Less than a 2 mile level walk from the front door of the B&B to the car park ar Cadair Idris. The walk is picturesque, along a lake, and a small section on a B road. You can book in for a set 4 course evening meal and alcohol is served. The food is good, especially the salmon and prawn...

We really enjoyed our stay! The hosts were very welcoming and gave some good tips as to activities and walks. The rooms were nice and warm and the view of the lake was beautiful. The meals were delicious, especially the dinners and we were allowed to have not all of the courses for a cheaper price which was very convenient....

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday here and it was a pleasure to welcome you both into our home. Thanks also for posting two images of The Old Rectory on the lake taken from across the water - the autumnal colours are just wonderful at the moment but very soon, after a few gales, the leaves will...

A hidden secret. Beautiful location. Very friendly team. The home cooked restaurant standard evening meal and breakfast was so delicious with plenty of choice. Lovely rooms with beautiful view over the lake. Plenty to do in the area from walking, climbing, steam trains, beaches and castles. Our second stay at the Old Rectory and looking forward to finding the excuse...

We spent 3 wonderful days at this incredible B&B. The accommodation is top notch, beds are so comfortable, bathrooms with everything you need including claw foot bathtubs! Views from your bedroom are amazing. The hosts are terrific and so willing to help you learn about the area and places to explore. While the breakfasts are superb, the added bonus here...

We enjoyed two lovely nights, so much so that we wanted to stay a third night! Unfortunately the B&B was booked up for the third night, no surprise when you experience such a great stay. The food was delicious, the rooms beautiful, and the location is just perfect. Very friendly hosts, with great advice on walks in the area.

We chose The Old Rectory as a starting point for our week in Snowdonia - and as accommodation close to the Dolgellau parkrun. What a fantastic find! You were our first guests to specifically stay here so you could attend the Parkrun in Dolgellau which now takes place every Saturday morning and we are so pleased you enjoyed the whole experience. I would love to regularly take part too but sadly breakfast duty keeps me away and so far I have only managed to run in one....

I booked this as a surprise for my partners birthday in July and the stay was outstanding. The room was spacious and well decorated with a four poster bed and huge bath tub. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory on the lake has been overlooking Tal-y-llyn, in south Snowdonia for over a hundred years. This imposing residence stands on the foothills of Cader Idris and offers five star luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation in a stunning setting. It is the ideal base for the discerning visitor to explore this particularly quiet and unspoilt scenic area of Wales. We are equidistant between the bustling market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau and the delightful coastal village of Aberdyfi. The Old Rectory on the lake has three double letting rooms - all ensuite - and all look out onto the lake. Our bathrooms upstairs were described as being 'outstanding contemporary ensuites' by the Visit Wales inspector when awarding us five stars.Already our culinary reputation is beginning to spread - indeed we have even been mentioned by name in The House of Commons during a debate on Welsh produce. Our chef can cater for any dietary requirement. The Old Rectory on the lake is licensed. We suggest that this is the ultimate place to unwind; the scenery is breath taking and the silence deafening. All our beds have crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and freshly laundered fluffy towels are in every bathroom and also in the sauna and out outdoor hot tub area which - like most of our windows - looks out over the ever changing Talyllyn - enthusiastically penned in our entry in Alistair Sawday's Special Places to Stay book as ' large, lovely and luminous'.We look forward to perhaps welcoming you here very soon. ... more   less
