This fantastic B&B has a lovely family welcoming feel to it. From the moment you book everything is organised and ran really well. The room (twin) was spotlessly clean, we had everything we needed from shower caps to a shoe shine cloth. The beds were very comfortable with clean crisp bedding. The room was spacious and was at the right...

Couple of weeks ago I found these two gems. Despite being only yards from the A1 it was almost totally quiet. We were made welcome by Gaye with tea and coffee and a slice of a Victoria sponge that was still hot from the oven. She couldn’t do enough for us. In the evening we tried the Cook and Barber...

For a business trip in the area I found Birchwood House and was swayed by the very positive reviews to book myself in for the night. It is just off the A1 and halfway between my business calls in Morpeth and Alnwick. To get to Birchwood House you drive down a private lane to the house and its private car...

I stayed here about 4-6 weeks ago, and then again tonight. The room is a different one to last time, and just as fantastic! This place is new, modern, clean, stylish and very comfortable. I travel all over the UK and stay in all types of hotels and accommodation, but it really doesn't get any better than this. It's 10...

Stayed here while visiting the Alnwick Garden. Our second visit and not disappointed. We had room 3 again and it is a beautifully furnished room and spacious. Gaye welcomes you on arrival with tea and homemade cake. Brilliant. Breakfast, well what can you say. Never seen such a selection of cereals, fresh fruit, yogurts, bread, pancakes, teas and coffee. The...

This is our 'must come back' second home whenever we spend time either passing by or taking a break in Northumberland! No praise is high enough to reflect your level of comfort or the efforts that are made to make it so. Lovely accommodation, special host and a beautiful area to visit - what more could one wish for?

Stayed for one night on a business trip on the way up to Scotland and I cannot fault my stay in any way. Gaye is a fantastic host and could not do enough for us. The rooms are furnished to an exceptionally high standard and the breakfast was restaurant standard. There is a really nice pub about a mile away...

I have no suggestions to make that would improve this hotel. The location, room, host, breakfast and amenities were all fabulous. We have stayed in many hotels, a number of which are 'high end', and they come nowhere near to the comfort and relaxation afforded by our stay here. When driving home, my husband and I felt like we'd been...

The Birchwood House is conveniently located near the A1 between Morpeth and Alnwick, and is lovely. Grass covered banks surround the building to absorb A1 traffic noise; the guest rooms are in any case on the other side of the building from the A1. The bed was comfy. The room was tastefully decorated. There was a homely guests lounge with...
