Our third holiday in Longyearbyen and as usual we stayed at Spitsbergen Funken Hotel. This cosy and historic hotel is situated between the towncenter and Nybyen (and the Longyearbreen glacier) and offers a superb view of the harbour, mountains and glaciers. Everything is easily reached from this hotel. The breakfast buffet is the very best, the rooms are very good,...

It's a nice hotel. Be aware that it is outside the main downtown area. So plan on a nice 15 minute walk to the heart of downtown, uphill on the way home. (Cabs are about 80 NOK from the Radisson Blu if you're at the furthest end of town and don't want to hike back up because you're tired or...

On a Hill but walking distance to city centre, this is most historical hotel in town. 4 stars? Maybe, considering deep "pole north" location. I particularly appreciated common areas, very take a beer or drink a coffee overlooking from Windows and relaxing on sofas. Rooms are quite small but with great view, with flat tv and full bathrooms, only a...

Lovely hotel. Room was lovely. Staff we're helpful when we asked where a place was and even booked us a taxi to the airport. Loved the little areas you could go and sit with free tea and coffee (highly appropriated due to a long wait for our flight). There was a handy area where you could store your suitcases as...

Stayed both before and after an Arctic cruise. Hotel warm and staff very welcoming. First night we were in a back room overlooking the hill. Room fine, comfortable bed, good shower. All in all fine. Second night we were in a front room and surprised by lack of blackout curtains, particularly as these rooms faced the midnight sun. As the...

The hotel is in Longyearbyen and so most of you would like to know the place a swell as the hotel. LYB is like a small mining town with prefabricated housing and offices. Things generally are not luxurious but friendly and competent and restaurants are in a bistro/ gastropub style. Norway is expensive so judging value for money is difficult....

A rather normal hotel. It got what you need. It starts to get a bit worn. The breakfast was good and the dinner as well. One positive thing was the waffles you could make yourself in the afternoon. Longyearbyen is a very small town but anyway the hotel is situated at the rim of the city.

It is confusing with names of all the hotels in Longyearbyen. Spitsbergen Hotel is also known as Scandic or old local name "Funken". It is located a bit away from the heart of town, up a hill and one might think the view will be great... well, not for us. We had a "splendid" view towards a transformator and a...

We spent one night here. The hotel is on a hill and about a 5-10 minute walk into the shops in town. It is more rustic than the Svalbard Hotel but very comfortable. The lounge rooms were a welcome hang out for people catching up online after limited contact with the outside world during Arctic cruises. Hint: A laundry service...

We stayed one night at the Spitsbergen Hotel as part of a package, so we did not choose it ourselves. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk uphill from the city center in a quiet part of Longyearbyen. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The diningroom has beautiful views over the fjord and the city center, the lobby and...
