Welcome to one of Columbus' oldest surviving hotels! Built atop a plot of land dating back to the birth of the city in 1800, the history of our hotel follows closely the transformation of Columbus, Ohio, from a sleepy pioneer town inhabited by the peace-loving Wyandot Indians and our nation's earliest settlers into today's sprawling urban conurbation and capital of our state. Built in 1911, our building has always been one of stark contrasts. Ostensibly constructed as a dry goods store, the United States Government secretly commissioned the building as a clandestine producer of uniforms and helmets in anticipation of World War I. It was around this time that the lower level of the lobby became a factory for the Wolfe Brothers' successful shoe business. Meanwhile, thousands of prison inmates from the nearby Ohio State Penitentiary were forced into unsafe and unsanitary forced labor, transported at gunpoint down an elaborate network of tunnels connecting the prison to industrial plants around the city. The remnants of this tunnel still survive today, entombed beneath the first floor bedrooms, used as storage for maintenance and housekeeping supplies. From 1954, Gene Schiller purchased the dry goods store and transformed it into a hotel, which he named "The Victorian Inn" after his daughter, Victoria, who had recently passed away. After later losing his beloved wife, Schiller committed suicide, whereupon the hotel was acquired by a bank and renamed "The Emory Inn". In 1985, the "Emory Inn" was purchased by the Best Western Company who later rebranded as a Courtyard by Marriott. All historical features and furnishings have been preserved where possible We hope you enjoy your stay with us here at the Historic Courtyard by Marriott Columbus Downtown!

We stayed at this hotel for a couple nights while traveling to watch the Columbus Blue Jackets hockey game on 3/7-3/9/22. We arrived in the mid afternoon and were able to check in to our room. The hotel receptionist was very friendly, welcoming and professional. The lobby was very clean and modern. The room was very spacious. An extra nice (cool) touch was when the tv was turned on, it had a personalized welcome message to us. On our last day, the tv message thanked us for staying.
Some things to know if staying here: it is an 8 minute walk to the Nationwide Arena. The area is safe and there are officers at the corners directing traffic during hockey games.
There is valet parking only. There is a charge for parking on a daily basis, but you are downtown, so one would expect that.
The staff is very helpful and friendly, so if you need extra towels, you just need to ask. Housekeeping is not on a daily basis, but not a big deal at all.
I would highly recommend this hotel, and also wish to thank our Hotel Receptionist for being so welcoming and pleasant during our stay. Our valet parking attendant was also great, and always had our car ready for us within minutes.

We found this property not measuring up to more recent Marriott stays. The staff was friendly, and the hotel was clean, but it is tired. two big hurtin’s for us; our room air conditioner appeared to be of a window unit from the 80s and just did not meet the demand of the room. Made for an uncomfortable night, but we did not call to the attention of the hotel until check out. We reported it at check out and the desk agent said “sorry about that”! The food and bar was limited and lacked a welcoming vibe- over priced for sure.. in fairness, the rate charged was attractive, and I believe the ownership knows the faults of the property and accommodates through the rate.

We were traveling through with our family on our way home and decided to stop in the area to see the Historic German Village. We chose this property due to it's proximity to the area we wanted to see and the price point for the hotel itself.

The lady that checked us in was very polite and courteous, and the staff that we encountered were all very friendly and helpful.

The room was clean, as well as the lobby, but the lobby has a split level entrance and the lift was not working. The staff offered to help us carry our items up the half flight of stairs, but we were only bringing in smaller items and therefore didn't require any assistance with that.

The nice lady that checked us in recommended a pizza place for dinner and we ended up ordering there, it was AWESOME! Very grateful for the staff being able to offer dinner options that were more than just a chain place.

When checking out the staff was very friendly as well, and we were overall pleased with our experience.

The biggest detractor for me for the hotel was the parking situation. They don't have any on site self parking, and valet is $30 per vehicle. They are available 24/7 to be able to get you to your vehicle anytime, however (and the biggest concern) there is not a secured lot or garage they park in. It's just an open lot down the street. We were traveling with several thousand dollars of hockey gear for one of my daughters and this cause me some anxiety. I would think that for $30 per vehicle there would be some sense of security for the cars while they are in the care of the hotel and it's staff.

Thankfully everything was fine and there were no issues, and I don't know the area well enough to know weather or not my concerns are founded or not, but I will most likely seek other accommodations the next time we are in the area (especially if we are traveling with the gear again).

I would however state, that if you are traveling through with just a couple people or on business, this is a great option. Lower rate for the area then most hotels around, and it's clean with very friendly staff. The only big issue for me was the parking, but that's not going to be a problem for everyone. If I were ever to be in town on business or if it were just myself and my wife, we'd definitely consider this hotel again.

Our visit started off poorly by having to wait for the parking valet. I’m very understanding about staffing shortages today. However they allowed people to abandon their cars at the back of the line and go directly to the valet stand inside, subsequently those vehicles were serviced before those of us that waited in line.

Checking in was pleasant and problem free.

The real problems started when we checked into our room. Our room was located on the first floor near the swimming pool. The chlorine and musty stench in the room was overpowering. We immediately returned to the front desk and asked for a new room. They told us they only had one other room available. We were eventually moved to that room which was very near our original room. It smelled just as bad.

The hotel is aware of the odor problems in these rooms. They have placed air dehumidifier/purifiers in the rooms. The lights on our unit indicated the water bucket was full and the filter needed servicing. So it was likely worsening the problem with a bucket full of old water in the room.

To add insult to injury the hotel sends loud music into the pool area until 11 PM. It was loud enough in our room that we had to turn the TV up very loud to hear the dialogue.

My first advice is not to stay here. If you MUST then demand that you won’t accept a first floor room.

I submitted this "concern" to Marriott and received a response requesting that I create an online account, then re-submit my "concern". After doing so, I received a response from the same agent dismissing my complaint without resolution. We will NOT be back and we will NOT choose Marriott properties in the future.

"We were pleased to find a room within walking distance of Nationwide Arena, where we enjoyed an incredible Bruce Springsteen concert.

BUT, we were VERY disappointed with our stay:
1. The hallway sink outlet didn't work, maintenance advised us they were unable to repair/replace the outlet and left us w/an extension cord to use.
2. The commode tank didn't fill properly and was consistently running.
3. The water pooled in the shower.
4. The fitness center was torn apart with floor fans running loudly to disperse an odor of mildew and the equipment was shoved into a corner, so I couldn't enjoy my AM workout.

When we checked out, I explained my concerns to the front desk clerk and asked if he would consider covering our $35 valet fee as compensation. He advised he wasn't empowered to assist me, took down my contact information and assured me the Hotel Assistant Manager would call me directly. But, I haven't heard from him.

Our experience was completely unsatisfactory and I respectfully request at least a partial refund as compensation. [Note: We are not regular travelers, so we aren't interested in Marriott points.] I look forward to hearing back from you within 24-48 hours. Thank you for your time and consideration."

The conditions of this hotel are so poor that they should not be allowed to operate. I booked for more than 300$/night but when I arrived I actually just walked out and will dispute my charge based on the conditions. Do not book here - better off sleeping in your car or park bench that’s how unsafe, unclean this place is. Garbage all over the lobby, staff was totally non-existent, the manager rudely told me to walk but they were charging me anyway. I’ll be disputing any charges - no one should be forced to stay here.

Room costs $99.00 a night. I booked 2 nights. It came to $232, including tax. I get to the hotel and they tell me that there's an additional charge of $50 /night for tax/fees, plus $38/night to park car there. Got a voucher for a free coffee at their restaurant but it didn't even open up the last day we were there. The bar wasn't open at all. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hyatt Regency right down the road.

The hotel door was getting painted when I arrived there so it was kind of hard to find to be honest… But once I got in the lobby was bright and clean, hotel staff greeted me immediately. The check-in process took a little longer because they just got new (paper-feeling) door keys. Once they got a few to work the gave me a room on the third floor with a great view. Location couldn’t be better! Multiple bars within walking distance, I didn’t feel unsafe at all and it was close to nationwide, so a great place to stay if you’re going to a concert!

We have stayed at this Courtyard location previously when attending events at Nationwide Arena. It is a short safe walk, which makes it great to avoid the traffic after the show. Yes, this is in a converted building downtown and has some unique features, such as a short stairway in our room. Our room was clean and in great condition with everything working in it just fine. The check in and check out process was easy and convenient and the gentleman working the front desk on Friday afternoon/night was outstanding. No issues with the valet parking as the attendants had our car ready on Saturday morning at the time we needed it. Only compliant was in regards to the Bistro in the lower level. They served Starbuck's coffee, however they offered no alternative creamers. As someone with a diary allergy, that is something I look forward to at Marriott locations. Overall, we would stay at this location again and sorry to see that others have had some issues.

The customer service was outstanding! Judith went and made a whole new carafe of hot chocolate for us; Jose made two trips up to our room to bring us extra towels and pillows and brought a few extra items for our stay; and Amy, the manager on duty when we stayed, was exceptionally helpful, informative and friendly. I was so pleased I gave Amy a hug upon our departure! The hot tub was on point. The only thing I wish is that the dining area was serving food during our stay. We thought it would be, which is one of the reasons I selected this hotel; but it wasn't open for food service Thursday night.....so we had to go out for dinner.
