Avoid at any cost We booked for Saturday 18th Sep (one night) and paid £95 (place usually costs 50ish for weekdays) Check in time is 3pm, we arrived at 4:30pm, and we were told that there is flooding in the room so we had to be moved to another room. The gentleman at the reception told us that the room would be ready in 10 mins and the manager is cleaning it. We waited and waited, asked if the room is ready 3 times and each time we were told it will be ready in 5 mins. Finally after 1 hour and 10 mins of waiting the room was ready and we were given the keys. The room was located on the ground floor, next to reception. Nothing special about the room except for some weird smells, mouldy bathroom, and cleaning materials lying on the floor. The bed was two single beds turned into a double and there was a gap between two beds. There was a large A4 rule book on the table, which contained information such as “what to do and what not to do”. It included information such as £20 fine for taking towel to the beach etc. It also mentioned that rooms will be fully inspected before checking out (photo included on trustpilot). We hoped that the misery was over and carried on saying “it is what it is”. We went out had some fun and returned at 10pm. We went to sleep at 10:30pm, and we were awaken up by loud screaming and shouting of lots of people at 11:15ish. Initially we thought it was from the bar across the road (the place is next to beach and it can get really noisy even in normal times). But after trying to sleep, again and again and not being able to sleep, I left the room to see if some fighting is going on outside. I then realised that the noise was coming from the hotel’s bar itself. There were 8-9 people screaming and shouting with the manager standing and watching them with a dropped grumpy face. I went to her and asked if the noise can be brought down, she said she will shut the reception door. We then tried to go back to sleep, but the noise level was still the same with the reception door being opened and closed every 30 second and the hotel doesn’t have any such noise reduction material, they are just basic home style doors. Being unable to sleep, we had no other option but to leave. We checked if any other hotels available nearby, but it was already midnight and we were not in luck. I then approached the manager and told her we are leaving as we cannot sleep. She had no reaction, no apology, no effort to make it right. I handed the keys back and left at 12:30 am (midnight). I reluctantly had to drink and drive for the first time in my life - thanks to the manager; luckily I only had one drink (legally permitted). We cancelled our plans for the next day and drove back to London. Parking: although the advert mentioned parking is available for a small fee, when we reached there, we were told space is taken already as they only have 2. So we had to park in the nearby public car park, first £6 for 2 hours and then £12 for another day. What a rip off. Attempt to resolution: I don’t usually leave bad reviews as such reviews significantly affect small businesses. Thus, we contacted hotels.com and asked if the manager is willing to make it right by issuing the refund. Hotels.com staff contacted the manager and the manager quoted that she won’t make any refund as she “followed terms and conditions “. This demonstrates that the business simply doesn’t care about service rather focuses on the money aspect only. Perhaps the bar was making her money so she didn’t care about us as we already paid. Once in a while, things can go terribly wrong, and we customers understand that. But the question is do businesses hold themselves accountable and take actions to make things right, in this case, they unfortunately didn’t. As an aware customer, it now becomes my responsibility to make potential customers aware of the risks involved with trading with this place. Hope me sharing my experience helps you to make better decisions.

My partner and I only stayed for one night in this hotel and we had a wonderful time. Our room was lovely and clean with a sea view. The bed was extremely comfortable and we both slept well. The excellent Clacton Pier is less than a minutes walk from the hotel, so access to the beach and fun was easily attained. This did mean, however that with the windows open at night it was a little bit noisy outside. I mention this, not as a complaint as it did not bother us, but some people may want to take it into consideration. Lastly, the staff working at the hotel were all friendly, helpful and easy to talk to. We had a wonderful one night stop at The Pier Hotel and if we come through this way again we wouldn’t hesitate to book here again. Top marks!

I wasn’t that impressed when I pulled up outside before check in, same with check in but first impressions of the room were quite impressive. However, despite making the room look nice and comfortable, it’s all style over substance. The shower had very little power, bathroom taps move when you turn them and the heating didn’t work in the bedroom. The tv was in an a strange position because a mirror with a picture either side occupied the obvious place to have it. The hotel is in a good location, but not somewhere I’d stay again. Poor choice.

Wonderful stay here for a one night get away. Great location, easy to find. Recently renovated to high standards. Very kind, well presented, friendly, helpful staff. Well stocked bar with lovely atmosphere. Comfy seating area. Room was beautiful, and spotlessly clean. Sun loungers kept under the bed for the sun terrace to the room when the weathers nice. Room was quiet and cozy. Breakfast was served in the hotels restaurant. Staff very attentive and polite. We had a Turkish breakfast and a traditional English breakfast. Both were fantastic. I would recommend this hotel. Michelle the owner is a great host.
