We awoke Sunday morning to a golden frosty morning _ so decided to treat ourselves to lunch out _ and in todays austerity climate it is a treat,!!! but also a dilemma, we have paid in the past between eight pound and thirteen, with a mix of satisfaction and disappointment _ (The wheatsheaf we chose for its pleasant village location)... Wife and I dropped in for lunch after long weekend in Lakes. Made very welcome on cold November day plus nice coal fire. Not been here for 30yrs and not much has changed..very comfortable. Great local ales and good selection of food at reasonable prices..our lunch was excellent. Loos however in need of update..otherwise great Inn.

We found The Wheatsheaf through our Britstops for motorhomes book. We stayed overnight in the car park & had dinner in the pub. I had the fish pie & my husband the steak & ale pie.... Both were delicious, well cooked & just the right size. The veg were cooked a treat & not hard like the trend seems to... More

The duvets were way too thick considering england was in the middle of a heatwave. The room was far too hot with only a tiny window in the corner to let and sort of fresh air in. The food was poor. However the most annoying of all was the church bells which rang every 15 mins which made us not... More

Hello Louis, I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay. We do try to control most things but I am afraid there is little that we can do about hot weather and low wind speed. With respect to the Church bells that is also beyond my control but I will pass your comments on to the Vicar. We have... More

A jewel set behind the trees. Step back in time to an Old English inn full of character and charm. We rate this pub so highly we chose to have our wedding here! The staff are friendly and do their upmost to make you feel welcome. If you are looking for a place that offers genuine hospitality then this is... More

Our first night (Friday) at the Wheatsheaf started really well. They agreed to a late check in (10:30pm) for us which was very helpful as we couldn't get there earlier. However, the worrying signs started to show as they locked up the hotel front door at 11:30pm. On Saturday morning, contrary to their explanation that breakfast would be served until... More

No one was more shocked and embarrassed than myself when I found out what had happened and I have to say that this is the first, and last, time this will occur. No excuses are offered, we failed completely, although I must say that despite the review I and our manager apologised unreservedly and profusely at the time, and by... More

A good old English Inn Must date back many years and as a result has character and charm. If you require yr hotels anodyne and perfectly placed towels, soap etc and predicable standards then this probably isn't the place for you If like me you like to see places that have some history and interest and are staffed by nice... Excellent food and service. The meals were of ample portion and well presented. Being a vegetarian I had the nut roast which was very tasty. Unfortunately that was the only vegetarian option. My partner had the steak and ale pie which he said was lovely. A lovely comfortable pub. We go everytime

Think the signeage gives the wrong impression - expected some sort of gastro pub - modern interior - modern menu - turns out the signeage is the only modern thing - olde worlde charm in bucket loads - traditional food menu - very tasty food and good value for money - cant help but think the place wouls be buzzing... Just what we needed after a long day hiking the beautiful woods around Silverdale with our son. Friendly welcome, cask ale, decent portions of tasty food, efficiently served. Somewhat skinny on the vegetables, but that might just have been the dishes we chose. I would also have preferred a darker ale, but I'm old fashioned like that. Recommended.
