My husband and I had a really enjoyable stay here at the end of May. Beautiful location-the surrounding areas are so pretty and peaceful. The staff were welcoming and relaxed, and the lady who served the breakfasts in the morning was really lovely, not to mention the breakfast itself! Would definitely recommend.

This pub gets top marks from me as the staff are so helpful and friendly. Beers and wines are good. Food is good though some of the mains could have been larger. Rooms are good though slightly on the small size but it is a 17th Century Coach House with heaps of character. Local church is worth a visit and it is handy to Highclere Castle and Bombay Saphire Gin distillery

Stayed here for two nights while we visited Highclare Castle (Downton Abbey). Very friendly staff and clean room. We were in room 5 which had a King size bed and ensuite with large bath and shower. The room is double glazed which helps prevent the road noise. We ate in the pub and had great freshly prepared food and a good pint of real ale. Breakfast was included which was excellent. We would stay again if in that area.

The George and Dragon is an excellent Pub B&B. The welcome was professional and courteous. Rooms very clean, comfortable and of a high stand, nothing fancy, it is an old Pub after all, current owners have done an excellent job. The pub is very traditional (no fake beams) and pours a cracking pint of Guinness. It serves Gastro Pub food, without the pretentious of the typical Gastro Pub. Not a massive menu, but well thought out and makes the most of local produce and suppliers. Quality of the food is excellent well cooked, seasoned and presented. Breakfast also good and served a bit of a rarity, a proper poached egg. The staff are very efficient, pleasant and professional; without going over the top. I stayed on business and so didn’t have a choice (booking agents and all that); but if staying in area again I would demand that they book the George & Dragon. Once again excellent.

Had a lovely overnight stay again! We find the George and Dragon convenient for trips further down south. The rooms are compact but perfectly comfortable with everything you need and breakfast is always very good. We have had a few good meals in the restaurant now as well and on this trip we were running late so phoned to warn the staff who offered to take our food order over the phone so it could be practically ready for when we arrived! An excellent idea which was gladly taken up and true to their promise we were served an excellent meal within minutes of being seated. Hope to be back again next time we need to be in the area.
