Had Sunday lunch here and it was a very enjoyable experience. The lounge for pre-meal drinks and coffee afterwards has a tasteful old world feel with very comfortable sofas. The staff are very good and you are not rushed at all - perhaps not a place for a quick well, but certainly one for a relaxing experience. The menu was...

Alistair Sawday recommended hotel that lived up to the recommendation. Friendly helpful staff. Good choice at breakfast and a range of meal options in the evening which were all found to be very good. Good location for trips out. Comfortable room with well appointed bathroom.

We were invited to a wedding in a nearby village and the George was the nearest hotel that had vacancies. I am so glad that it was, it was a lovely hotel and we were lucky enough to be able to check in to the rooms at lunchtime as we had requested a room to get changed for the wedding....

Lovely friendly welcoming staff. Really looked after us without being intrusive. Food superb and very well presented. Good choice of menu. Decor in keeping and If lived nearer would go on a regular basis.

Walkers but wanting a base with comfort, constant hot water, first class food and attentive helpful staff – look no further. I have just organised a 4 night walking holiday for a group of 38 staying at The George on a Dinner B & B basis. From my first contact with James the Manager I had nothing but support, nothing...

Stayed midweek at the George, room spacious and well equipped. Bed soft and despite being next to the road the room was quiet. Breakfast good. Staff helpful and friendly. Needs a real ale in the bar however, Boddingtons! really

This is a great hotel; a lovely building, friendly staff and great rooms. The breakfast was fantastic, one of the best hotel breakfasts i have ever had, and the rooms were to a very high spec. It is in a lovely location with lots of good places to eat and drink.

Lovely building and decor. receptionist v welcoming and informative, atmosphere a little cold and stilted. Room was ok on ground floor overlooking car park and staff smoking area, noisy from staff. Room nicely decorated and bed comfy.. Breakfast room deathly dull, and couldn't wait to get out on appointments. Breakfast ok..Dinner looked overly expensive for menu..went elsewhere so can't comment..all...

We only booked this hotel by chance for a last-minute overnight stay in Derbyshire, but we already can't wait to go back. The staff were so friendly and obliging, the owner even introduced himself to us personally, which was a nice touch. It is a very historic building, but it has been redesigned and decorated beautifully. There are a few...

Stayed in a single room on the front of the hotel. Room was comfy with a nice bathroom. Ate in the restaurant which was excellent. Food was delicious although I thought the starter was a little stingy considering the main element was carrots! Otherwise couldn't fault it. Nice little touches and you got old school formal service. Restaurant atmosphere was...
