Detailed Reviews
After reading older reviews I was wondering if I had made a big mistake booking here. My fear was unfounded. The new owners met have given it some new life. There were a lot of young families, I was quiet in the evening, no parties, the bathrooms could use a little more help, a fresh coat of paint has improved them but the cleaning was marginal, especially during Covid, once a day is not enough. The fixtures were cleaned well, but the doors obviously had not been done for several days.

Upon first arriving at our site we were very impressed. Many of the sites have plenty of shade and privacy providing trees. Very similar to a BC provincial park, however after a short period of time we started to smell horrible sewage smell. We had hoped it would go away by the next day. It wasn't constant but it happened every day, I'm not sure if it was when the wind was in a certain direction or if our site was just located close to some type of septic field. We were on the forested side close to the kids playground.
My kids loved the playground facilities, there is a great zipline and some climbing equipment, swings, slide, teeter todder and a merry go round. They also have tether ball, a basketball hoop and a volleyball/badminton net. The kids loved playing at the park, the playground area alone makes this campground worth it. They also have an arcade with retro arcade machines for .50 to 1.00 per play. The kids loved that too. Since it was September we didn't swim in the lake but the kids both enjoyed swimming in the heated pool and hot tub. There is a small changing area and one shower in each men's and women's room beside the pool.
Aside from the smell that was bothersome the only other issue that we experienced was with the power supply to our full service site. We have a surge protector that monitors the level of power and shuts out off our power to the source if it gets too high or too low. The service at our site (13) repeatedly dropped too low and our microwave etc would shut down when we switched from shore power to battery. This is obviously not ideal.
Despite the power and the smell issues we are totally willing to give this place another shot - we will come back to an area of the campground that doesn't have sewer though, so that we can hopefully avoid the smell. Overall I would say this is a 4 star place - and hope that the next time our experience is a lot less smelly. When I inquired about the smell with the office the woman said it was from folks checking out, but that doesn't explain why the smell would still be around at 11pm. So I'm just not sure... But hopefully we can avoid the smell in non sewer areas.

My family recently spent 2 days in Campsite 3 at Cooms Country Campground. We throughly enjoyed the spaciousness of the site and the campsites were impeccably clean and groomed.
The bathroom and showers were also impeccable.
Sadly the pool, hot tub and arcade weren't open at the time we were there, and "the lake" didn’t look very appealing for swimming.
The grounds were very nice, walking or sitting lakeside was pleasurable.

we had planned on staying here but the BC travel restrictions were were not able too. we provided them with a deposit but when we had to cancel due to the BC travel restrictions we called them to cancel but never heard back from them on the deposit. We will not be staying here and will be letting our friends know not to stay as well.

We were a group of five to six senior couples reserving after the long weekend. As we had not been there before we didn’t know what to expect. We reserved a single site as you had to reserve any double sites with a partner. Sadly all the nice sunny sites close to the rest of our group were all double sites. As some were coming for a week, some two nights, or 4 nights we couldn’t book those sunny sites…which sat empty for the whole time we were there. When we spoke to the office ..for the “next time” …that was the policy …was the answer..The pool was being cleaned when we got there but definitely did not look cleaned after the fact. Lake area was very nice.
I’m not sure if our “group” would return there for our next annual fall getaway unless the booking policy is changed for the off season. As nice as our site was, being away from the rest of the group in the all day shaded area wasn’t the greatest.

We love the location, great bicycle riding, walking, close to many golf courses and excellent restaurants. The little lake just makes you feel tranquil and you also have the pool and hot tub area to relax in. The property is well maintained and washrooms and showers very clean.

I have to preface this review by saying I’m used to BC Parks campgrounds, so lots of privacy. We stayed here for 10 days and here are my thoughts:
Avoid site 20! You can reach out and touch your neighbor, and it’s really awkward. We avoided sitting outside in the evening because we were either staring into a tent or at the side wall of a trailer. No room to put our propane fire pit out and our awning was less than a foot from a tree.
The pool remains closed, though provincial COVID restrictions have been relaxed.
The lake is very murky - you can’t see your own feet. This sketched me out but didn’t seem to bother anyone else.
The laundry, washrooms and showers were in excellent condition and always clean.
Location is nice as you’re close to Parksville and Qualicum

I took my 10 year old tent camping this past weekend at Coombs Campground and we loved it. Our tent site was right by the little lake and it was a hit. We really enjoyed our time there - everyone was friendly, lots of families and it was peaceful. We highly recommend!

STOP!!!
The absolute worst camping ever.
New managment, no wifi, bathrooms filthy, sights dirty, no garbage pick up and if that's not enough be very careful you dont rip the undercarriage of you trailer or car out. Pot holes are so big you need a 4x4 truck to go thru. Also good luck trying to make a reservation as they now dont answer or return phone call for booking.
Stay away. Campers beware!!!

Response from Emily C, Front Office Manager at Coombs Country Campground & R.V. Park
Responded 11 Jul 2019
Hello, As your review states you camped here in April or before. We are technically closed in April and still allowed you to book and stay with us. We do not own the campground and therefore were not permitted to do any work before May of 2019...which explains the potholes in the road and lack of garbage pickup. We are now open and encourage you to come back and see our beautifully landscaped and maintained campground. Our washrooms are cleaned professionally every evening by a local Eco-Friendly cleaning company. Our garbages are picked up twice a day. Our wifi is strung through trees and during bad weather it can cut out here and there. Again, we were not open before May of this year and we got back to everyone through email or phone as soon as we were able. We are sorry you had a bad experience and look forward to rectify your bad experience.
