We have been a few times for a drink, the annoying thing in the bar is they throw bottles into the empties bin, which becomes really irritating after a while. Crashing bottles, the pitch of them landing in the bin, is not conducive to having a relaxing drink. It is the equivalent to having a bin lorry in the room....

Thank you for your comments, which we do take on board. We can sort bottle noise, and perhaps , please request a plate , which we will be more than happy to serve your next meal on, as we realise that not everyone prefers our style pf presentation. We are very keen to listen to customer feedback , and thank...

Ate here as a family (plus dog) midweek and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The staff are lovely too and help create a very welcoming atmosphere. Would happily return on our next visit to the area.

Visited this pub twice during our 3 night stay in Alnwick. Central location and popular with both locals and visitors. Great choice of beers, reasonable prices and friendly staff. The food looked great although we did not eat here.

We stayed here on march 18th our wedding day. The staff were fantastic we were presented with a lovely bouquet of flowers&a card. As you enter it says arrive as strangers leave as friends and that is certainly true. Once again thank you &your staff for making our day special

We stayed here over 2 nights, having booked for a very reasonable price through expedia. On arrival we were told that, as the hotel had no other guests (it was a watery winter weekend!!), we had been moved to Room 6, a lovely en-suite room at the very top of the hotel! This was really very kind and unexpected, showing...

Popped in for a pint, decent bar, clean tidy and a nice place to spend some time in. Has some accommodation attached which from the posters looked fine so worth considering if staying at Alnwick. Would certainly visit again.

we live locally and this is one of our favourite places for eating out. The decor is lovely, the staff are friendly and efficient, and the food is absolutely beautiful! I would recommend the sticky toffee pudding which is home made and sourced locally, and the sticky ginger pudding is even better if that is possible! So save some space!

From the outside looks like an ordinary pub but it has a gorgeous back dining area with lovely decor and lighting and a great menu with a superb selection of meals. Not standard pub grub. Loved it. Slow roast belly pork and mash with fresh chives.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Market Tavern was taken over, refurbished and reopened in March 2016. A family friendly run pub restaurant and lodge with a smart, fun atmosphere serving a wide variety of lagers, real ales, spirits and soft drinks. A tremendous wine list accompanies the eclectic food offering. Great food in the bar and Steakhouse. Live bands play some Friday evenings, and it's very popular with the locals and visitors to the area. We are located in the centre of town and a two minute walk to the castle and gardens. The Steakhouse has opened to rave reviews, serving amazing Northumbrian steaks, and local dishes. ... more   less
