Country farm b and b, set in the beautiful Churnet valley, 10 minutes walk to Alton Towers, bbq and firepits, caters for families and groups. Great location for country walks, mountain biking, bouldering and stargazing. Very relaxing venue. All rooms are en-suite and there is a sitting room with open fire and a garden room for take away meals and breakfast js served every morning.
Stayed at the chained oak last week for 2 nights as we was visiting scarefest at alton towers. Liz is absolutely lovely a fantastic host. The location is unbelievable in regards to Alton Towers its literally across the field. Liz kindly let us walk through her field and you was literally at the entrance. Your really can not get any closer and it saved us money on parking at the park (we normally pay for the premium parking) We had a double bed room which was really lovely in a little barn conversion. Had everything we needed comfy bed and nice and toasty with October getting chilly. Liz was kind enough to provide takeway menus from local takeaways and was able to eat in our rooms on a evening. Breakfast was fantastic. Full cooked breakfast fresh. Help yourself toast, yoghurts, cereal and hot and cold drinks. All served in a beautiful conservatory overlooking the beautiful view. Very friendly and cute dogs who loved a fuss. We enjoyed the stay that much we have already booked for next year! This will be our go to b&b for alton towers from now on! …

We have attended the Alton Towers Scarefest for the last 5 years. After riding 'Hex' last year we decided to head in to Alton village to check out the chained oak tree. Whilst there we stumbled across the Chained Oak Bed and Breakfast. Having stayed at Uttoxeter Premier Inn in previous years, we decided to give this a try - and we were so pleased that we did! Great communication throughout the booking process, questions answered and we secured the cabin. This was a lovely room located on the outskirts of the grounds. All required facilities were there - tea making, TV, shower, hairdryer. There was also access to our own firepit and an outside seated area - where a log burner was also present. Warm robes and blankets were supplied for the outdoor seated area which was a lovely touch. Breakfast was OUTSTANDING - cereals, fruit, juices, toast, tea and coffee, plus a freshly cooked veggie breakfast. We can't rave about this place enough. It is a hidden gem. We have already booked up for October 2024. There is also a really quick walking route into Alton Towers which saved on parking. We also discovered a lovely pub in the village which provided a great sunday carvery (veggie option also available).…

I booked this B&B for me and my sister to stay in for our trip to Alton Towers and it is an absolutely stunning place. The rooms are absolutely spotless with brilliant views of the woodland, and the beds are some of the comfiest I’ve slept in. Liz was incredibly helpful in providing directions to Alton Towers (which is an easy 10 minute walk away) and to the village of Alton. We arrived quite early in the morning so the people in the room before us had just checked out, but Liz was very accommodating and let us leave our luggage in the room while it was cleaned so we could head off to the theme park and come back to a clean room later. Breakfast was brilliant as well, with lovely cooked options as well as a wide variety of cereal. The dining room was another great addition to the B&B as after a long day of walking around Alton Towers we opted for a take-away (Liz provided plenty of local menus) and sat inside to enjoy the views. I have to also give a big thanks to Steve who very kindly dropped us into the neighbouring town of Denstone for us to get our bus back to the airport to save us getting a taxi. Another example of the hosts going above and beyond for their guests. 100% would recommend!…

This was the perfect place to stay when we were attending a family wedding close by. As soon as we arrived we knew it was going to a good stay. We had a warm welcome from Bev, who was holding the Fort while Liz was away. The family room was just right for us. The breakfast room provided everything we needed and not just breakfast. We were able to find everything we needed to order and eat a takeaway, umbrellas that we could borrow and information about the local areas. Although we'd had a long drive we couldn't wait to explore. We walked along a nearby footpath and continued into the wood. We would have loved to do the full circular walk, but it was getting late. We agreed that we would have to book again just to complete our walk. The room was very comfortable and spotless. Beautifully decorated. We met Liz on our final day and again had a warm welcome. Cooked breakfasts were delicious, but there was plenty of choice if you don't want anything cooked. I'm so glad we stayed here and intend to return at some point in the future. …

I’ve been going to Alton Towers for years and would pass this B&B every time wondering what it would be like to stay there. I eventually booked it and was not disappointed. It is a lovely place with peaceful views and nice walk through the woods to the view Chained Oak. We stayed in the Cabin and would definitely try to stay there again if possible. The Cabin is separate from the main block with its own decking where you can sit out whatever the weather. It was warm and cozy. The bed was comfortable. It’s a smaller room but it did us fine. Breakfast was great. They provide a full english but also have other options like cereal and yoghurts. The hosts were super friendly. Cost wise I would say it’s definitely worth the value. In the past I would usually pay for a Premier Inn in Utoxeter or Derby because it was cheaper. However at the Chained Oak B&B you get a much nicer room, nicer view, it’s so much closer to the theme park and breakfast is included. This was my first time using a B&B ever and I cannot fault this place.…

The Chained Oak was by far the best place we have stayed in on our two weeks trip to England and Scotland this Summer. We have stayed in the family unit which was spacious, well decorated and very clean. Excelent breakfast, the best we have had on our trip! Communication with Liz, the owner, was pleasant before and during our stay. The place is amazing! our three teenagers were excited about the place even before they knew about our planned visit to Alto Towers. There is a nice pond and trampoline and planty of nice space to hang out. Another bonus is the ability to walk to Alton Towers through a field which was a fun experience.

Having used previously due to its proximity to Alton Towers, this time due to our cirmsutances we stayed here as a couple for a weekend getaway. As nice a B&B as you could wish to stay in. Very friendly, very relaxed, very clean and very scenic. Lovely breakfast included. No toiletries provided but this should not detract in an way.

I found this little gem of a place while browsing somewhere to stay close to Alton towers, well you can’t get any closer!! It’s a 2 min drive or a 15 min walk we drove as it was raining otherwise we would of walked, on our arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome by liz ,she explained everything and told us the route to walk to Alton towers across a sheep field and over the fence, our room wasn’t quite ready so we went and had a look At the chained oak tree, on our Return our room was ready we ordered a takeaway and had that in the garden room and took in the gorgeous views, next day we were up early and had a lovely cooked breakfast, had this on both mornings, it is a gorgeous place to stay very friendly and attentive host, we would stay again Most definitely, very nice place just shame the weather wasn’t good.…

Rustic and Beautiful setting 5 mins from Alton Towers. We stayed in the cabin and it was so peaceful and amazing. You can wake up to geese, ducks, squirrels and sheep within yards of the cabin. Takeaways and restaurants in a ten minute drive radius from the premises and the owners are very nice and chatty. Will definitely be back here :)

We stayed here for a short weekend break to meet up with family to go to Alton Towers. I had stumbled across the Chained Oak Bed and Breakfast whilst searching for places to stay on Air BnB. The pictures on the site definitely do not do this place justice. We stayed in the cabin which was beautiful. It had everything you needed for a short stay and a wonderful veranda/decking area which provided a lovely place to sit and enjoy the warm evenings after a day at the park/travelling whilst watching the sun set over the Churnet Valley. The Chained Oak B&B is only a short 10 minute walk from the main entrance for Alton Towers - I’d go as far to say that it’s closer to the entrance than the main Alton Towers car park. Elizabeth the host was superb - really friendly and accommodating and the breakfasts in the morning are delicious. Would definitely recommend and would 100% stay again.…
