get there(it is like a 5 minute bike ride). The rooms are superclean, just as the bathroom and the toilet. When you rent a scooter you can get to Georgeton easily but still enjoy the quitness at Tony’s place! Would surely go back!!

We are two French travelers, and we stayed there for two days and really enjoyed our stay! Tony is really nice, he went to pick up us at the bus stop, offered us loads of fruits from his garden. Bicycles were free to use, so it was very convenient to visit the area. Breakfast was offered and was good : toasts / fruits / tea coffee / muesli ... / very good noodles The guesthouse was very clean and comfortable. We felt like home. So we highly recommend this place to you ! Enjoy your stay !!!

We really enjoyed our stay at Tony's. The rooms are clean, you get towels & water when you arrive. Tony is a really nice and caring host. He picked us up from the bus stop when we arrived & took us back there when we were leaving. The breakfast is really good too - he always brings fresh food from the village. His place has a great atmosphere, you can sit outside, enjoy one of the coconuts from Tony's garden & listen to the sounds of nature. If you want a nice place to stay near to the national park Tony's is the way to go 😊
