This hotel had exactly the chill vibe we were looking for when booking our trip to Mexico. The rooms are spacious and clean, the beds very comfortable. The view to the sea is lovely, and there was always a nice breeze coming through. The outdoor lounging areas including the roof top deck were a nice surprise and we definitely made use of them! We loved that we could come and go any time with the rental surf boards from the convenient garage below. The little town has some fantastic restaurants and shops. If you love this part of Mexico but not the intensity of Sayulita or the plasticky resorts, this is for you! We would absolutely come back again!

Staying at La Quinta del Sol was one of the best decisions we made when booking our Punta de Mita trip. We traveled with our 2-year old son and were welcomed and taken care of by Nico, Maria and the wonderful/always smiling/ever helpful daily housekeeper (didn't catch her name... she's a real gem though). The property is in the best location in town- step out your door to evaluate the surf and grab a board from the garage. Beach chairs provided, sand toys, SUP boards, etc. All at easy access and in good repair. The views and breeze were amazing from the second floor. Super clean rooms with full-ish kitchens were such an asset. We cooked breakfast daily and were in a great location in town for quiet, less touristy dinners. Don't hesitate in staying here!!

Located in a quiet part of town, just a few minutes walk from restaurants and shops, this hotel should be your top choice for a mid-range stay. The rooms are well appointed and each unit has a kitchen with cookware and utensils. There is an amazing rooftop and a private beach area for relaxing. The hotel can rent out surfbaords and paddleboards, and even arrange for a lesson. The best part of the hotel are the managers Nico and Mary, who provide you with all of their insider tips on day trips and the best places to eat. I can't recommend this hotel enough!

We checked in late February for a prepaid 5 night stay but left after one night. Cannot understand the 5 star ratings on TripAdviser. Room was very tired with only a curtain between bathroom and the rest of the place. Request to put all dirty toilet paper in a trash bin next to the toilet! What? The ‘beach club’ is a small roped off area with a few plastic lounge chairs that also looked very tired. Nearby was a large portable speaker on the beach blasting toward the hotel. I’ve traveled extensively in 3rd world countries so have a pretty good sense of situational awareness and walking home at night from a nearby row of restaurants felt unsafe and sketchy (and freaked out my wife). We were warned on checking in to keep our back curtains drawn at night on the barred windows so as not to draw attention to ourselves. Also warned about carefully locking the gate. The managers of the hotel seemed nice but I definitely wouldn’t recommend.

Dear R&V, The experience you describe is so much different than that reported by the vast majority of our guests that I'm not sure where to begin. We certainly respect your opinion and deeply regret that your visit with us was so disappointing. And while we completely appreciate your extensive travel experience and informed point of reference, we must come to the defense of the over 300 guests who have reported a far different experience and have paved the way to our years of award winning reputation. We believe it is inappropriate to discount or invalidate their reviews on the presumption that their opinions are somehow less worthy. I have personally known hundreds of guests - many of whom have dazzled me with their travel history - making mine paltry by comparison. Many of these seasoned travelers have shared their ideas with us, enabling us to continuously improve everything we offer. I appreciate the opportunity to address some of your specific comments so as to paint as accurate a picture as possible, and help potential guests make informed decisions.: 1. Saying, "Cannot understand the 5 star ratings” threatens the very integrity of the pages you are reading. Why choose only to pay attention to the bad and not the good? Why pay attention to this one and not the other one? My suggestion is to believe everything - to a point - and consider the total picture (this applies to our establishment and all establishments). One persons opinion could reflect yours - or not.....we all have different needs, expectations, budgets, likes and dislikes. 2. Bathroom curtain. This is something that is very common in hotels in the area. Some people do not like it while others have no problem with it. A drape adds softness, which is especially nice in a bathroom where there are lots of cold, hard surfaces. Either way, it is clearly shown in the photographs on Tripadvisor and on our website. 3. Trash can for toilet paper. Most plumbing in this rural Mexican town was built is such a way that toilets generally do not create enough velocity to avoid clogs in the sewage lines. Thus, the best way to avoid clogs (and the inconveniences to our guests) is to toss the toilet paper in the bin. Part of our daily housekeeping is emptying this trash bin. 4. Beach Club. Our lounge chairs, hammocks and umbrellas do take a beating from heavy use, the sunny days and the salty air. This is why we update them every season. Since all beaches in Mexico are public lands, we have no control as to what music people might be playing in front of the beach club. Thankfully this is rarely an issue for our guests, although the beach can get lively on Sundays with Mexican families, as you experienced. Most of our guests enjoy the opportunity of seeing the locals at play rather than missing out by hiding behind the gates of an all-inclusive resort. 5. Safety. Looking through your reviews for other properties around the world, I get the sense that your idea of extensive travel in “3rd world countries” is going from one all-inclusive 5-star resort to the next. Clearly, we are not that type of establishment nor do we pretend to be. Punta de Mita is a real fishing village with beautiful beaches and great surf. It is a great place to relax and safe to walk at all hours. Real Mexicans live in this town, and although there have been zero incidences of violent crime since we have been living here, it is livelier than what you might have experienced inside the quiet confines a gated community. La Quinta del Sol is a small seaside hotel within walking distance of phenomenal Mexican restaurants. Our hotel has an intimate feel with just 7 rooms. All of our rooms come with a fully equipped kitchen, wifi, air conditioning, and an ocean view from the spacious terraces. We also have a rooftop terrace with and a beach club directly in front of the hotel with lounge chairs, umbrellas and hammocks. We distinguish ourselves by offering great service and of course on-site managers who as you noticed “seemed nice”. We have great pride here at La Quinta del Sol. We try to be very adept at learning from our shortcomings. We encourage guests to help us improve. It is part of why we have earned the reputation we have. We hope that you had the opportunity to enjoy your valuable time elsewhere after bailing out of this town. Saludos, Nico & Mary

This hotel is amazing!!! The owners, Nico & Mary, are perfect hosts. They have everything you need available, and are there to help anytime, but make sure to give you all the space you want as well. They have great comfortable rooms with a full kitchen. The roof top area has an amazing view with hammocks and chairs and a bar area if you want to hangout up there as well! They offer lounge chairs and hammocks right at the beach too. The hotel is also very close to local shops and great restaurants! Perfect place to stay for an amazing price!

Just got back from a week at La Quinta del Sol with Nikki and Mary. They are superb hosts— attentive, friendly, open and accessible to guests. The hotel is steps away from the beach and close to stores, restaurants and the harbor—in case you want to rent a boat for a few hours. They are helpful in ensuring your travel to and from the airport is set up and they are just really sweet people. I would definitely stay there again.

So here's the deal: we traveled to Punta Mita for Christmas.

Hotel La Quinta del Sol was the PERFECT escape. Everything felt very safe and clean. Everyone wore masks in public spaces. We made a stop the grocery on the way in and cooked almost all of our meals in our adorable kitchen. The room was cozy and cute, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves could not be beat!

Nico and Mary were amazing, and took care of all of our needs! They even rented us surf boards for the week. What a luxury to be able to grab your board at any hour and walk down the the beach for a paddle out. We were just thrilled. The break out front was the perfect wave for us, and we found that we were in need of absolutely nothing else while we were there!

We also should add that we very much enjoyed the tequila they sold from the local distillery AND my husband went crazy over the local cheese that he bought from the cheese truck that stopped by one afternoon.

We loved watching the sun set with a few cocktails from the roof top deck.

We will absolutely return. We look forward to coming back soon to check out local restaurants and do some other sight seeing once it feels safe to do so. In the meantime, I cannot recommend Hotel Quinta del Sol enough.

Dear Annie and Gill, Thank you. Thank you for this excellent review. After several lonely months of holding our breaths along with everyone else in the tourism industry, I cannot accurately describe the sense of relief it gives us to read your kind words. We are thankful that you chose to spend your holidays with us and we are thrilled that you and your husband found the peace and relaxation you sought (plus some fun waves). We hope that you guys will make good on your promise to return one day soon. Muchas gracias. Saludos, Nico and Mary

My husband surpised me with this trip for our anniversary. He was able to arrange a driver from the airport and a stop at a grocery store on our way to the hotel, with Nico and Mary's help. When we arrived at our room there was a bottle of sparkling wine and a dozen roses waiting as well (again with the help of our hosts). We stayed in a room with a queen sized bed and kitchenette and a beautiful view of the beach. The beach is literally right across the street with a path straight to the sand. Before you reach the beach there's a private area owned by the hotel with lounge chairs so you can sit and enjoy without being bothered. The beach itself is very pretty and not crowded. There's a strip of restaurants that overlook the water and they're all very good (I'm fairly certain 90% of them are under the same ownership). The rooftop of the hotel is pretty spectacular with views of the beach from the front and views of the jungle at the rear of the hotel. We spent most of our rooftop time in the provided hammocks. On our second day we woke up and prepared breakfast in the kitchenette and ate on the balcony in front of our room and took in the view. The hotel has surfboards you can rent and we talked about doing that on day three or maybe trying out a deep sea fishing charter or checking out the Marietas Islands. There's a stand by the restaurants that can set you up with excursions as well as a list of things to do in the information binder that was in our room. BUT before we could do anything we both got very sick (it's traveling to another country, it happens). Our hosts were very kind and helpful and offered us some over-the-counter medicine as well as offering to have food delivered to the hotel if we were up for it. I wish we had more time to actually explore and check out more of the area but our stay at La Quinta del Sol was a good one and we would go back. This little hotel is a gem!

I just returned from a 14 day stay at the wonderful Hotel La Quinta del Sol. I believe it was my 6th or 7th multi night stay over the last 3 years. I consider this place my home away from home thanks to its incredible location, wonderful service from all staff including managers Nico and Mary who run this place like a well oiled machine. Everything here is kept meticulously clean, Nico always has workers touching up paint wherever needed, tiles being polished you name it. The place looks charming and spotlessly clean on every visit, especially the magnificent rooftop deck that offers amazing 360 degree views of the beach, bay and village. Without a doubt, the best value combined with top notch rooms and amenities in Punta Mita!

I believe the way you say cool in Spanish is Nico and Mary.. Ha! No really I love this place so much. The town is laid back and not all resorty which is why we like it. If you are into the fancy resort thing then maybe go elsewhere, if you are into surfing and/or chilling and hanging out with cool people then look no further. When you stay at Hotel La Quinta del Sol you have an awesome common area where you can see the surf break, you can literally decide to go out for a wave and be paddling out in 5 minutes. There is a small kitchen to cook if you feel like it or you can walk to lots of restaurants from fancy to street food. I think about this place every day. Thank you Mary and Nico for having us we will always come back.

The nearest large grocery store is in Bucerias, 20 minute drive away. There are many small shops in town for the basics. There are many good restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel.

Hola.... I haven't been to this hotel in November, but have been in the area. The water is usually really nice and warm..around 80...weather is fabulous as it is nice during the day not too hot, but cooler in the evenings. The beach here is always fabulous, a bit rocky so walk in slowly but just overall a really wonderful place to get away to in paradise! I think just to be on the safe side bring bug spray..but if you contact the hotel itself they will be able to tell you more, as they live on the premises. In any case please enjoy your Nov vacation! There is one little store that sells a few essentials like water, milk, cereal, snacks within walking distance. You also have another small store that has a little more that you can walk as well just not as close (probably 15 minute walk). The closest big grocery store available is in Puerto Vallarta. I hope this helps. Have fun! We loved Punta Mita and Quinta Del Sol.
