Detailed Reviews
Firstly the phone greeting and response when booking was first class.
On arrival Covid precautions were thorough including temperature checks, good signage and plenty of gel.
Greeted and taken through to the drawing room then handover to dining room staff. A few minutes wait then we were shown to our window table overlooking the gardens.
There was a short delay brining menus but we were in no rush. The menu had suitable choices for my vegetarian wife.
Drinks were served smartly although there was a short delay to the starters arrival which could be down to covid issues.
The starters were very tasty and both plates were cleaned ( the bowl for the pea veloute was actually wiped clean by a piece of bread!). My crab cocktail was very fresh tasting and the flavour combination worked well.
The roast beef main was a good portion, tasty and the meat was tender. The yorkshire was twice the height of normal and served with good gravy (jus). While the meat was good I felt it was not recently carved. If correct this could be down to turnover through covid as there were only another 4 or 5 tables occupied while we were in and at least on of those was for afternoon tea (which looked excellent).
Taking quality, location and service into account the price was quite acceptable.

As a local resident to Rookery I’ve known the place for years but have rarely stayed there, but I needed a one night stay for my mother on her 77th birthday and being a regular visitor of other handpicked hotels I thought I’d give the local a try!
Of course I have an awkward itinerary, need a room that is twin bedded, has a lovely view oh and can accommodate my elderly Labrador who has dementia so I won’t put her in kennels anymore, I contacted the hotel manager direct to see what could be done and what a great night was organised. Nothing was a problem, the room was a front view 1st floor with a great bay window with views out over the countryside, but still close enough to the stair case for me to take the dog out late at night, evening meal was arranged in the bar at the exact type of table we’d requested, breakfast was service perfectly in the lounge both with ample space left for the old Labrador to sit with us and eat the sausages cooked especially for her. You simply couldn’t ask for more…..well actually……the highlight of the stay was walking into the room to find a bottle of champagne on ice, compliments of the Rookery team for my Mum’s birthday - how nice is that!
We took our lunch outside on the terrace, had a lovely chat with Eva who was genuinely interested in why we’d chosen Rookery with the Labrador. There was a wedding on, a birthday function, Sunday lunches in the restaurant yet staff were a plenty, we were never left thirsty, staff were always on hand.
Our evening meal, another complimentary glass of champagne for my Mum’s birthday with super attentive service from Amy all night long and a nice espresso martini to send me off to sleep. It was just perfect.
My mum also has a lovely treatment over in the spa whilst I walked the dog in the grounds, and we then had a beautiful lunch sat in a lovely booth overlooking the pool, with super friendly service from Victoria, Kelly and Sophie.
I’ve seen a few less complimentary reviews on here, which is very sad as I found nothing of the sort, these grumblers need to appreciate the team at Rookery are only humans just like us all and there is not a business in the land right now that isn’t some how still effected by Covid in terms of recruitment and supply chain which makes it so damn difficult to deliver the service they so wish they could.
Well done team, we loved our stay and hope our review inspires others to come along with their four legged friends.

Had a great time at Rookery. The staff were lovely and welcoming and Covid issues are taken seriously with hand sanitisers located at various points and one way systems in place. The cleaning staff also appear to be doing an excellent job as our room and the spa facilities were spotless. Breakfast was very nice with generous portions (not always the case in some hotels where table service is provided.) All in all was impressed and would definitely return.

Overall we had a good time but the service at times was appalling. We had a really nice deluxe double room and had taken advantage of a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast deal. We really enjoyed the spa facilities in the afternoon, they are very clean and modern although beware the family swim which starts at 3.30 if you have gone as a couple. So, the service, we went down to the bar at 6.30 for a pre-dinner drink, it was quiet but after 20 minutes we still hadn't been asked what we wanted; eventually we found a manager and another 15 minutes on we had drinks. Really don't understand what was going on, the staff just seemed to be wandering around and it wasn't just us that was affected, however to be fair the manager he did give us the drinks and some canapes
complimentary.
Dinner was excellent and the service was good although it is not cheap, even with our DBB deal it still cost ÂŁ80 with a bottle of wine after the rather cheeky 10% service charge was automatically added to the bill.
Unfortunately at breakfast the service let itself down again with staff seemingly not knowing who was doing what. We waited ages (as did all those around us) for coffee and we had to ask to order hot food. Again the food was excellent but for 4 star hotel the service is just not up to scratch.
To summarise, we had a nice stay but probably wouldn't stay again as the value for money is just not there mainly down to the poor service which is a shame.

Dear Smeepr, Thank you for leaving a review following your recent visit to Rookery Hall Hotel & Spa. It is lovely to read that you enjoyed our health club and spa facilities. We do have designated swim times in place so that guests with children can also enjoy our facilities. For others reading this review the times can be found on our website and we also do give details upon check in. I am sorry to read about the lack of service received in the bar, but also I am happy that the Manager on duty did resolve this for you. Thank you for your kind comments regarding your dinner experience. Chef and his team and also the Restaurant team will be delighted to read your comments. The service charge that is added is discretionary and will be removed at the request of our guests. Rest assured that your comments regarding breakfast service have been noted and actions are in place to prevent any re occurrence. It is disappointing that despite reading that you had a nice stay you probably wouldn't stay again. Should you decide on a return visit in the future please do contact me directly. Kind regards, John Murphy

My wife and. Have been to Rookery Hall a number of times and it’s always good. This year we were a little nervous as it was our first trip since lockdown but we needn’t have worried,. The management and staff at Rookery Hall has done a great job in making the whole experience feel both safe and normal. The place was spotlessly clean, there was good signage and we were able to dine at the same well distanced table each day for dinner and breakfast. The food was as usual, delicious and although the usual breakfast buffet is not possible the new healthy breakfast menu was marvellous. All this was delivered in a professional, friendly and well protected manner by the staff that we met making this a really enjoyable short break at a lovely location. We cannot recommend it enough.

Amazing atmosphere. Superb staff, beautiful Spa Hotel.
Staying here for my Husbands Birthday. Having the most prestige experience, lovely gestures from the Hotel, Chocolates, Champagne and a card. Megdalana, Eve, Helen, Susanna and all the staff are a credit to the Hotel! Check in was super efficient.
Our Suite is immaculate, decor is warm and inviting. The bed makes you feel like you are sleeping on a Cloud, super comfy.
Amazing Bathroom in pristine condition.
Mini Fridge is just perfect. The Room is the perfect temperature all night, and you could not hear a pin drop.
I had a dietary requirement and was completely blown away with the outstanding service I received from the Staff , they bought out Crockery and Plates too for us to have our lunch.
The Manager was extremely helpful in advising us of nearby restaurants and the area.
The Aura of the Hotel is serene and pure luxury.
Breakfast is too notch, and the drinks are served on a tray to add to the luxury.
Absolutely nothing to fault, and we will be definitely returning.

we came for dinner on the recommendation of our daughter & son in law who spent their 20th anniversary here. First visit to a dining room since lock down and I have to say that the staff were fantastic despite all the extra Covid precautions they had to endure such as face masks.
We knew this hotel very well in the past and really welcomed the way in which we were greeted on arrival, Sun was shining that evening so we were outside for a drink...Wren Gin locally produced with a nice touch of blackberries in my chosen gin & raspberries in my wife`s gin with the ice cubes. The general Manager came to our table at the end of the meal to discuss our opinion of the food & ambience now versus the past which was a great touch from such a senior person.
I would expect that as time goes on they will improve the variety as more customers come to their restaurant. Well done and we will return as we enjoyed the occasion

Family swim on a Saturday afternoon - are you joking?!?
A lot of people have spent good money to come and have a Spa experience, somewhere to come and relax, switch off, potentially get away from the Kids, and you've cheapened it by having family time at weekends. Probably just trying to find ways of boosting revenue because Rookery Hall isn't as great as it used to be and not making the money it used to.
My wife pointing out an ancient photo of the Beckhams at Rookery Hall. Living in the past perhaps? Holding onto the heyday? I'm pretty sure the Beckhams wouldn't want to stay at Rookery Hall & Spa
The service at dinner and breakfast was sub-standard for a 4 star AA Rosettte accredited restaurant.
I've never felt so rushed. It felt like the staff were running round, trying to obtain customers orders as quickly as possible. It felt cheap.
The food was "ok". The sweetcorn panna cotta was very very cold, unpleasant cold. The pork main dish required more jus as the dish was too dry otherwise. The chefs "take" on a Eton mess needs to be reviewed. The fundimental ingredients of an Eton mess is cream and meringue, what my wife was served was a panna cotta with a lump of mango sorbet on it and some meringue curls, this dish was sent back. The sticky toffee pudding should have come with a poached pair, it didn't and seems all of the sticky toffee puddings that were served were missing this.
Seeing the same staff members at breakfast from the evenings dinner service clearly demonstrates the staff shortage that has probably led to a sub-standard experience.
'Living' in hotels during the working week across the globe, I get to experience many different hotels chains in different cultures and can honestly say, for the money, this has to be one of my biggest dissapointments and certainly won't be recommended Rookery Hall to friends or family

We do have designated family swim times in place. These can be found on our website, confirmation and given upon check in. I am disappointed that your stay was not as it should have been and I am sorry that you did not bring any of your points raised to our attention prior to your departure as there is always a Duty Manager available to speak to. What a perfect stay from the moment we arrived. Jess made us feel welcome and organised our breakfast in our room with no problems at all. Rookery Hall have used lockdown to make the hotel and bar area really impressive. Fresh paintwork, furniture and decoration made the hotel even more beautiful than our last visit.
Our room was impressive with a huge bed ( 3 pillows wide) with high quality bedding, a super shower and bath with a TV at the foot. There was no doubt as to how clean the room was and magazines and papers were available through a QR scanner.
Breakfast in the room was perfect with THE best fried eggs we've ever had.
The setting of the hotel is breathtaking to wake up too and only 20min to Oulton Park.
Thankyou to Jess on reception and well done Rookery Hall for all your efforts to keep everyone safe without feeling restricted.
We'll see you again soon.

Just returned from Rookery Hall and we had a lovely time! We booked through a January offer & got Cream tea, Dinner, Bed, Breakfast & use of the spa facilities for approx ÂŁ200, which I felt was good value! Included an upgrade to an executive room too. Staff very busy but friendly & efficient, all food was lovely. We enjoyed our time in the spa & also booked a massage, which was also very good. Would definitely return!

Hi
Yes the leisure facilities are Included in an overnight stay.
I am unsure about whether it can be accessed before check in. You would need to contact the hotel direct.
Hi Alisha,
Your £50 credit can be used towards and food and drink enjoyed whilst at the hotel whether that be in the lounge bar, restaurant, café bar in the spa or even in-room.
I hope this helps!

Hi Marcus
Apologies for the delay in responding, I've just returned from holiday.
Our check in time is usually 3.00pm, however, on Saturday I can arrange a check in time of 12.00pm if this helps?
Can you just confirm under what name is the room booked?
Kind Regards
Tim

We stayed in the old hall there was no lift , we had a double room and it had a bath and a shower cubicle there is a modern building which may well have a lift
Sorry only just seen this. Our room definitely had a free standing bath and also a shower, plus two sinks, slough it was a suite and not just a room. I’m sure the hotel can answer this for you, or probably have already. Definitely worth a stay
