W Punta de Mita garners approval for its luxurious amenities, such as the lavish pools and high-quality dining options, although some guests have encountered service glitches. The hotel's cleanliness receives accolades, with travelers noting the immaculate conditions of rooms and common areas. However, opinions on value diverge, with many feeling that the costs outweigh the benefits provided.
Room experiences vary, with some guests enjoying spacious elegance and others disappointed by maintenance issues. While the vibrant pool atmosphere is a hit for some, it's a miss for others seeking tranquility. Service quality is generally high, marked by attentive staff, yet some inconsistencies have been reported.

Detailed Reviews
We were super stoked about our stay especially after Covid. Everyone was very friendly when we arrived, but we were almost forgotten about once we were seated waiting to schedule our covid test. Fortunately, our friends that we were traveling with alerted the concierge they were working with and she got us scheduled and was supposed to order a car to take us to our room. Again, we got lost in the shuffle and we finally decided to figure out where it was on our own. Halfway through our hike someone picked us up and dropped us off and arranged for our luggage to get dropped off. The guys were excited to get out there to surf the swell that was in only to discover that the "surf shop" that I was told about was just a guy at a desk with a bunch of cheap soft top boards. They rented those, although extremely disappointed. Despite a local shop falling through on delivery, they got their hands on real boards and had a great time. Us girls, however were stuck with the lousy soft top boards. We would have made other arrangements had we known the circumstances.
The food was delicious , but after dining at Spice one night and being charged $11 for water (which no one told us and they just kept pouring), we quickly began carrying our own water and going off site to eat. The saxophone player our last night absolutely made our trip. We decided to finish our last night with tequila and churros at one of the restaurants and he started playing. He was incredible! My friend's husband joked about Kenny G and he launched right into the best rendition of Careless Whisper.
We also discovered later in the trip that we could have been using cheaper taxis and had been paying for the more expensive resort ones, so don't be afraid to ask for the non-resort taxis. I had also mentioned that it was our anniversary before coming and other than a "Happy Anniversary" upon arrival, I was a little disappointed that nothing was done. Our housekeeping was also less than desirable. They told us to call before we left the room, but it was always cleaned at random times and we were always having to ask them to come back. We had to call for washcloths every day because they only gave them to us the first day and there was sand in our bed every night, confirming that our sheets weren't being changed. I had a ring (not expensive, just sentimental) that went missing (probably fell and was swept up by accident) and my husband's watch was also broken on our last night. (A report was filed, but we weren't fully satisfied with the results). Overall, we had a great vacation and might be back another year, but there were things that left us underwhelmed.
Final notes: don't order the glass bottled water unless you like paying $11 per bottle; Surfers should arrange for boards to be delivered or bring your own; order the non resort taxis because it shouldn't cost $70 to go to Sayulita one way; don't forget to call when you leave your room to avoid embarrassing housekeeping situations.

We stayed for 8 nights at this hotel. It is located nearby Punta de Mita, in a very nice area. We visited during the COVID pandemic, and we were very happily surprised about the cleaning levels they have here. All the employees were smearing masks all the time. The restaurants were impecable. They only clean your room when you are not inside, and if you wish they can come to clean only the days/times when you ask them. We ordered room service once, and they brought the food to our door, but the guy told me he is not allowed to come in while the guests are at the room, so I took the food myself inside the room. Overall a very positive experience in such times.
The hotel has nice restaurants, I have also posted reviews about them separately.
It has 2 pools, one of them being adults only which has some transparent walls.
The hotel has some “Huichol” art, and has a nice decor.
Finally, the service was great. We don’t have any single complaint about anyone. Everyone did their best to keep us happy.
We truly appreciate the efforts, and the very good work done, si that we could experience this wonderful vacations. A highly recommended stay!

I stayed at W Punta Mita for 4 days and 3 nights. Upon arrival our temperature was taken and we were offered masks and hand sanitizers. Annie at check-in was sweet and kind! Our suite with the pool was perfect for what we wanted: to relax and chill out! The retractable doors was a nice touch to enjoy the sound of the beach waves. Nespreso was provided in the room as well as nice amenities and a comfortable soft bed with 4 pillows! All of the hotel restaurants have outdoor seating; the tables are spaced apart; and all of the staff wore masks. We were offered pumps of hand sanitizer before entering every restaurant. We ate at Venazu the first night, Spice Market the second night and reserved the beach table, “When the sun goes down” for the last night. Spice Market was my favorite food- try the drunken noodles or the Korean fried chicken bun! The dinner on the beach was absolutely gorgeous and delicious!! My fish was perfectly cooked and my friend said her lamb was delicious. The cabanas on the beach were 6 ft apart. Service was a bit slow to the beach, so I just ordered my drinks at the bar behind our cabana. We enjoyed the free scooters and used them for our morning exercise on the property. Kudos to the landscapers and the architect. The grounds are nicely maintained. Alex & Michael at the restaurants were an absolute pleasure. Javier was the sweetest, funniest driver! I have no complaints and would definitely return!

We had a great overall experience from the moment we got on the property. Punta De Mita is a really small remote area of Nayarit Mexico, and the W is nestled quaintly, on an amazing piece of coast inside. What we loved was the decor, the greenery, the feeling of seclusion but mostly the employees and the FOOD! As pretty as this place is, it is nothing without the hospitality of the amazingly well mannered and friendly staff. They truly made a memorable experience. After a few days you begin to feel as if you've been visiting for weeks and everyone knows who you are. And the food? OMG, the food is absolutely impeccable. Without exaggeration, some of the best seafood I have ever had and definitely the best Shrimp I ever had hands down.
Collectively, they have 4 eateries on location with a special, different "pop-up" grill each night. Those pop-up grills is where we had a seafood medley that changed our lives. They have a Ceviche bar! Best Ceviche of our lives too! This place is a VIBE! I undoubtedly would go again and hope to as well one day.
A very special thank you to Sebastian, Peycha, Six, Karla, Abraham, David, & Jasiel! You guys rock and without you lot, our experience would have been simply mediocre. It was because of you all, our trip was so special.

We have stayed at this hotel every December since it opened but unfortunately will not be doing so anymore because of these few issues. We last visited in December 2018 (I know, late review)and were very disappointed that we were charged an extra $90 per night for our 12 year old son. This had not happened to us before and they informed us that was because our son had turned 12 and was now considered an extra ‘adult.’ My second major problem is that you have to use your ‘suite reward nights’ to get an upgrade, even if your Platinum and there are suites available. We had once arrived without using them and were only offered suites if we paid extra, which was off-putting to us due to the fact that as a Platinum Elite member we should be upgraded based on if a suite is available or not. The third major issue I have is that you are required to use their taxi service and it is outrageously expensive. To drive to Sayulita (approx. 15 miles away) is roughly $100 bucks so you are stuck there to eat all your meals. There are 2 main restaurants and the food got boring and expensive. The positive is that it feels very safe, beach is semi private, nice kids club, beautiful room if you utilize your suite reward nights and the scooters are fun but can be dangerous for kids. If you can afford it, the St. Regis down the street is beyond amazing, more catering to families and recognizes Platinum elite status.

The resort is located 45 minutes from the airport. Beautifully setting in the jungle right on the Pacific Ocean. They follow Covid guidelines and are very accommodating and gracious to have visitors. There are restaurants onsite and are at the Midpoint to downtown Punta de Mita, Sayulita, Bucerías and Puerto Vallarta. There are 2 pools, one for adults only and hot tub and also the Away Spa, which is outstanding (hair salon nail salon sauna, steam room, fitness center, hot & cold hot tub & a waterfall pool). Service is impeccable & best staff ever. For this area it is best to have transportation for excursions & site seeing of the various nearby towns.

I was so excited to stay at this hotel. We stayed at the Presidential Suite expecting the top of the line for everything. I will say the concierge and spa teams were great. They set us up for all our reservations before we got here and that was lovely. The front desk is spotty at best.
I asked for three consecutive days of our five day stay for our toilet room to be clean. The toilet smelled very bad and I asked over and over and was assured it would be cleaned. After three consecutive days of asking the front desk, I finally called zero and waited for housekeeping who brought cleaning supplies. What I noticed is they have a small spray bottle instead of any bucket or Mop to clean a floor, so there’s no wonder the bathrooms aren’t being cleaned thoroughly. Very disappointing for a 5 star resort at the most expensive suite at full price.
As to the front desk. I asked for transport to the airport and had to come back twice to confirm it because it wasn’t done the first time. Same with my COVID test, I asked for the paperwork and they sent me downstairs without it just to find out I needed to go back up again to fill it out when I literally went to the front desk to ask for it and was sent down.
It’s things like this that made it feel not worth the amount we paid. Rooms are also not 5 star standard, simple sheets and towels and not top of the line finishes and fit. They left the dirty towels and sheets outside of our room door in bags for two days which was curious to come back to each day.
I think it’s a solid 4 star resort with 3 star service for the rooms and front desk and 5 star restaurant, spa, and concierge.
The saving grace was the food and food service, which was exceptional.

5 star resort and staff! Highly recommend!!
This review is long overdue! Saturday our family returns to on of the most beautiful & relaxing places in the world, Punta de Mita! It will be our 8th consecutive year visit to paradise and forth stay at the W.
Without the W has one the best beaches in Mexico. Endless smooth sand with pristine ocean water is what makes the W stand apart from the other resorts. The service is unobtrusive but always at bay. Usually we split our yearly visits 5 nights at the St. Regis and 5 nights at the W. I still recommend to anyone who has not yet visited Punta Mita to do this. The first summer the resort was opened we met Alejandro Montes De Oca (Alex), who at the time was manager of the pool/activities for the resort and is now the F&B manager. He is very professional and has gone above and beyond his duties to accommodate us. He is on the right path to become a great GM in the future.
Jasel Villa is the man to know at the pool! Fabulous drinks & food are suggested with energetic enthusiasm and do not disappoint. Ricardo Suarez has handled our reservation and bookings with exceptional precision and communication. The property and rooms are super clean considering that the resort is situated between the beach and the jungle this is no easy task. We are looking forward to seeing all of you on Saturday!
Best,
Ali & Melissa

Puerto Vallarta: the playground of the rich and famous in this part of the world. Picture blonde, suntanned, and drop-dead thingies stretched out in rows upon rows on unending sandy beaches… while hotel service folks ply them with food and drink in unflagging streams. Well, this wasn’t it..!! (But pretty close.)
We bought a flight+hotel package out of Mexico City to this west coast beach resort, and the hotel was their choice: but it wasn’t bad as hotels go. Initially, there was some confusion on our booking, as we seemed to be headed to a much better property, but it was our mistake. (….got quickly sorted out with a phone call at arrival on the wrong property.)
This property, though, is gorgeous… so I wasn’t complaining. One arrives at the entrance off a long driveway off the highway, past a huge “W” sign that we somehow failed to see at first, down a densely forested hillside road, to an entrance gatehouse where you are separated from your car, and driven down by electric buggy to the reception building, and thence to your cabin. There is a central building, with restaurants, offices and miscellaneous facilities, which forms the spine of the resort, running down a hill towards a pool and thence onto a beautifully sandy, shallow beach. Idyllic. And then to each side of this central space, there are rooms and cabins scattered across the hillside, around a central garden / water pools / lawn that is used for weddings, parties and other functions (there seemed to be some kind of seminar on the day we arrived…) stepping down in a series of levels from the upper hillsides to the beach below.
The rooms are spectacular: each separate unit is beautifully designed. The units are arranged as a stand-alone space, with a central bed, behind which is a fully glass-enclosed bathroom space. The bath has screens for visual privacy in the night, but one can’t see into them from the outside in the daylight hours ~ just basic physics !! On the side opposite the bed, the unit opens onto a balcony overlooking a forested thicket: this is the Spectacular Jungle Escape cabin, and one quite feels like in the middle of the jungle here.
The property has concrete walkways connecting all the public spaces and private units, and leading down to the beach. To get outside the resort, one has only to ask for the buggy to be taken up to where cars are parked, at the entrance gate. Its all very well organized and well planned. The staff are very polite, and take great care to dim the lights on their buggies if they are approaching you in the dark. Nice care and attention to detail. Thank you.
Well worth the visit, and as part of the price of the air ticket from Mexico City, this was a bargain not to be missed.

Room Tip: Try for a room overlooking the beach. If not, the jungle retreat rooms are great.

+1
I travel quite frequently for work and the W Punta de Mita was without a doubt the best run hotel, we’ve ever stayed. From the moment you arrive at the gate, the service and friendliness of the staff is impeccable. When you arrive at the Mobile Check In, you are quickly greeted with a smile, luggage unloaded and taken to your room and a quick golf cart ride to the lobby. If you ever need to be somewhere, 1 phone call and minutes later you are picked up in a cart and where you need to be. The pool was fantastic with upbeat music always played. I can’t pick out a particular staff member because they were all fantastic. Food was phenomenal and on weekend evenings they seemed to always have some type of themed dinner. I can’t say enough good things about the staff and the property. If I could nitpick one thing, it would be nice to have a restaurant on the main lobby level where they have a meeting space because it could provide a great late night sunset view for dinner. As well thought out as the property is, I’m sure there is a reason it’s not there.

Do NOT use the hotel service - exorbitant price. Just search on the forum for a reputable car service. Or take the risk and rent a car - although that always tends to be a hassle in Mexico.
Hi! Yes.
We have surf classes at the hotel at an additional cost, and an external company teaches them.
In June, the waves are soft, it is ideal for surfing!
See you at W Punta de Mita!
