After reading recent reviews on here we were a bit dubious about staying here for three days and not expecting much. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Yes, there are bits that are on the tatty side, mainly the carpets, but on the whole it's homely and cosy. Our room was a good size, the bed huge and very comfortable. The...

Been sat waiting for our lunch to arrive for over an hour! When I enquired at the bar I was told that the kitchen didn't know we'd finished our starters!! Well we have had several waiters, walk past our empty plates so I don't know why. And that was all after being told they'd run out of numerous things one...

We stayed here for one night. The room was very very basic and tired at the back of the hotel. The hotel is in desperate need of a refurb as a lot of other people have mentioned. Whilst it is in a great location and the food is good (we had the cooked breakfast which wasn't the best cooked breakfast...

Popped in for lunch today. It was a late lunch around 3.30 but they serve food all day which some of the other pubs/restaurants in the area don't do. The hotel is located in the middle of the hi Street and looks very nice from outside. The inside is however tired. We ordered the steak and ale pie which was...

The hotel definitely needs a refurb! It needs friendly staff managing this place. Food was ok ,but took ages to come to the table. It is better to eat out at another pub or go to Winchester (15 min drive) to get some decent grub! Breakfast was nothing special (disappointing) . Took ages to order and when it arrived tasted...

A very tired and dirty hotel that given its location on the face of it promised much more. The hotel staff were multi tasking and busy, but polite and pleasant. However the tables in the bar area needed more than just a wipe over, 2 out of 3 ales were off and i witnessed food being sent back to the...

The hotel is 250 years old and probably has not been decorated since. Holes in the stairs carpet are a hazard, the decor is old and tired and it was not clean. At breakfast I could not be seated because the tables had not been cleared. There was food on the floor from evening meal the night before and the...

The best fish and chips in the world! There are many highly rated restaurants which cannot hold a candle to this hostelry for the perfect triple dipped potato. After two perfect experiences we can't wait to go and see if this perfect attention to detail is. replicated throughout their menus.

Stayed 2 nights - very central position and lots of parking spaces. The hotel is crying out for a major refurbishment but here & now if you want low cost b& b and will spend your time exploring Winchester & surrounding area then this could be for you.

We had a very good night's sleep in our comfortable room in the annexe at the back of the hotel. The room was at a very reasonably priced. Our bar snack in the evening was very tasty, there were a wide range of choices for breakfast and all the staff who we met were extremely helpful. Whilst the hotel could...
