We are a couple and we book the place for one week to be quiet of the noise of the city. We left after three days because our skin was very itchy and red spots. After the visit to the pharmacy, they told us it was bedbugs so we decide to get out of Tony's house immediatly. We ask a refund for 4 nights for that bad situation but the owner didn't want to give our money back. He accused us to be scam travelers to avoid reimbursement which we aren't. We came back with the proof paper of the pharmacy, however he was not agree with that paper so we pay for the nights that we were not there. We felt very uncomfortable and incomprehensive situation. Be careful with that place.
It’s a bit basic, with old beds and toilets which are a bit open to the elements. But if you look past these things, you will see it’s charm. Tony is really nice, and had an equally nice friend staying with him at the time we stayed. There are loads of fruit trees in the area, and Tony quite often gave us bananas and coconuts. There is a kitchen you can use to cook, which was decent and actually is rare in South East Asia. At breakfast you can watch the monkeys in the trees. It’s way out of Georgetown in a village where all the locals say hello to you. It was close to ‘escape’ the adventure park which is so much fun, the National Park which is nice and the spice garden which was meant to be lovely (although we didn’t get a chance to visit). The bus into Georgetown is regular, cheap and good. We really enjoyed our stay at Tony’s :-) …
Very quiet place, away from the main road. Tony was very nice helpful man . Drop us before 6 am on the bus stop on the last day. Real nature around the house. Tony welcome us with some coconuts, rambutan .Also bicycle awailble for guests.
After reading all of the positive reviews on Google, TripAdvisor and Booking.com, we were very excited to stay at Tony's Guesthouse. We booked for three nights, but in the end we left after one. We are very sorry to write a negative review, but our experience didn't match the positive ratings at all. But as guests rely on reviews and we had a frustrating experience, we felt the need to write about this guesthouse. Here are our reasons why we rated our stay with „poor": -The guesthouse is at least 1km from the nearest restaurant and 3km from the next decent one. You need bicycles to go everywhere, apart from Escape Theme Park. When we arrived, there were only two very rusty and unstable bicycles left and no opportunity to rent good ones. We don't need free bikes and we don't need new bikes - we just need bikes that are safe to ride; those we received at Tony’s weren’t. The brakes didn’t work, the chains were completely rusty and the bikes made loud cracking noises. We have traveled quite a bit in SEA and have never seen bikes in such poor and dangerous condition. We would like to mention that Tony made the effort and went to the mechanic to have other bikes repaired, what we greatly appreciate. Sadly, the mechanic in Teluk Bahang isn't well-trained as he put on a tire that doesn't fit the rim, which is downright dangerous. -The reviews said that breakfast is tasty and versatile. In the morning we were only served sea food noodles without being asked about our preferences. Out of the six guests staying at the guest house at the time, four were vegetarian. A lot of food went to waste, which was completely unnecessary. There was nothing else to eat, apart from Rambutan fruit. And there wasn’t even milk (powder) for the coffee. - The wifi didn’t work during our entire stay. As there are hardly restaurants and supermarkets near by, you really need a bit of wifi to find something to eat. Tony told us that the guests watching the World Cup used up all the data so there was none left. However, the last World Cup game was 5 days before we arrived. We would have appreciated if he had used the time to top-up the data. Even after we kindly asked him to do so, it took him more than a day to do so. By the time the wifi supposedly worked again, we had left. Positive: + Clean rooms + Clean bathrooms + Pick-up from the bus station…
This is definitely something you should do! Tony is super friendly, you get water when you arrive, fruit, there is coffee everyday. It is very close to the Penang national park, you can use bikes from tony to get there(it is like a 5 minute bike ride). The rooms are superclean, just as the bathroom and the toilet. When you rent a scooter you can get to Georgeton easily but still enjoy the quitness at Tony’s place! Would surely go back!!
