The Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort draws a mix of feedback, with guests often impressed by the modern rooms and numerous pools, exceptional spa, and dining variety. While the attentive and professional service garners praise, some guests have faced inconsistencies. The lively atmosphere and music are a hit for many, though others find the noise intrusive.
Despite the resort's diligent cleanliness and maintenance, occasional lapses occur. The location's beauty is noted, despite its rocky beaches and distance from Puerto Vallarta. Value perceptions vary, with some guests questioning costs relative to perks.

While I wish I could rate more, the experience was OK. We visited after soft opening yet, a few things still weren’t accessible (We should’ve booked soft opening for a huge price discount). Upon checkout , it wasn’t a great experience dealing with front desk. Osmar was short and not very friendly. It was our honeymoon and we had high expectations. We asked about a possible upgrade but he let us know that they were completely booked, unless we wanted to pay an extra $200 a night. We found that odd. He checked us into a room that was not completely cleaned, however I didn’t truly notice until later that evening. Housekeeping walked into the room 3 times moments after checking in (later I realized it was probably because, the room wasn’t completely cleaned).
3 days later, it changed for the better. We inquired about an upgrade (which our membership includes) , and the wonderful, sweet, Ana, got us switched over. Beautiful view, extremely clean, and much better experience! Also while at dinner, Andres ( or “Andi”, our butler) introduced himself. He was very attentive and speedy. We let him know that our plunge pool was dirty, and by the time we got to our room from dinner, he was leaving from just having our pool cleaned. We were super impressed! But also sad we didn’t get the chance to meet him on day one (guessing it’s because of our room issue).
The plunge pool, could’ve been skipped. A jetted tub would’ve been nice!
The resort is beautiful, I think in the next 6 months to 1 year this will be much better!
Javier in Desires bar was excellent, we really enjoyed seeing him in the evening. He makes the best mini beer shots!
Walking is a must here! Lots and lots of it. AND kids, everywhere. After booking we noticed the wording change about it being a shared resort, my husband insisted it probably wouldn’t be so bad, but I didn’t enjoy seeing kids everywhere, especially after leaving our own at home.

Preferred Club Jr. Suite
We just returned from a 5 day vacation at Secrets Bahia Mita and we loved every moment of it.
But before I get into all the hotel details, a quick note about transportation. The hotel is about 45 minutes away from the Vallarta airport, and the airport itself is somewhat hectic. As soon as you pick up your luggage and head for the door, you’ll walk by dozens and dozens of people offering you transportation. I would assume all those people have permits to pick up tourists from the airport, but I wouldn’t want to find out otherwise once I’m in some stranger’s car. So, unless you feel adventurous or want to haggle for the lowest possible price, I strongly recommend you find transportation before getting there.
Checking in: Once there, you’ll be greeted by friendly bell staff who will take your luggage, guide you to the reception and offer you something to drink while you wait. If you booked a Preferred Club room, there’s a separate, air-conditioned area for you to check in and out.
Walking to your room: As others have mentioned, the elevators are a bit confusing, but it’s not as bad as some have made it out to be. In most places where you take the elevators there are two options, the elevator on the left will go to certain floors, and the one on the right will go to others. Just take a few seconds to read which of the two goes to your floor and call that one. They are aware of this, so after checking you in they have someone walk you to your room.
The Room: The room was nice and cold with the AC blasting when we walked in (64 F). The person who walked us to our room asked if we wanted the room temperature increased and set the thermostat to a cozier 70 F after we agreed. While he was showing us around the room our luggage arrived. They made sure we didn't have any questions or concerns about the room and left. We had chips and M&Ms, plus a mini fridge with bottled waters, sodas, and alcohol (scotch, vodka, tequila and rum).
The food: During our stay we visited Barefoot grill (quick bites), the buffet (standard buffet foods), Portofino (we loved the food but the portions were smaller than in the other Hotel restaurants), Himitsu (we went twice here, once for the Teppanyaki dinner – reservation needed, and another night just a regular dinner, both amazing).
The drinks: They did not skimp out on the liquor when we ordered cocktails which is obviously great. They had pretty much anything we ordered they were able to make. The beer selection was Corona Light, Pacifico and Modelo when we stayed.
The shows: We watched a fire show (it was great) and a Mexican folkloric dance show with a live mariachi (it was awesome).
The entertainment: The pool staff hosted different activities throughout the day to keep people entertained. From water aerobics to random games like catching water balloons in the pool. Overall great atmosphere when they were around.

I want to say that the staff is incredible!
Salvador (pool), Shalom (server) and Monica in the gift shop were so amazing!
All of the staff was great except for Ismael in the Mediterranean restaurant. He does not take his job seriously and is too cool to wait for you to even look at the menu before he continuously asks you “what do you want to order”. In an uninterested voice complete with eye rolls. He brought me the wrong order and we waited for the new order to come and after half hour I asked where my food was and he said the kitchen was closed. He never mentioned it was closing before, so we waited like idiots. I was starving and furious.
The resort is the most gorgeous and elegant property, 45 mins from Puerto Vallarta by cab, bus etc.
I wanted to give the resort a five star but I had to change my room three times.
1. We wanted preferred (and you do too! Lots of perks with preferred you will notice and feel less than, if you don’t splurge a little on the preferred. The booking info doesn’t really tell you about the differences)
2. The second room had mold and a horrible smell.
3. The third room bathtub leaked all over the floor for two days after we used it. I mean sloshing around wet. We just kept this room.
They accommodated us every time.
Warning ladies: The lighting in the bathrooms is horrible. I wished I had brought a makeup mirror.
We had a great time and it is a couples resort with the staff specializing in lots of amenities to make your stay top of the line and romantic. Rent a cabana for the day and be treated like royalty by the staff bringing food and drinks and just about anything you can think of to please you.
The pools everywhere are so beautiful. The plaza has entertainment every night and they had great performances. Buffets were delicious and the drinks were flowing.
We had a special dinner in the Cava Room in the French restaurant that was to die for! We had to purchase bottles of wine but it was worth it with a free 12 course meal.
Try the spa, the staff is highly trained and they have hydro therapy pools and saunas.
Do not get stuck with the timeshare tour unless you want to but it could be up to 4 hours before you get out of there with your sanity still intact if you decide to not participate in the timeshare.
Half of the resort is Secrets (adults) and the other half is Dreams (families, kids) they have the areas separated but you will still see children, just no kids are throwing their wet pool ball in your face or splashing you because there are separate pools! Definitely check out the salt water pool on the beach to the south of the resort we saw some puffer fish, the water is warm.
None of our group wanted to come home! But alas we did board the plane for home and talked about how amazing and stunning Secrets was and plan to visit again.

We had a really good time here celebrating our friend’s birthday, but the resort still has some polishing to do in terms of housekeeping and facilities. Service was very strong, and standouts for us were Fabian, Mitzi, and Monserrat. Staff here genuinely wants you to have a good time and while things sometimes happen at a slower pace than you’d prefer, we always got what we asked for eventually. The mariachi band hired multiple nights was excellent and incredibly impressive, though it was so loud that it did invade the privacy of our room one evening we tried to keep things chill. Spa services were top notch (though priced well beyond what you’d pay at a US spa in any major city), though the continual plumbing issues the resort seems to be experiencing marred our experience (the smell was, at times, unbearable).
It should be noted that the resort is split between families (Dreams) and adults only (Secrets), and while contact between the two is limited, there is substantial overlap at buffets and some restaurants. Just something to be aware of when booking, since lots of people booking adults only trips don’t really want to hear or see kids when on vacation. While some comments on the beach have been negative, I found exploring the tide pools around low tide to be especially fun, unique, and interesting, and if you are a talented swimmer or surfer you should have no problem with the currents.
Staff will continually engage you to join a Club Membership sales presentation that we regretfully attended. What was supposed to be a 1.5 hour breakfast turned into a 3-4 hour high pressure ordeal and our recompense was access to a restaurant we could have attended with friends anyway. Not at all a fun way to spend valuable vacation time, and to continually be asked to join presentations after already having done so was especially annoying. Even seeing other visitors in the same presentation breakfasts was depressing because you know what they’re getting themselves into. People are just doing their jobs, so I get it, but it’s not fun or relaxing to have to beg out of a conversation with a nice, well-meaning person either.
To management/ownership: The 6th floor restaurant’s ceiling continually leaks due to a currently uncompleted pool on the 7th floor, and to my untrained eye it looks like a number of serious code violations have been made in its construction. Images of tons water crashing down on diners frequently flashed before my eyes. This fix should be expedited for visitor safety, hygiene (people are literally eating breakfast and dinner amidst leaking ceiling water), and the resorts overall brand equity. A disaster of that magnitude would be insurmountable.
Overall I would come back with friends with kids so we could enjoy the resort together, but only after a couple of years and all the kinks (plumbing, construction, and otherwise) have been worked out of the resort.

I have been to a few resorts and this one was just ok. From the moment you get to the resort you are met with a barrage of sales tactics and they don't seem respectful at all that after a long day of traveling, you just want to take a moment to relax then decide what you would like to do later.
The food was decent, however it's a little frustrating that not every restaurant is open every day and they don't actually post a schedule anywhere. They also pressure you very hard to order everything upfront which makes you feel rushed.
The location overall is very nice, but it is still not complete and construction is still going on. If you are the type of person who likes late night pools don't go here, they all close at 8pm unless you join the preferred club for access to those pools.
I ended up catching covid there. I will say, i'm grateful they don't charge you for the extended stay, but they sure do treat you different. They stuck us in a room right by where the construction was going, my ears are still ringing from hearing trucks sitting there all day from dusk to dawn for 5 days straight. You don't get access to the restuarant food anymore, and they take much longer to respond to any request.
Finally, we asked if they would comp our laundry since we weren't allowed to leave our room and its like $100 USD just for a few articles of clothes... the concierge told us yes. Well, when we went to leave they told us they had to charge us for it, and it did not matter what that person said. The employee was incredibly rude and condescending as soon as i asked to speak to a manager, ultimately she said the most she was approved for was a 25% discount. We would not of had our laundry done if we knew we had to pay for it. The fact we paid so much to stay here and they for one don't honor one of their employees word and then told us we cannot leave if we don't pay it? That to me is just horrible hospitality.

The rates for a soft opening were too good to pass up so we took the chance. That turned out to be a mistake since you always get what you pay for.
Pros:
Surf: The location is spectacular with two natural breaks that are super consistent. The waves look a little big, but it's such a slow break, novice surfers can take a shot a head high waves.
Staff: The staff has been well trained and is very friendly. They mean very well and are really trying. Pool side service was excellent and we took room service one night and enjoyed the service.
Spa: This is the one thing they have hit perfectly. Excellent experience for those in our group that received massages and spa treatments.
Cons:
Room cleaning: Maybe it's an issue with labor, but each day our room was not cleaned until after 6:00pm, or exactly when we were preparing to go to dinner. The day of checkout, the maid was right there, though.
Elevators: The design of the hotel is like an old cruise ship. Depending on which floor you are on, you will have to change elevators to get to your floor. The location of the elevators are inconvenient and there are way too few.
Communication: Everything I requested, did not happen. Arranged for taxis on three seperate occasions and there never was a taxi. I finally arranged my own transportation. The concierge desk simply tells you everything they can't do.
In general the food was acceptable but not great. Many of the restaurants were not open yet. Do not eat at Seaside Grill until after sunset. The sun sets right into the restaurant and it will cook you in your seat. They really need to install shades. Terrible design flaw.
Lots of leaks, but that will get addressed over time. All in all, the staff tries hard, but the ongoing construction is a constant irritant. Wait to go. And even then, be prepared for a design layout that will ensure you get 15,000 steps per day.

I recently returned from a quick 3 night stay. I would have loved to stay longer but work has been keeping me busy. As always, we booked this with Dream Makers Vacation Services. We would not entrust our vacations to anyone else. PVR is so different than other parts of Mexico-so it was amazing to see both the mountains and the beach all in the same view. This is a relatively new resort, so we were excited to visit.
We were in a Preferred Club room with a garden, tropical view. The room was very nice and extremely clean but we missed our typical ocean view (go for that!). Housekeeping was very pleasant and kind when I saw them-please remember to leave a tip for them as they work so hard.
My favorite area was the 6th Floor Preferred Club pool and Olio. My salad at Olio was awesome. The views here were stunning and the drink service was excellent. I absolutely loved my days here. I went to the pool near the water park (Dreams side) but enjoyed the Preferred Club area pool the most. For breakfast at the Market Cafe, I highly recommend going up to the smoothie area and have them make something for you. I started by day with watermelon juice with a little bit of lime and it was amazing.
Dreams is next to Secrets. If you do not want to see kids at all, then you might want to rethink the resort (I love kids so it was fine). The properties are adjoining.
The beach is small but pretty and it was fun to watch surfers and the sunset. The sunsets were unreal here!
My favorite restaurant was Portofino. I also enjoyed the Cafe, although they need a few more things like cookies that are easy to grab and go. The Sports Bar was a good place to watch a Football Game. I would love to see them expand their menu-even chips and salsa would be fantastic,
This property is beautiful. As time goes on. I expect it to get even better. I would not hesitate to go back again and next time I will hopefully get to stay longer.

If I could have rated the resort separately from the staff, the resort would be a 4-star and the staff a 5+ Star ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of the pictures is with our pool concierge team (Antonio, Nancy, Omar, Salvador, Mike, Ramses & Fabian). From simple acts of kindness like daily sunglass cleaning, towel service and making us feel like family — to super special and attentive services like our anniversary surprise as well as our last day treat made our trip amazing!!
The rooftop pools, cleanliness and weather here are the best! The reason for the 4 star resort rating is mainly 3 things:
1. We prefer a more plush garden-type resort … there is simply too much concrete for me and the layout is not the easiest to navigate.
2. The beach is super small, very rocky and you have to walk up to the resort pool area to use the restroom (several small flights of stairs). Service at the beach (especially during volleyball) is terrible!
3. The view from our balcony (and most every balcony) looks directly on the rooms on the other side. For us, this meant we looked partially at the water and mostly into the rooms on the Dreams side. We prefer more privacy from our balcony!
We have been UVC members for 9 years and have never regretted it! We are spoiled by all the beautiful properties and amazing staff we have met over the years.

We have traveled to a lot of the Secrets, Zoetry, Dreams and Breathless properties and I can say that this one is by far the worse we have visited so far. First of all, the property is very large and beautiful, however, whoever designed this property wasn't thinking of the customers. Everyone we talked to stated that it took them 3 days or more to figure out how to navigate the property just to get back to their room. First of all, we checked in, they immediately start the push to meet for a breakfast ( code for membership sales). They didn't show us around the property, nor show us how to properly work the climate control in the room. They didn't explain that there are tablet in each room for room service orders, daily activities schedules, etc. We noticed nightly shows listed on the tablet schedule, but didn't learn where the amphitheater was until the 4th day and we weren't the only ones. The property is divided into two side, one for families called Dreams and the all adult side called Secrets. The shows were at the family side of the resort. We met a couple who had been there 5 days who didn't know they had a disco type club on property. They say that there is only one restaurant that requires reservations, but we found that wasn't true. Most of the specialty restaurant had long wait times each night. On Tuesday Feb 28th 2023 we decided to go to the buffet restaurant, which also is on the family side, it was closed and every speciality restaurant had at least a 45 minute wait, so we had to settle for their mediocre room service food. The best thing that room service had was the Lasagnas.
In all honestly the staff really do try, they are very friendly, but they just aren't trained well enough yet. The entertainment around the pool lasted about 10 minutes at each side. The beach area is more suitable for surfing than swimming because it is rocky with rough waters, also very small. They have a drink of the day on the tablet but when you ask the bartender for a drink of the day, they don't even know what it is or how to make it. I had to tablet to show them and they didn't even have all the necessary ingredients to make them. My one bright spot was the maid service, those young Ladies are on top of it. They are constantly asking if you want your room cleaned if they haven't cleaned it that day or did the nightly turndown service. In late 2021, we visited the Secrets in Puerto Vallarta, and it was so much better than this one. I will not ever come back to this one, even though I think they will get better after a few years of training. I would say the overall food was fair, but they overcook bacon to the point of almost being like jerky. I ordered a BLT from room service and it was inedible. My wife ordered red snapper from the seaside grill that was so dry it was like chewing paper, so she didn't eat it.

Pros:
Rooms are spacious and ac works great.
Food overall in secrets is awesome and desserts are among the few I’ve tried so far that out-stand in quality and flavor (specially the croissants in breakfast)
Bordeaux has amazing food and desserts.
Overall cleanliness was perfect.
Alcoholic beverages are great.
Cons:
A lot of staff members have no idea where things are and what are the things on the menu they’re serving maybe because the hotel is brand new
Beach is inexistent, rocks won’t allow you to get into the water and beach they have literally 15 beach chairs for a 2000 people hotel. Same happens at the manatee beachfront bar, you get there @10am and it’s nearly impossible to get a chair. And this is with an occupancy rate of 60%.
Reservations were not allowed at the secret’s restaurants, and some of them requires you to wait for 45 mins, again with a low occupancy rate I can’t imagine what will it be at a 100% occupancy.
Premium bottles (don Julio in my case) ran out quickly, if you’re paying a premium from dreams to stay @ secrets and have more premium liquors you should always have them available for costumers, unacceptable to say we ran out of them (at 1pm). And they never have premium liqueurs at the bar or at the clubs you should have them there as well.
There’s basically no division between dreams and secrets in this moment, so you end up having the noise of a lot kids since they’re meters away one from each other (in the common areas)
The shower in the room is transparent so there’s no really any privacy when you’re showering if you go with a friend or family and the tiles on the floor are not well designed so water always leaked out of the shower making a mess.
Some rooms on the hotel require you to take two elevators and a 5 min walk to reach them, this makes the room far away from everything.
The preferred areas (which you have to pay a premium fee) have also very few beach chairs, and food is not really different than the other restaurants, I will personally not pay For it.
Overall we had a pleasant stay :) and I will highly recommend the property if you’re not interested in the beach.

Correct. Info above from our recent experience. I’d add- Dreams seemed to have more families and secrets more adults and couples only. I believe it’s only the upper level pools on the secrets side that we’re adult only
It depends on what room you booked. The Preferred Club room I had faced the resort where the pool and the view of the ocean is. From what I noticed, the other suites faced the jungle but all suites seemed to have sunlight!
