Nestled near Ohio State University, The Blackwell Inn garners accolades from guests for its stellar location and cleanliness, with an atmosphere enriched by festive, Buckeye-themed decor that contributes to its exceptional ambiance. While the staff's professionalism and friendliness are often highlighted, a few guests have encountered service hiccups.
Though the rooms are commended for their comfort and modernity, reports of noise and occasional dissatisfaction with room conditions surface. Despite the convenience and overall cleanliness, some travelers question the value, pointing to additional fees and limited amenities.

Detailed Reviews
Of course this wasn’t an OSU football game weekend! The Blackwell is the closest to the OSU Ohio Stadium so I imagine football weekends would be a lot noisier.
It’s a beautiful place. One of the I Prefer Hotels. This means it has exceptional standards. The staff is wonderful. Attentive and helpful. They have a shuttle that can drop you off or pick you up within 3 miles, which covers most of the OSU campus. Unfortunately it stops running at 11 pm on a Saturday. If it ran until midnight we’d have used it to come back from our We Banjo 3 concert (GREAT show!) at the Newport (Ughhh…).
The room was large. Interesting art. Excellent quality TV. Very comfortable bed. As I said we didn’t hear a thing from other rooms, heating units, roof fans, etc all night. We did hear flushes and water running from other rooms in the morning but it wasn’t excessive. I wasn’t thrilled with the shower. The shower head was a bit short for me and the water pressure left a lot to be desired. I understand the desire to be a “green” hotel. We’ve got 3 Prius’s and recycle. But I want a good strong, hot shower in the morning!
Turn down service with chocolates and other goodies left for us. Da wife really liked the fluffy robes!
I think this was our 3rd stay at the Blackwell. Once was for a Rolling Stones concert at the ‘Shoe. We love the place. Highly recommended!

First time staying at The Blackwell. Great location and actually on the Ohio State campus. Room was fine, but no mini-bar. Web sites says mini fridge but I don't remember seeing a fridge. Good check in. Great bed. Free WiFi. Very clean. Quiet. I don't remember seeing a room safe. Work desk. Bathroom ok with a tub with a shower. Good TV. No resort fee. Parking is nearby but separate from the hotel, mine was $25 per night at the Lane Avenue parking garage. Lounge closed due to Covid. Close to Ohio Stadium, about a 5 minute walk. Wexner Medical Center is about a 12 minute walk. Not in a chain of hotels so I did not get hotel points, but member of Preferred Hotels and Resorts. Not a 5 Star, but more like a 4 or 4.5 Star.

I stayed at the Blackwell in April/May 2020. The room was very clean. The amenities in my room included tv, phone, iron/board, toiletries, coffee maker and refrigerator. The bed and pillows was comfortable. I appreciated that I could control the thermostat and fan in the room and the windows opened to let in fresh air on the nice days. Most only criticism is that I could hear my neighbors above and to the sides of me. Room service was efficient and the food I ordered from the restaurant was delicious.

+1
The location was amazing, but how dirty and unhygienic this place was, especially during these times, was quite shocking. There was the same french fry on one of the two elevators for about three days. You could tell that the hallways on each floor are not vacuumed every day, much less every week. The same dirt was in the same spot the entire six nights that I stayed. The hard wood floor of the hotel room was sticky and slippery. I used one of their white wash clothes to wipe down the entire floor. Afterwards, the entire washcloth was brown. clearly they have not mopped the hotel room floors in a very long time. Around the refrigerator, there were someone else's fingerprint marks. Also on the door handles and door locks. And other places in the room. They made a claim of disinfecting the rooms, but clearly they are not actually cleaning them. No one came to check on whether I needed additional coffee or trash cans emptied in my six nights. The unprofessional valet service is $25 for one night. One banana at the Grab and Go breakfast was $2! Yet at Whole Foods down the street, a bunch of organic bananas was 69 cents. Price gouging healthy food during these times is quite unethical. Additionally, how loud the rooms are is quite frustrating. For whatever reason, I was put in a room that had an adjoining room door. I could hear the neighbors's phone dinging and clicking next door all of the time. Every time someone's door slammed close on the hallway, I could hear it. I could hear the neighbor's TV. It was very loud and made for an uncomfortable stay. Along with how dirty it was, I would never stay here again.

Thank you for choosing The Blackwell on your recent visit. We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you again the next time you are in Columbus. I had a chance to review the survey that you recently completed. I was concerned to hear about your experience with our hotel. We strive to accommodate all of our guests and their needs, and I was disappointed to hear about the problems you encountered. I know that does not change your experience but I hope that you can feel confident that we heard your concern and are definitely doing something about it. I apologize again for the problems, and thank you for taking the time to let me know about it. Without your guest feedback we cannot continue to improve our services. We look forward to your return to the area.

I Do not recommend staying here unless you are planning on staying the night before game or can arrive more than 4 hours before start of game. The streets are closed down and you will not have access to the hotel, by car. The hotel is rather pricey and it would seem that a pass could be given to guests as a convenience to them. This hotel is beautiful and rooms are great, but I would not stay here again unless I was able to come the night before the game.

The reason for my stay was my sons wedding. The staff did an excellent job making sure that the wedding was just as the bride and groom requested.
The rooms was clean and beds was comfortable. Once in the room we could hear no noise from outside of the room. I will definitely be staying again and will also recommend to my friends.

Consistently an excellent hotel with nice rooms and friendly staff. Very happy with our recent two-night stay. Campus location is convenient for most everything in Columbus without the hassle of being downtown. That said, there is no free parking (same as downtown), since any real estate on OSU campus is expensive. We parked at the garage that is right next door, and the price is reasonable on weekends. It would be nice if the Blackwell could work out a fixed price deal with the parking garage for its guests instead of strongly suggesting that we use their valet. I don't care to deal with valet service (or pay for it) - I just want to walk to my car.

Being able to stay on-site for a work conference was ideal. I had a king room that was very spacious with comfortable bed, reclining chair, and rollout desk. Good amenities. Temperature control in the room worked great and the shower had good water pressure/temperature. However, I was in the first room on the floor near the elevators and it was noisy. Sound-proofing overall seemed to be lacking, as I was also easily disturbed by regular noises in the hallway and room next door. Perhaps a room in a different location may have been better.

We had a wonderful stay at the Blackwell on a Home-football-game Saturday. Check-in is different on game days because players stay there until game time. They will store your luggage for you and give you full access to it until after the game when you can have access to your room. We were skeptical, but it all worked out wonderfully.

We booked the executive suite with adjoining king room for a wedding weekend to allow for ample space as a babysitter took take of our child in the room. It was spacious, offered a microwave and fridge, and truly made our weekend less stressful. The staff and accommodations were great.
