I stayed for 2 nights in November 2016. I was met by the host Laura who provided excellent advice on things to see and explore locally, with recommendations of places to eat and drink. I think I ticked off all her suggestions and was very satisfied. Hillcrest Guest House is situated a 2 min walk from the main street with... More

On a recent motorcycle trip to Cape York. Stumbled upon this gem by accident. Amazed at how cheap it was to stay here and the array of services provided. Staff excellent and a great breakfast in the price. Rooms super clean and comfortable and atmosphere was brilliant. Will go to Cooktown just to stay here. Highly recommend.

This is a lovely guesthouse located a short walk away from the main street. Although be prepared that it is easier going downhill - especially in the heat! We both enjoyed our stay here and the surroundings of this guesthouse are delightful. the gardens are lovely and it is easy to find a quiet spot.We were lucky enought to see... More

We loved this accommodation, well located right under Grassy Hill. Beautiful old Queenslander, well appointed rooms. Staff are very friendly, and we loved Katrina! Good, honest recommendations for eating out. Cooktown is not very big - the main street was 1 minute drive. Make sure you do Grassy Hill on sunset, and the museum was excellent. The accommodation also has... More

Katrina is the perfect host in that she's warm and welcoming, helpful & practical yet not at all intrusive. Hillcrest is perfectly located 2 mins walk to the Main Street (pubs, cafes, museum, wharf) and is on the way to the magnificent Cooktown lookout. We normally like our privacy and stay in hotels but didn't regret this in the slightest... More

Very much enjoyed this place! Breakfast in the morning provided, and a lovely vibe to this place making us feel really comfortable! Rooms and bathrooms always clean which I love! Would be back again if I was in town again without a doubt.

Located one block from the main street of Cooktown and within a short walk to the RSL and Bowls Club this guest house was a great place to stay. The toilets/showers were very clean and were obviously checked several times a day. The rooms are clean with comfortable beds TV, fridge etc. Coffee is available from the dining area 24/7.... More

The guesthouse has a very pleasant homey atmosphere. Clean and airy, polished floors and a well equipped shared bathroom with lots of towels, soap, shampoo and conditioners. The manager was very welcoming and helpful with information. The breakfast was excellent, good bread, yoghurt and beautiful fresh fruit salad as well as the usual brekky items. The single room was comfortable... More

Stayed here overnight with a group of 10 at the end of a wonderful camping tour of Olkola country north-west of Laura. Amazingly we all fitted in (and were not the only guests) so clearly its cottage-y appearance is deceptive! Rooms were delightful, as was the garden setting - including pool which a few of us made a bee-line for... More
