There is no dining / breakfast service. No room tidy. To get to the car park is a 1/2 km drive. The noise around the location at night is dreadful. Public partying in surrounding streets to all hours, trash and sick left behind, cars doing 'wheelies' in car park. 3rd rate lodgings... not a hotel! Unbelievable

A fairly basic hotel, but with all that you need. The bed was comfortable, and the room large enough. The bathroom had all that was needed. We have stayed before, and at weekends there is quite often noise from ourside from those drinking at local pubs. That aside, we had a good stay.

Currently sitting in our room after my wife went down to complain about the nights events after we've had about an hours sleep at best. The door that the receptionist thinks is a "one off" is still banging away every 10 /15 minutes reverberating up the whole fire escape and waking you up. There was also a lady downstairs on the telephone loudspeaker talking to someone for well over an hour at around 2am and finally quietened down after being asked for a second time to be quiet only for the bloody door to start banging away again. We've stayed in many town centre hotels in Europe and Morocco but this has to be the worst by far. In fact it made Marrakesh seem quite peaceful

Response from Lynn Farnsworth, Owner at The Star & Garter
Responded 30 Jul 2021
Dear Tony, My sincere apologies for the banging door. We eventually tracked it down in the courtyard of the opposite building. The night porter did address the young lady outside three times on the third with the option to keep the noise down or leave the Hotel with a response of going to bed. I know that there is nothing worse than not being able to sleep due to noise and I hope that your reimbursement made some ways to compensate. The problem door has now been rectified. Thank you for staying with us, I am sorry that it was not a more pleasant one for you. Kind regards Lynn Manager

We have stayed here before, however, this visit was unplanned. I booked while travelling down to Andover. The hotel is clean and welcoming. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly, both on the phone and when we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble for them because I had a few requests because of our emergency visit. Our room was on the front of the hotel, which over looks the pedestrian area of the town centre. The room was very clean and spaceous. The bed was lovely and comfortable. The hotel is in a little town with lots of lovely lakes nearby. I can recommend this hotel and will more than likely be booking again in the future.

Sleep Quality
Room Tip: There are some lovely rooms on the back of the hotel, which may be quieter than those on the front.

Need thermostatic mixers in the bathrooms as it is a challenge getting the water temperature right and then finding that when to divert to the shower head the pressure has changed and you are either scalded or frozen to death. Cobwebs in the rooms around the windows, poor fitting curtains, limited storage in the bathroom for toiletries. I have stayed several times and in different rooms and it would take a lot to make this hotel much better and worth the room rate. I think they are lucky there is not a lot of competition.
