Quiet February Friday evening and we were looking for a venue for a rare meal out minus the kids, couldn't have chosen better. Found the service excellent, reasonable menu choice including veggie /vegan choices and great prices - will definitely be back for a return visit next time we're in the lakes

After walking 28 kms from St. Bees, this was our first stop on our Coast to Coast journey, and it was a very welcome sight. Shepherds Arms is a large traditional British pub with a great busy atmosphere, many of the patrons being fellow C2C walkers. Diana, the host, was friendly and helpful, the room was large and comfortable and...

Called into the Shepherds Arms after a walk & had a really tasty pub lunch. My husband had roast beef whilst I had the steak & ale pie. Good size slab of pie with traditional pastry top & the steak was very tender with lots of rich ale based gravy. Husband said beef was delicious & good portion of nicely...

Booked for New Years Day at short notice whilst visiting the area. A very welcoming atmosphere and an extensive menu with endless choice and all good home made dinners! The food was absolutely delicious with good size servings! Would 100% recommend this place!!

I stayed here for one night as a base for walking in the area. Although I booked a single room, I was upgraded free of charge to a double. The staff were friendly, and recommended dishes from the menu which were very good: in particular the steak pie. The lady behind the bar has a degree in archaeology, but there...

We go here regularly for drinks when we visit the lakes. But we thought we'd try the food this time too. We both ordered the fish & chips. It arrived immediately which was ominous. The batter was really greasy and when you cut into it, you could see the grease come out. Not a very nice plate of food at...

Sat having a wonderful full Cumbrian breakfast whilst writing this review. We started the coast to coast and this was I first overnight stay, arrived a little later than expected and the landlady had rung us to make sure we were ok, a nice touch and highly appreciated. Finally arrived wet and in the dark to the most wonderful welcome...

Odd place this! Way off the beaten track unless you're walking - and what a fantastic walk it is round Ennetdale!!! - and looks a bit old and uninspiring both when you arrive and when you sit down. However the welcome very warm indeed - my 8 year old daughter who's a bit obsessed with playing at cafes at the...

Stayed here for the first night of my C2C. Arrived soaking wet and they were great at taking my wet things and putting them away to come back next day dry. Traditional pub with a pub that served a nice dinner and a great breakfast. On the route which is an added bonus. Excellent start!

Although this is called a hotel I think a pub with rooms would be more accurate. We travelled as a group of 7 walkers and thoroughly enjoyed the range of local beers (it is Camra listed), excellent food and log burner in the bar. The proprietor and staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and our rooms were comfortable...
